I have seen DRG used Ultras to win the games many times. So, I think the problem is who use it.

The real problem for Sen was that Boxer's economy was allowed to expand freely the whole time. If the Terran takes a third base easily then it gets a lot harder for Zerg, if he gets a fourth then Zerg is basically screwed. Sen fought well, but when the Terran has so much money to churn out unlimited Marines, you're basically playing tower defense with units that trade cost inefficiently.

If you look at the way DRG plays, he's always looking to shutdown bases and not allow easy expansions, forcing Terran to play defensively and not allowing him to max out. If Terran hits 200/200 and has a stable economy, the game is basically over.

I guess Code A seeds are fine, but there is no real reason except wanting foreigners to buy the product to give foreigners free seeds to Code S. If the foreigners had proved that by getting these free seeds in past tournaments that they could hang, it would be one thing, but we've only had three foreigners ever make it to the quarterfinals of Code S, and two of those were at the very beginning of 2011.

Getting knocked out of Code A by a now Code S zerg isn't too bad I guess.. And you're basing your thoughts on Naniwa of what.. 6 months ago? Not the Naniwa 'now' that has proven outside of GSL that his Code S material.

nope. that`s totally not compareable. Ultras have splash to kill larger amounts of low hp units. But it doesn`t work as intended.

I guess from a Zerg point of view, “working as intended” should be something like Ultralisks merrily slaying 5 Marines per hit?

May i ask in what situation you would use them ? Considering there cost i find it hard to say they are worth it in any situation unless your so far ahead it's no matter what you make really.

Btw what we saw when sen went ultra first was just him hanging around with them and not trying to do sth out of it, it's not really telling of how good/bad they are...

it's not just ultra. the underlying problem is that ranged > melee. throw medivacs in that, and those marines just don't die.

Zerg is all about fast melee units, bl's are just a blasphemy to zerg design. Just deal with it and be creative (flanks anyone ?)


obviously you missed all those debates about unit clumping. in SC2, ranged > melee, period. that's why terran race looks (is) so imba, because most terran units are ranged including marines which is their basic unit.

Yeah, indeed. The design intent for ultras definitely didn't work except probably on low skill level. That's different from zergling vs thor where the design of the stats is supposed to favor zerglings. However, after the +armored patch ultras are supposed to work better vs marauders than marines, despite the splash.
