i'm a habitual lurker and my primary usage of TeamLiquid is looking at the "Recommended Games" subsection of your threads, which helps me to prevent watching terrible cheese games and terrible play. props for all the work you do on this forum!
i just wanted to make a suggestion -- as it currently stands, the Recommended Games subsection is misused by the majority of the forum and is not as useful as it could potentially be. i would recommend either:
A. removing the "If you have time" option. i love that you create a poll for every game regardless of the length of the series, but people are primarily using this option for games which do not exist, which spoils the results.
B. expanding the options -- most people would rate games as either Excellent, Great, Good, Fair, or Avoid -- or something of that nature. or you could just do a star system, 1-5 stars.
option B wouldn't help to relieve spoilers because people would probably vote randomly, but it would provide more useful information about how good the games are. option A would alleviate spoilers and provide basically the same information as does the current system.
considering teamliquid is spoiling games on their front page now, i don't know much anyone gives a shit about that anymore!! but yeah, i think either of the above options with be an improvement over the current system that is in place.
to the future!!
Poll: What do you think?Go with Idea B (143) 83% Go with Idea A (16) 9% Stick to the original 3 (11) 6% Other (specfiy) (2) 1% 172 total votes Your vote: What do you think? (Vote): Go with Idea A (Vote): Go with Idea B (Vote): Stick to the original 3 (Vote): Other (specfiy)
In the original format, sometimes people voted yes for entertainment value, not quality of game. If we went with idea B, the entertaining games might get a mediocre rating, and may be skipped. Perhaps we should have a separate poll for quality of game and entertainment value, but that may appear to be spam.

Wouldn't a 5star game be an entertaining game? Isn't entertainment the whole point of the recommendation system?
|
Idea B is the exact same thing as Yes/No/If you have time, but just making it more messy. Just looking at the ratios you can interpret whether it is worth your time to watch the vods or not.
Anyway hope any of the 3 between Genius/Nanny/Supernova go through.. virus is boring

NaNiwa and Virus will advance, calling it. I don't know who will come out 2-0 and who 2-1.
I like all the players in this group. I hope Virus and SuperNoVa show good games. Virus is owning face lately and in the TL preview he's still considered "meh"...I don't think he is. I think he's the real deal, next generation boss-mode Terran.
After my 8/8 correct predictions yesterday, hopefully I won't completely bungle this one ^_^

rooting for oGsSuperNova to post some good results
|
Anyone not picking Genius to win the group is delusional, the other 3 is a toss up though.
I'll go with Genius/NaNiWa to advance from group A.
|
Definitely have to go with Genius...
I'm currently a big antifan of virus... Hard to call which will advanced between Nani and Supernova..
Hoping for Genius and Nani to advance :D
|
Go go Genius/Supernova, should be some great games tho!!

It seems ppl are generally leaning more towards option B. While I have considered every aspect and every opinion, I guess the most logical thing to say here would be this:
Regardless of whether or not I change the system we will mostly have biased reviews. Because most ppl pick whether or not they would recommend the game not because of entertainment value but because the player they like either won or lost. IMO, yes, no, and if you have time works most of the time, but does have its flaws. What constitutes a yes? a no? a if you have time? The answers are very interpretative, so a star system could be better. So, if we were to get a star system going, I think we should consider it like this:
1 star - the game was boring. Nothing inspirational whatsoever. This is where the "no" option would apply here 2 stars - the game was okay to watch, but you felt like you wasted your time. Again, the "no" option applies here 3 stars - the game was okay to watch and you would recommend it to ppl who had the time, thus the "If you have time" option would apply here 4 stars - the game was exciting and you saw a lot of good actions here and there 5 stars - the game was either truly inspirational or it was super exciting with action going on frequently, or it was both a and b
What do you guys think?

yes 5 star system plz. it was done in the past for other bw and sc2 LR threads and i preferred it to the current 3 choice option.
these starz :D ★☆★☆★☆
i.e. ★★★★★, ★★★★☆, ★★★☆☆, ★★☆☆☆, ★☆☆☆☆, (☆☆☆☆☆ for 0 if you want, i guess)
on 2nd thought I prefer 0-4 stars instead of 1-5 stars, because some games are so trash that they dont even deserve one of these pretty stars :D

Genius and Virus advance.
Supernova will not trick me once again by looking amazing in the Ro32 before somehow returning to all-in TvP after showing some great games in the first round. Also Virus is starting to remind me of Polt in the Super Tournament and it scares me how far he can go.

I think it's fantastic that we have a foreign that can win over anyone. Like...anyone.
It all depends on Naniwas mood that day.
Gogo NANI!!!

I think whether or not SuperNoVa advances is dependent on NaNiwa vs Genius.
If Genius were to win, then Virus could probably beat NaNiwa and would allow SuperNoVa to play a TvT game and advance. While if Genius falls down, then I think it'll end up with NaNiwa/Genius advancing.
