So...I got banned because I expressed my dislike towards current SC2 LR threads look, and my fondness of BW LR threads design and look. I admit, the post was formulated in a extremely trollish way, and I deserved my ban.
But I still stand by the fact that SC2 LR threads are miles behind BW ones. And yes, I understand that BW is less frequent so people have time to set up all those fancy threads. I really appreciate Seeker's and all of the others efforts and contribution to LR SC2 games, but I feel that the the LR threads just keep growing with useless text, bad formating, bad design and so on, which just doesn't look good, at least to me, and makes it a bit less exciting to open the new GSL LR thread for the first time.
So I've set up this thread to show a proposal of how LR might look like. Some of you might hate it, but that's not the point. The point is to encourage people with some Photoshop skills and willingness to enhance SC2 LR threads that Seeker and Co keep so delightfully updated with results and LRs to help them out.
The thread is clean, pleasing to the eye, and all the neccessary info is easily seen, which I think is not the case with the current SC2 LR threads.
Unfortunately, I work in mornings when GSL is on, so I won't be able to update this thread. I will leave to Seeker and others to see if any of this is good and whether they should change their approach to design of LR threads. After they set up a new LR thread for this group, this one can be locked/deleted.
And if anything, I have now realised how quickly working with spoilers and TLPD links turns into a nightmare. I have some experience with Photoshop, so even though I can't LR, I might be willing to help with designing some of the banners, if needed. So... why is this better than the usual Seeker LR thread? I mean... it's fine, the effort is appreciated, but I don't see any benefit at all when compared to the other one. Both serve their purpose , and Seeker's LR is a lot funnier. This LR is also not up to the "BW LR standards" you're supposed to be clinging to. Those are straightforward, but aren't dull like this one.
All in all, effort apreciated, but the truth is that your criticism is based only on personal taste, and as you see here in my post, it's extremely easy to criticise based on personal taste, I can do it too. If you want to make an LR thread, that's cool, but all this banter is pretty pretentious and sounds pretty arrogant, considering it's only a matter of taste. Personally, I like Seeker's LRs more than this, despite it's positive points many have already mentioned.

Nice and clean look, you could even tone down the mirroring effect (not necessarily remove it, just make it more transparent/less 'bold'). very nice top pictures. I have to agree that the LR-threads have sorta given up ease-of-use for a carnival of whatever-goes that I don't enjoy. To each his own though, I appreciate the effort in any case.

Personally prefer a clean LR thread... I think anything which is irrelevant to the LR should either be removed, spoilered or moved to the bottom of the thread. That way people not interested in all the other random stuff can just see what needs to be seen, while others who wanna get hyped or whatever can see it by scrolling down a little bit more. Priority should always be on the LR.
I would say that Seeker's LR's has improved a bit though... I didn't really like it when the whole page would be clogged up with DBZ and other random stuff that it was pretty annoying to have to keep scrolling down to check who was playing next and on what map.

Of course it's his opinion, that's why we have names in this forum instead of rallying under "Anonymous" or something like that. He didn't even tried to "ninja" the thread by making it before seeker, he already asked for this thread to be closed once seeker make his.
That being said, I like this thread, But I also like seeker's. I think a mid-term between this and the other LR threads would be ideal. I guess if seeker added something similar to the Hype part we usually have in BW LRs it would solve a lot of problems.

Both are different but I can see people need to have a nice clean layout, some people like the personality Seeker uses in his threads and probably won't take to this layout too much. I like them both though, as people have been saying they both serve a purpose and they both do it well. Looking forward to more of this kind though.

Nice nice nice (a little more saturation on player pics would be cool)
Vamos YugiOh, you can do this!

GJ OP, well done. Seeker is a cool guy as well, no disrespect to anyone. I like both of your threads.
And more on topic: ZEEEENIOOOOOOOO FIGHTINNNNN
|
Something in the middle would be great. I feel this one is really pleasing to look at, but a bit on the boring side whereas Seeker's thread can be a bit of a mess at times yet they can be pretty fun. How about both you guys work together?

If Zenio wins, you're doing the next LR thread as well.
If he doesn't, get out.
Just kidding, it's a great OP. xD

Each of their own, im happy if theres atleast one good soul to put in time and effort to make such LR thread like this or the other ones.
Thank you

Gonna post my absolute honesty here:
Lately I have been looking at all my threads thinking to myself
"Blah, it's a cluster fuck, I need to pretty this up."
Unfortunately, with my time consumed with Team aiR and college I haven't had the time to tidy things up. I was going to get to it this weekend. I was actually going to re-vamp my whole LR style and make it look neater.
I like this OP. And since you said I can use your format I most definitely will.

Not really a difference, the only big change I see is the 4 portraits. I guess you could call the font-changing a big thing too. MMA for sure.

For BroodWar LR thread with (imo) nice design: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=302311
I personally prefer this thread over seekers as the important part (who won/which games were good) are not as clustered, while at the same time the unimportant parts are cut out
Song list/Casters can of course be added, but nobody needs a picture of Artosis and Tasteless and some LR guys at the top of the thread
|
I would be very surprised if MMA doesn't dominate this group. I think Zenio can do it if he brings his A game.
|
I like this format because of its simplicity and it looks more professional. Seeker threads are fun, but I dream of the day when TL can become as popular as some of the major sports websites. If we ever reach that point, then having clean, simple LR will be important as it lends itself to higher professionalism and legitimacy.
As for the match, I hope MMA and either yugioh or zenio make it out.

Best LR thread I've seen ever for SC2 GSL.

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the effort you put in (same to anyone else who makes LR threads for big events) but it takes me twice as long as it should to find the information I'm looking for when there is information all over the place such as in your recent LRs.

Not gonna lie, I hate the gimmicky bullshit of Seeker's LR threads. No offence to him, but it just seems unprofessional and immature having different themes. Hopefully clean sticks around.
