You get better comparisons in individual sports. Ace cards in tennis is one. You can also compare it to something like olympics where some terrible athletes can compete for one country but would never get the chance if they competed for another.

why do you keep harping on the word sponsors ? The point was to make the game more global and to increase its reach. It will benefit vested interests which includes sponsors so yes sponsors would like the game to be more global, or is that to difficult to understand.
The champions league could easily give more slots to the bigger countries, why dont they ? For the longest time Western conference teams in the NBA were just way better than almost every team in the eastern conference, why split the playoffs ? It hurts competition QQ...
Yes they have methods of qualification but the bottom line is they weaker teams do not compete with stronger nations for some of the gauranteed spots. The european championships is generally considered a more stacked tournament than the World Cup, its still a bigger deal to win the world cup.
