It's pretty clear to me that Genius and MC (among other protoss) have always been very good players. It was only a year ago that Genius and MC did very well in many tournaments, if you remember. It's not just a random coicidence that we have 4 protoss in GSL Round of 8 after the numerous balance patches targeting the Protoss race. I think the patches have ended up working quite well for the Koreans. It's just taken some time for the players to work through the changes. I really don't understand where people get off actually believing that MC and or Genius are not, or have not always been (for their professional careers) world-class players. Regarding Genius, no. For quite a while he was just plain mediocre. 3gate + VR all-ins in PvT and more all-ins in PvZ. It's only really this season that he suddenly had a "Eureka" moment and obliterated everyone.

i can't believe this all past GSL champions ARE OUT...it's a whole new ball game in 2012 I think that the top 16-20 players are so close in their play that it really depends on match up and their condition on that day. Remember we also had Jjakji/Oz/Leenock/MVP in Nov and then Jjakji/Leenock finals... I think it just shows us how consistant players like MMA, MVP and Nestea were... If you saw the MLG Arena KR Qualifiers where is was basically a Code A + Code S tournament (except MC, Leenock, DRG, MVP). Only Parting got to top 8 from people who made top 8 this GSL. What I am trying to say is that if you replay this GSL, you can end up with 4 different semi-finalists. DRG and GuMiho were 1 game away from losing in Ro32. And Alive, Parting and Genius all got beaten in at least 1 series.
