I understand that you need someway to break a tie when players who have won the same number of matches. However why do you need to play a third game to do this? If you just did a 'game difference' then this would value winning 2-0 over winning 2-1 over losing 1-2 over losing 0-2. Which makes sense to me. Presumably instead they are doing a 'games won' as the first tie breaker (if not then how many games you play would make no difference) with 'games lost' as a second - but this means that there is no difference between winning 2-0 or 2-1 and it values winning the third 'dead rubber' game equally to the original two. The 'game difference' after real best of threes seems to better value these games. Edit to say: that even if they are doing a 'game difference' I think having the third game included makes things worse as the second of my reasons (the equal valuation of game three when the match is already decided) still applies. Thoughts? | ||
