Violet was so scared and insecure he tried a cheap shot and failed. He played really good in the first 2 matches abusing stephano with mutas since he knew steph never goes for mutas or hidras but that 3rd match 10pool was patethic. Deciding to throw in some cheese in a BoX and use a fast attack on a map with a short rush distance and 2 spawn locations is patethic? Especially when Stephano played super-greedy? Why? Do I need to paint you how that game turned out because of his failed cheese?
Do I need to paint you how most games turn out when cheese fails?
That doesn't mean it was an inherently stupid, insecure, or scared decision. He took a gamble and it didn't work.

You don't know what cheese is, do you? 10 pool shouldn't win unless the opponent is mega greedy, but if done right it's guaranteed to do enough damage to keep the game equal. Nestea 10 pools in z v z on a regular basis against anyone he knows plays greedy.

Like I said Meggiroth thinks cheese is anything that breaks the mold of just macroing undisturbed for 20 minutes.

The nice thing about this is that I like literally every single remaining player. Not sure what's gonna happen, but anyone out of Stephano, SaSe, Squirtle and PartinG winning would be perfect for me, hoping for a final between two out of those four as well

Violet had a build order win in that game if he'd pulled some drones and built a spine crawler. It's pretty stupid to use poor execution as evidence that a build isn't effective.

Who are playing who in the quarterfinals?

Going by how people said the quarters would look earlier in the thread, my predictions:

That looks like pretty fair predictions to me. I think Stephano will win instead of Parting but he will also beat MC, then the finals will have the same result.

I agree with everything you said. Respect!
EDIT: Lol at so much people voting on Stephano winning. He's obviously gonna place good (he already has), but win? No. That being said, I've been a hardcore Stephano fan ever since before Assembly Summer, his breakthrough tournament.

With the way the game has evolved lately, Protoss will take this tournament no sweat. No Zerg or Terran can compete with a similarly skilled Toss nowadays. Esp not in a series.

I think Violet will beat Squirtle and then lose to Taeja who will advance to play Stephano on the finals.
But whatever happens i don't really care.I just hope for good games and non PvP finals.

Parting and Squirlte are probably the best two protosses in the world. If any of them doesnt win it should be considered an upset. Voted for Squirtle altho im cheering for SaSe ofc.

Squirtle's zvp is on another level from the MC's and Parting's of the world . . . . although I'm not quite sure what happened against Ret.

hmm... Squirtle's just on a whole another level. I'm willing to bet 10 bucks on his success.

Considering PvZ is Stephano strongest matchup, he has a good chance to take this, however the fact he will play mostly protosses in the bracket can backfire. He may win the first match, but the next protoss will have the opportunity to study his play during said match and prepare himself - although I guess most of them already studied Stephano ZvP a lot already -, and you can repeat that if he wins the second.
That said, I wouldn't bet on any player, basically each of them is able to take it home, with the possible exception of Sase & Taeja.

So stephano has to win against Parting MC and Squirtle to take this... I dont think there is any z capable of doing that.

I agree that it wasn't a good decision although I disagree that 10 pool is that rare. The risk with 10 pool is that if your opponent goes 14-14 or 15 pool, 15 hatch (which Stephano did in MLG against) and your opponent has OK micro, you're way behind. Because he's going to hold off the early pressure with minimal losses.
Violet's decision in this game was bad for a couple reasons: 1. He knows Stephano rarely goes early pools (8-10) but does mix in a fair amount of pool first builds. As stated above, against a pool first build, you're in trouble if you go 10 pool. 2. Stephano's unit control for Zerg is pretty much as good as it gets, which makes it silly to get into any early game micro wars with him. Unless he's been drinking, you're unlikely to get the better of him. (On Ohana, Stephano took out 6 or so banelings with just lings and then forced the cancel. That was one of the best micro displays for Zerg i've ever seen.)
That said, Violet killed 5 drones with his opening and was able to hold the drone lead for basically the entire game. Stephano simply outplayed him in the mid-game. Violet kept going mutas because he was successful at MLG. Prior to MLG I believe Stephano was 5-2 against Violet. If they're both on their game, Stephano should win.
