If they just seeded players to garner viewers, players like Yi Jian Lian and Wang Zi Zi wouldn't have been cut. If anything they would be starters considering how big the Chinese market is. If anything considering that the GSL Is the PREMIER league in the world, they should not seed either. I can't wait till kespa takes over and makes their own league thats sustainable enough to function without having to give out free seeds. Except that nobody besides the USA gives a damn about Basketball, whereas football is enjoyed worlwide

They dont have to buy Chinese players because people psychological identify with the team brand. But when you frame things in terms of 'nations' then people actually do go out of their way to include more countries than reason would dictate. That is why crappy Asian or Central American teams sometimes show up at World Cup to pad the statistics of the 1-2 good teams in their group before they run home. The same thing happens in hockey where there is a clear difference between the top 7 teams and another 5 teams they invite to get devastated.

You can also compare it to something like olympics where some terrible athletes can compete for one country but would never get the chance if they competed for another. Golf is another good example. Remember how Michelle Wie got into the Men's PGA through sponsorship thereby denying other players a potential spot? Back then it was all about her being the next Tiger Woods... we all know how that panned out. In the end though the men's PGA got a substantial viewership boost.
