Awsome to put forth such a prizepool, however the competition seems abit thin. MVP should have this using only their worst players:S

I will be watching tho, always nice to see some players that you dont see otherwise, GL to the event hope it turns out to be a success!

The occasion for MVP B-teamers to shine. Kind of sad to bring so much money not to have a competition worth to watch.

MVP has this unless they get really over confident. The real battle will be for second third and forth. I wonder how iG will stack up against the fairly weak competition (other than mvp).

Considering Sen has a 22 game win streak in the tw league, it is pretty much up to him in terms of the Taiwan teams. He definitely has a chance vs MVP players but I think maybe only 1-2. iG might take a couple games as well. But the full MVP line is so strong. And since the winner gets $20,000, they will likely send their best players.

Damn, that's a huge prize pool. Even GSTL doesn't have that much. Hopefully this also brings exposure to this teams as well

hey, cool, just noted that each team plays each other twice - proleague and all-kill style.
but prize pool is 40k not 50?

From the linked article, prize pool is$40 k which is slightly less than GSTL but a huge pool none the less.

Also, looks like Taiwan is smart putting sen's team in group b so they have better chance to get to finals.

I'm not sure how the encounters will be played. This news mentions two qualifiers, each one with a different format. Does it mean that the group stage won't be merely a round robin?

I think it is 2 round robins. One with the pro league ace match format and one winners format.

I feel like you guys underestimated TeSL players...
Yes, MVP is most likely going to win, but I really don't think iG is going to have easy 2nd place... Taiwan-Blue looks pretty strong to be honest, Sen is still an awesome player and I've watched SpiderDS playing against him and he was doing not bad at all either... Didn't watch a lot of Hui's stream but he seems to constantly get around 3000viewers when he streams, so I guess he isn't bad either

It's a team with DongRaeGu and Genius in it. Plus the people they train with.

Chris, I know what you mean but come on here, we go up against MVP we're lucky if we win half a game. Same applies to any of the other teams here, unless they know something I don't.

Xeria is a definite contender for 3rd place and very long odds for 2nd.

I don't think that is possible since MVP and iG are in the same group. If iG finishes second, they can only play in the 3rd place match.

Ok, so its $20,000 for 1st place team, $10,000 for 2nd, $4000 for 3rd, and $6000 for the remaining teams? By the way, the prize pool is $40,000 not $50,000 like the topic says. It doesn't really say how the last $6000 will be allocated, but thats what I assume...

The format will be proleague style with 4 games then ace match for the first round and winners league for the second round (this is king of fight style right?). Then, 1st place from each group plays at the live final at the Taiwan Open conference, and the 3rd place match will be casted online I think.

The first qualifier will be best of five: 4 games of 1v1 and 1 Ace game (player repeatable), and the second qualifier will be a 4v4 King of fight. After the 2 qualifiers, the 1st place of each group will compete for the final, and the 2nd place of each group will also compete for the runner-up match. The runner-up match will be hosted online in July, and the final match will be hosted in Taiwan at the Taiwan Open conference. The top 2 teams in Asia will be on the stage, bringing you some awesome Starcraft II games!

Kind of undewhelming lineup for such a prize pool.

But I bet MVP is pretty excited about this.

Apologies, you are correct it is $40,000. The last 6k is allocated as 2k for 4th, and 1k for 5th-8th. Part of the prize pool for 1st and 2nd is an expenses paid trip to Taiwan for the finals (Which for 10 players + 2 Managers would be quite a significant amount anyway.)

Yes MVP are favorites, but iG are quite good and relatively unknown (I am personally curious as to how they will stack up), and the Taiwan Teams are fairly stacked as well.

The teams are from Asian countries only, which is basically KR walk-over. Yes, China has been improving, but every country including TW is miles behind KR.

JazBas - the only person who makes a dent from Blizzcon 2011 for AU
XiGua - at least GSL code a
MacSed - at least GSL code a
Sen - at least GSL code a

Good job for the hosting country to take the advantage of having 2 teams in.

EDIT: just wanna note this isnt a stab at incontrol, its just to make people aware the other teams arent the push overs the masses assume them to be

Sorry, but incontrol =/= MVP's best players and im pretty sure even incontrol would agree with me. DRG could all kill everyone in the tournament in a row.

It's great that tournaments in Asia feature teams from various countries, and not only korean team, but seriously 50k $ for a tournament with such little top players seems like a huge waste of money. Makes it quite a ridiculous event IMO.

This is good pocket money for MVP though.

Looking forward to this, should give some up-and-comers a few chances to go toe-to-toe with MVP & some of taiwans best.

Hoping for some upsets along the way ^_^

You will have your chance to cheer them on tonight as they take on Japan!

Just a reminder that tonight we will have iG vs Singapore/Malaysia as well as Taiwan Blue vs Japan. I was sent the match ups last night (I will not reveal them as it will spoil results) and there looks to be some very good games!

And yes, MVP can only use Keen, SC, Noblesse, Genius and DRG, so if you are a MVP fan, you will see their best lineup each week. Schedule and team rosters are all accessible on the ASiT website (in the OP), teams can only use players listed there.

MVP busting out the all stars line-up of Keen, SC, Noblesse, Genius, and DRG to secure their win in this tournament. Too bad for the other teams.

What disappoints me a bit about this league, though, is that it's not an all-kill format and the limited number of games :| With $50,000 on the line, make teams work for it. Have them play an all-kill Bo9 Bo3.

Weeks 4-6 will be all kill format.

Having bo9 with bo3 is not a suitable format for the TeSL who are shown on Taiwan TV and must fit in their schedule. the current format allows for 6-10 maps per night, which fits well with their time slot, and does not have too much variance. Bo9/Bo3 means 10-27 maps per night, which makes filling the timeslot very difficult and random (Some nights you have 10 maps and are over in 2 hours, but if you go the full 27, you're staying around for a long time).

Australia is being represented by Benji's own Xeria Gaming - so they'll be using their own team line up. That means no mOOnGLaDe, PiG, etc. Would have been nice to see an 'all-star' line up like some of the other countries are using though

Ah, it's a TeSL gig, okay, but I still think Bo3s are better. With Bo1s a lot of players are just cheesing.

You're forgetting the home turf advantage Taiwan has in this league. iG is in the same group as MVP, while Taiwan Blue is in a group with Australia, Thailand, and Japan... Only the top team advances from each group - and iG is not going to advance over MVP -> its going to be a Taiwan vs. Korea offline grand finals unless a major upset happens.

Benji casts the matches in English and broadcasts them on his Twitch.tv channel. TeSL casters commentate in Chinese on their Justin.tv channel, and you can also find VODs (not really organized, just whole recordings) in the videos section of their channel.

So how are the MVP games going? Are the other teams even putting up a good fight?

Looks like MVP added Monster to their roster (making it DRG, Genius, Keen, sC, Noblesse, Monster). I'm not sure if any of the other teams changed. Some teams have 5 players, some 6, judging by the website.

tw Taiwan Blue has added (P)TtApolloHRU since their original roster listing because of potential time conflicts for (Z)GamaniaSen/(P)XpecIMHui to make the matches in the future (foreign events).

The limit for each team is six players.

Updated the main post with results from last week, Vod locations and matchups for this week! Thanks again to PeterDLai for making my job a ton easier :D

Going to be an interesting week 3, with each group guaranteed to get a clear leader going into the second half of the season. MVP, iG, xG and TW Blue are all 2-0 in their groups, who will stumble first?

Matchups this week are:

Wednesday 9th May at 20:00 KST

MVP vs iG
MiTH vs Japan

Thursday 10th May at 20:00 KST

Taiwan White vs Singapore/Malaysia
Xeria Gaming vs Taiwan Blue

Can iG take out MVP? Will MVP continue to be undefeated in maps? Will the shaky, yet favorites Taiwan Blue take out Xeria Gaming despite xG 3-0'ing Japan last week after Japan forced the Taiwan team to the Ace in week 1?

Remember, this is the final week of the Pro-league format, Weeks 4-6 will be All-kill format.

All of those Korean players are famous!
Keen is a top 3 player on a top 3 Korean team, former Code S player and just trashed NesTea 2-0 in Code A.
sC is also a former Code S player and also a scary terran.
Noblesse is a strong terran who just easily won the recent EWM tournament.

DRG's teammates won too fast, he doesn't need to show up. However, Wulong (GM on TW/KR server) did ok against the Koreans.

Cough Cough, Keen of MVP defeated MMA to reach code S, please pay more attention to players other than DRG.

Interesting how MVP came to be picked. If I had to think of a team that best reps Korea, it would be Slayers. They're the only team that wears the Korean flag on their uniforms.

As a proud Thai person living in Britain I feel very sad to see my country getting beaten up so badly also I've noticed that MVP loves using their terrans in this league.

either way, xeria to beat taiwan tonight to take first in group B!!

There's a 3rd/4th place match between the #2 teams in each group and a 1st/2nd place match (Taiwan Open Final) between the #1 teams in each group.

Prizemoney:
1st: $20,000 USD
2nd: $10,000 USD
3rd: $4,000 USD

MVP with 21 - 3 record, pretty damn good. The league went exactly the way everyone predicted it to, not that the predictions were hard.

They are playing on the 2nd day so have plenty of time since Taiwan to Korea flight is only a few hours
