Excellent move by Naniwa. If he's uncomfortable playing in lag, it's a superior choice to forfeit rather than play. If he loses all his games his reputation is harmed much more than picking up his keyboard and mouse and leaving. In fact, the latter increases his popularity and defines his personality.

Good choice.

It's Blizzard and IEM's fault. Blizzard for being greedy asshats that won't give us LAN, and IEM for forcing them to play under these conditions. But Naniwa should have tried his best regardless for his team and his sponsors who presumably paid for his travel and stuff.

I respect Naniwa for making this decision. I wish more players would get together and make a fist against the ridiculous situation that is BNet 0.2 without LAN support for tournaments. Think about it, how much trouble has already been caused by the constant lag issues whenever there is even a slight peak of activity in a concentrated region of BNet? A Lot, too much.

The delays affect the mental state and focus of players, cause huge delays and problems for the tournaments and more. Then there is the constant issue with Blizzard having to whitelist events and not doing a good job at that. That some players stay meek and pretend to be blind to the issues at hand doesn't mean it's all fine and dandy.

I have been a Blizzard fan my whole life, but it's getting out of hand with the obvious degradation of their online and offline service and support. This combined with a much larger professional gaming scene makes for one bad formula. I do hope that Blizzard is working on a solution for these constant issues, and I fully agree with the decision of Naniwa.
Balance. Enjoy the process instead of focusing on musts.

Lag doesn't affect everyone in the same way. Players that prefer a more passive macro style will arguably be less affected by lag then players that rely heavily on micro.

For example, Goody would, due to his playstyle, not be as affected by lag than a player like MKP. You can still put a ton of tanks in good positions relatively easily with lag, but marine-splitting against speed-banes on creep becomes a whole different matter with lag.
