That was the best GSL season by far, probably had to do with the format change as well.

Yep and I´m really glad I paid for it. Great damn season and Hot6 also is a great sponsor. They really bettered on every front.

nope

only major championship in sc2 right now is the gsl

the lineup as mlg seems like it could be gsl worthy though, but yeah, MKP still has to win his GSL.

To leave the line of kong, you have to overcome the competition that put you there to begin with.

Why did he say that?

Probably lack of motivation combined with possiblity of Protoss nerf/being figured out.

Rofl, you just pulled that one out of your ass hard core.
He needs to join the army soon.

He's only 20 ... Will it really be soon o_o

MLG is considered a major championship and as long as you have one major championship you're no longer really a kong. On top of that MKP took out DRG who is snow a GSL champion which further legitimizes his championship IMO

Winter Arena = not a korean starleague

SC2 =|= BW

Winter Arena is a big enough event to disqualify MKP from the Kong Line, IMO.

There just aren't any Kongs in SC2 any more.

One does not simply "leave" the Kong line. Once you join you are forever solidified as a Kong. That applies to Fantasy, Jangbi, Stork and for SC2 MKP. MKP is the only player to make it to multiple (3) GSL finals and not win one.

And no, Winter Arena does not count when half the representation aren't even Korean players.

It's actually only 2 unless you count Code A. And if we count Code A then Puzzle is a GSL champion...

This isn't BW, the exact same rules don't apply. SC2 has a big international scene with tournaments like MLG and DH whose fields are just as stacked and difficult to get through as a GSL. While the Winter Arena doesn't break MKP out of the kong line since it was a closed event and a bit of a preliminary, winning the championship in Columbus certainly would.

Wow you do not know what kong means.

1) This was not a regular MLG. Do you consider Arena of Legends to be GSL? Cause MKP already won that too.

2) Beating a champion in a special event doesn't make it a major championship.

MKP definitely still the King of Kongs.

Your points are terribly flawed. You're right, this wasn't a normal MLG, in fact the field was much stronger than any other MLG outside of maybe Providence. Sure some of the European's and American's made the field slightly weaker but it was still by far the most stacked tournament outside of Korea.

MKP is still a Kong, but only because you need more than a single championship to get out of the kong line (even Yellow agrees with that).

That's exactly what they should be doing.

I'm not sure where to start. Do you watch traditionnal sports?

Oh boy. Continue, please. If you have a point to make, make it - but lose that condescending tone asap.

But if you prefer, I'll clarify - Do I really think they need to make every single little thing sound "the best ever"? No, but I definitely expect them to hype it up, regardless of the reality. I wouldn't expect anything less, and I doubt GOM wouldn't either.

Edit - Or hell - they really could have even believed that it was one of the best finals ever as they were caught up in the moment or genuinely felt that way.

Look at it this way, Genius totally outplays DRG in first 3 games, yeah I know he lost game 2, it was a joke build tbh.
Loses game 4, gets BMed by DRG in the booth. Makes mistakes in game 5, gets BMed again. Genius makes more mistakes than ever. The rest is history.

Mind games victory goes to DRG, and you can hear in Genius' speech what he thinks about that. Maybe building carriers is a bit BM but doesn't warrant mid game booth BMing. Considering how tight rules are ingame about chatting only reserved to pp and gg. In between game unspoken rules were broken by DRG imo. Going into another player's booth during a finals no less should not be considered acceptable. The gap at the top is so small and anything can affect you at the highest level. It really takes the shine of DRG's victory and first GSL. Now I look at him in a different light.

Felt really bad about that. Lost a lot of respect for DRG.

You could see how Genius was shaken by that

Lol. You seriously are going to use this as excuse Genius lost?
And not that DRG played better?

Not really an excuse for the loss, but rather disappointed that DRG somehow took this over the top, disrespected his friend quite a bit in my opinion. A thumbs down in his own booth is something else than going into someone elses and dragging his arms up.

Genius had the hardest run to the GSL finals ever.
He 2-0 DRG, 2-0 SC, took out Nestea and MKP then 3-0'd MC and Alive. It's funny how people are saying he sucks now. ^.^

Also Genius and DRG are now 4-4 vs each other.

Yeah, such a great run. I don't think this was the best finals, but the quality of games this season overall was better than any previous.

I don't know. To me, any tournament with <50k usd prize money is considered a small event to me. Thats how we know which are the tournaments that really matter like the GSLs or MLG providence.

You're not alone. I loved it. A lot of the games came down to perfect timings from either player. The only thing I really disliked about the finals was Crossfire. I wish they'd stop using that map.

Anyway, DRG! Yes!

GSL WC's are counted as an official GSL by Gom.

World Championship is considered by GOM to be an official GSL event, unlike AoL and KoK. That makes three for MKP.
