Once a map has been played, it is automatically vetoed from all future games in that match. 10:30pm: Awards Ceremony ![[image loading]](http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b270/FemmexxFatale/HEADERS-03.png) Swiss Rounds into Double-Elimination Playoff - This tournament uses a hybrid tournament style to swiftly separate the best players using Swiss rounds, then close with a dramatic show via double-elimination. Six best-of-three Swiss rounds (see explanation, below) determine seeding of the top eight into a playoff tournament. In this playoffs, rounds are best-of-three until the grand final, which is best-of-five. Explanation of Swiss Rounds - Players enter the tournament with 0 points and are matched randomly. The winning player of each match earns one point. Each round, players with the most similar (or same) point totals are matched against one-another. A player with a perfect record will earn 6 points, while a player with no wins will earn 0 points. See the Wikipedia page for more information. In this Swiss tournament, the match loser earns 0.5 points if he loses 1-2 rather than 0-2. Tournament Tracking Software - We will use an edited version of Challonge!, and will display updated results live on our website. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/oa5LT.png) Each Swiss round begins with a map selected by alternate veto from the map pool. In subsequent games, loser picks. During the Double Elimination Playoffs, the first map of each map is decided by alternate vetoes, with the higher-seeded player vetoing first. The prize pool for this tournament is $7000 in prizes and will take home custom 1st, 2nd and 3rd place TPG Open trophies. 1st: $3000 + 1st Place Trophy 2nd: $2000 + 2nd Place Trophy 3rd: $1000 + 3rd Place Trophy 4th: $800 5th: $ 600 6th: $400 7th: $200 8th: $100 To register, check out the information-packed Midwest Meltdown page on our site. Just to let anyone know who may be interested.
I was at the last one in Aprilish/March? I forget the month but regardless, it was amazing. Not as amazing as an MLG, but seriously it's something anyone who lives AT LEAST within the 5 state area (ND/SD/Iowa/WI/MN) should try to attend. Truly an awesome event.

Are you coming with a collegiate team too or just the open on Sunday? Just saw your form submission.

Just open Sunday this time. I may come to watch the Collegiate stuff though. My school does not have enough players for a team and I didn't know this until it was too late.
Quick question, How do I pay the signup fee?
I am a friend of PsychonautQQ by the way/

I just had a question. The first tpg sc2 open was a bring your own computer event. I'm assuming that this tournament is as well, but I just wanted to make sure as I didn't see that that was clarified in the OP.

All of our events are BYOC + peripherals (mouse, peripherals, keyboard, headset, ethernet cable). Thanks for asking! The OP has been updated with additional items plus more player sign-ups.

Update for everyone training for the Open:
- Terminus SE removed
This change was made due to public pressure from the UMN Starcraft team and the Midwest Meltdown Facebook page. Consensus was that this is a map that tends to produce one sort of game: three base macro. While not as predictable as Calm Before the Storm, Terminus SE has been removed from every major tournament, so we'll take the hint.
- Entombed Valley added
Entombed Valley allows macro games, but the smaller size lets skilled players punish a greedy opponent. More than anything, however, this map has produced varied and exciting games in GSL group play. Another benefit is that this is a ladder map, generally raising the quality of games this tournament will produce.
- Dual Sight removed
After swapping Terminus SE for Entombed Valley, we were left with 8 maps. Even-numbered map pools are problematic since the first player to veto gets an additional (and perhaps most valuable) veto. Both TLPD stats and the stats that recently came out of Playhem paint a grim picture of Dual Sight for competitive PvX. We realized a while back that our pool slants slightly against Protoss players, so we chose to remove this map, as it's the best possible counter-pick against a winning Protoss.
- Version changed to GSL for every map but Tal'Darim Altar
We've followed the removal of gold minerals from GSL play, and have seen no horrible imbalance in the aftermath. We see only good coming from this decision.
For those following along at home, our map pool now looks like this:

Love from Teh Pwn Gaming,
Higara

18/128 are filled with about 3 weeks left for registration.
Many of our sponsors commit to a specific MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) for an event and then later ship us a package based on previous negotiations. Prizes will unfortunately be finalized as we get shipments in from our sponsors but we should receive all of them before the end of registration and will post as soon as we know!
We understand that it's really frustrating for players and this happens for all of our events (Last TPG Open, KOTH, SlumberLAN). We really apologize about being unable to provide a concrete prize pool until about 2 weeks before the date of the event and thank you for all of your continued support throughout the years despite this issue.

Hm, I really wish you guys could fit the individual tournament in on Saturday somehow. Most of the CSL teams coming to compete will be leaving sunday, and thus their players will probably be unable to participate. Have you guys considered this?

Unfortunately no. We would prefer to have only one event running per day so that we ensure the best quality possible for both events. Sorry!
Also, there will be a lot of updates such as casters and concrete prizes and a final list of all of the sponsors announced by next Monday so stay tuned!!

Updates and changes:
1.Location The even has been moved from the Science Teaching and Student Services Building to the NorthStar Ballroom at the Saint Paul Student Center. Why did this change? The building that we had originally booked decided to inflict over $3000 worth of additional fees very last minute that we did not originally agree to pay.
2.Time and Dates The Midwest Meltdown is now only 2 days. Day 1 (Saturday) will still be the Midwest Regional LAN and Day 2 (Sunday) will be the TPG Open. Check-in for Day 1 will begin at 9am, rounds begin at 11am. Day 2 check-in will start at 8am and rounds begin promptly at 9am. Players that are registered for both events will be able to leave their equipment overnight at the event in order to reduce set-up and take-down time.
3. Lodging Lodging has been relocated to the Super 8 Roseville. Cost is $59 per night (available for booking at 5pm on Friday Feb 17th) under "Midwest Meltdown". This location is where all of the CSL teams will be staying from Friday-Sunday!
4.Sponsors List of sponsors has been added to the end of the OP to give everyone an idea of what prizes to expect!
5.TPG Open Number of seats have been reduced to 64 due to the change in location and power limitations! Currently 27/64 seats are taken with 1 week left of registration. Fill out your application ASAP because they're sure to be gone by the end of the week!
More updates coming soon!

The worst part is, this is literally the only tournament with significant prizes that I have a decent chance of doing well in, speaking as a high Masters player.

Bad News: Prize announcement delayed once again. Good News: The delay was because two additional sponsors signed on Friday afternoon. The prize pool has now been increased to Over $9000 for the entire weekend. Announcements will be made super soon pinky swear!! We and all of our sponsors promise the prizes will be worth the wait.

The whole UCincinnati CSL team and also Case Western are driving out so maybe try contacting the coordinators? I'm sure they'd be more than happy to pick you up if you're on the way.

6 Reasons to be Excited for Midwest Meltdown 1. The Unkillable Man
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/hPs3q.png) Why You Should Care - Lidquipedia Page - goswser dazzled at MLG Orlando, placing 29th after smashing GSL champion Polt. We're ecstatic to have him in our TPG Open player pool.
2. The Number One Grandmaster
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/xwUNT.png) Why You Should Care - Unbelievable Ladder Record - Rarely caught outside of the NA top-ten, puCK achieved #1 on the NA ladder Friday, February 24th. As a fellow Minnesota resident, I'm proud to call him one of our own.
3. The Terran Hope
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ux2Ic.png) Why You Should Care - Everize rounds out the GMs in attendance. His accomplishments, while more subdued than those of puCK and goswser, are many. They include 2nd in US Craft Cup #30 and 2nd in Go4SC2 ESL #52. [Note: While Everize reached 11th GM in Season 5, he was not placed into NA Grandmaster in Season 6]
4. The Local Hero
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/d4b7U.png) Why You Should Care - In the Twin Cities, MGredground wins everything. Undefeated in the CSL, MGredground is our little taste of pro gaming, and spearheads our incredible CSL season.
5. The Dark Horse
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/ISo1h.png) Why You Should Care - You might remember a while back when Liquid.Tyler said on State of the Game that he was a player who could rise to the top with minimal practice. Ssok takes this to an absurd degree. Veterans of Minneapolis Starcraft recall Ssok at the 2011 TPG Open, chatting up top-seeded player Nozick. Setting a friendly mood, Ssok coaxed out of Nozick his most feared PvP build (3 gate blink stalkers). Later in the finals, Ssok crushed Nozick three times, using that very build. Whether smarter or more devious than the rest, Ssok continues to steal TPG events on minimal practice.
6. The Prize Pool
As Prisma posted above, the prize pool has only gotten sweeter. NOS, Antec, CoolerMaster, and MLG stepped up in a huge way to inject life (by which I mean scads of great loot) into midwest eSports. Check this out:
Hope to see you there, Higara

Unfortunately the electricians are coming into the venue to install additional power to the room all day and then our staff will be setting up the for the rest of the night. Sorry, we can't accomodate any players in the venue at all today!

May I ask what you are referring to in terms of player coverage? Also, we already have casters confirmed and scheduled for the event, so we can't offer you any time to cast. Feel free to email me at broadcasting @ tehpwngaming.com if you would like to discuss this further, NERDcraft.

Hi guys, I've been planning on attending this event as a CSL representative, as a last-minute stand-in for Duran and/or Mona who weren't able to make it. I'll basically be there to assist with the CSL regional qualifier section of the LAN, so I will be at your service for whatever I can help with. I've tried emailing various addresses in the past week, but I haven't heard back, though I have to take some of the blame for crappy communication T_T
Seeing that the LAN is, well, today, I thought it might be a good idea to post here, which I probably should've done a while ago... I'd originally planned on getting in late last night, but unfortunately my flight got delayed to this morning due to snow in Milwaukee. Still, I plan on being there for the vast majority of today, so someone shoot me a PM and let me know what's up, or I'll just find someone in charge and make myself available.
(Also, this was supposed to have been posted last night; I don't understand why it didn't get posted)

A pair of $300 Bose Noise Cancelling headphones are currently missing. I paid $300 out of pocket for the pair to be shipped to UMN to be used for players who were being broadcasted. If you accidentally walked off of them or know about their whereabouts, please let the admins Evva or Peter Zhang know ASAP. We need to ship them to the Princeton event which is later this week.
I'm not looking to start a witch hunt - even if you tried to steal them. We just need them returned.
