+ Show Spoiler [PLAYER LIST FOR NASL SEMI OPEN] + + Show Spoiler [Players 1-4] + Millenium Stephano
He is arguably the best Zerg in Europe, qualifying for IPL 3 and making it to the Top 8. He also was a 3rd place finisher at Assembly Summer this past year. Despite the Millenium-coL controversy, Stephano has not been deterred and will be moving to Korea to train full time. He is hungry to prove himself in the NASL!
FnaticMSI ToD
Recent champion of the Samsung European Championship, ToD made his name internationally with a strong MLG Anaheim performance, beating Slayers Alicia twice. In addition, he won WCG France and will be representing his country at the Grand Finals in December. ToD is also moving to Korea and will be training with the best players in the world as he attempts to reclaim his legendary status attained in WC3.
EG Machine
Machine came into the spotlight with a 6th place finish at the MLG National Championship in 2010, and has been a regular in pool play at this year's MLG's. Despite a quiet year, Machine made some headway at the EG house, where his training has helped him reach a very high level. He made it to the Championship bracket at IPL, showing that his skill is getting back into form.
coL CatZ
As the claim on SotG goes, CatZ is quietly becoming a formidable opponent. He proved it this past IPL, making it tho the championship bracket of the highly competitive event. Despite the fact that he doesn't have major wins under his belt, he represents Latin America as one of the best, along with MajOr, Fenix, and KiLLeR. He looks to reclaim a NASL spot and show that he is not just a personality, but a top player.
+ Show Spoiler [PLAYERS 5-8] + Dignitas Tandongho
A Korean Zerg player living in the UK for University, Tandongho has performed well in clan leagues for his team, winning a majority of his EGMC and GCPL games. Tandongho will definitely be one of the heavy hitters in this tournament.
MajOr
After winning the Blizzcon Latin America qualifier, he proved that he is the best Latin player in the world, taking down Dignitas' KiLLeR in the finals. MajOr has been in Korea for a month now, training in the TSL house, so his skill undoubtedly has increased since then. MajOr will be fighting to prove his many doubters wrong.
GoSu Gatored
After getting within one game of qualifying for the NASL through the Open tournament last season, Gatored has made a splash in the community over the past several months, qualifying for WCG USA (the tournament that never was....) and IEM NY. Gatored plays a standard brand of Protoss, safe and steady.
coL Minigun
Several months ago, Minigun was the hottest rising player in the US scene while he was on ROOT gaming. While he has left the spotlight, the fact that he is one of the better Protoss players, if not the best, in the United States speaks for itself... Minigun came close to qualifying for the NASL last season, and now will have another shot to get on the world's biggest stage.
+ Show Spoiler [SET 3] + Dignitas KiLLeR
Heralded as one of the top Latin American players in the world, KiLLeR recently took 3rd place at IEM New York, and finished 2nd at Blizzcon Latin American Invitational. He has been part of Dignitas for the better part of a year and has been lurking in the shadows, until very recently. KiLLeR won the NASL Qualifier to make it here to the semi open -- he will be representing Chile in the NASL Semi Open and give it his best shot.
Fnatic Pogiro
One of the more unknown players in the tournament, Pogiro is part of the Fnatic Korean Academy team, a Zerg player formerly of the ProS clan. He took 2nd place in the NASL Qualifier tournament, losing to KiLLeR in the final. He has yet to have any significant tournament results under his belt, but is working hard to show what he's made of.
Quantic Zelniq
Here is an American Zerg player who has been a part of the scene since the beta stages of the game. He has been a regular at MLG events, getting far in the open bracket multiple times. Although he has few significant victories, he was most famous for knocking IdrA out of IEM Qualifiers in 2010 -- his style of Zerg is very macro oriented.
RoX.KiS LiveZerg
LiveZerg is a former Brood War player who has switched to Starcraft 2 and plays for the team RoX. LiveZerg is another relatively unknown player who qualified fro the NASL Open tournament. LiveZerg qualified for the ESWC Finals in Paris by taking out players like GooDy and Kas!
+ Show Spoiler [SET 4] + Fnatic August
Formerly of Startale, August was a very strong Terran player. After a period of several months of inactivity due to illness, August is back, but with a different race -- he will now be playing Zerg under the FnaticMSI flag. His background and experience on one of the biggest pro teams will surely help his skill increase rapidly, and he hopes to earn a spot in the NASL next season through this tournament.
GoSu Pokebunny
One of the youngest players on the scene, Pokebunny qualified for IEM New York recently, and while he failed to advance from the group stage, he has shown tremendous potential. He is known for being the best player in the New York region, and has won almost every local LAN hosted there. This is his first foray into major international competition however, and will be playing some of the best players in the world.
WE Loner
Loner needs no introduction, he was a huge name in the beta and early stages of the game, living in Korea with the Prime team and participating in the GSL Open seasons, advancing far each season. He finished 2nd at Blizzcon 2010, losing to Genius in the finals, and has been China's most consistent player for over a year. He has remained quiet lately, but that will change soon, as he hopes to show the world that he can still compete, and qualify for NASL Season 3.
TD Attero
An underrated Protoss player, Attero made a splash by taking down TSL's Killer at IEM New York, and has had very consistent online results and performed well at MLG events this past year. For some reason though, Attero has yet to catch the eye of the community the way players like KiWiKaKi or TT1 have. He hopes to change that through his NASL performance, as he places a high premium on qualifying for the league and showing his skill on the world's biggest stage.
+ Show Spoiler [SET 5] + 4K Lost
A relatively unknown player, Lost was picked up by the famed organization Four Kings several months ago. He made a run at MLG Orlando, nearly advancing to the championship bracket, and has performed well in some online cups. Lost qualified from the NASL Open Tournament, and has shown that he has the capacity to take down some good players. This could be his breakout tournament.
iS Mentalist
One of the newest members of team Infinity Seven, Mentalist is a Grand Master Korean Protoss. He is a frequenter of online cups and nearly qualified for Code A in the most recent GSL, making it all the way to the final round of the qualifier. Mentalist is another player who qualified from the NASL Open Tournament, and this is his chance to compete with some of the world's finest and make a name for himself and his team.
coL TriMaster
Here is one of most darling players in the American scene... TriMaster had his breakout performance at MLG Raleigh, making it to pool play, and taking down Jinro, KawaiiRice, IdrA, and iNcontroL along the way. He is known as one of the biggest up and comers in the American scene and is eager to show the world his skills on the world's biggest stage. TriMaster also recently played in the TeSPA LAN with a respectable finish, and will be competing at MLG Providence.
QxG Shuffle
Another relatively unknown player, Shuffle is an Australian Zerg playing for the now famous Quantic Gaming (who recently merged with team IM in Korea). Shuffle qualified from the NASL Open Tournament but otherwise has been very quiet on the scene. He is not one of the better known Australian players such as Moonglade or Tgun, but nonetheless, he follows the trend of being Australian and a good Zerg player. He hopes to earn his stripes here in the Semi Open
+ Show Spoiler [SET 6] + Tyloo UHEN
A chinese Zerg player, considered to be one of the best in China aside from XiGua. He hasn't been active in the foreign community but is one of two Chinese players invited to compete in the NASL Semi Open, where he hopes to qualify for the prestigious league. He was slated to play in this year's Blizzcon tournament, but was denied a VISA to enter the United States.
Shew
Formerly of team LG, Shew is most known for his NASL Season 1 application video in which he calls out the Terran player Avilo. While his online results and reputation are more unknown, he qualified from the NASL Open Tournament in which he finish top4. This will be his largest event to date and he hopes to make his name more known through his performance.
FnaticMSI Skit
Part of the FnaticMSI Academy team, Skit is an up and coming pro-gamer who recently joined NEX clan on Korea. He lives in the ProS house and is considered by his housemates as the best player in the house. He has played in and won numerous online cups and tournaments such as ZOTAC and Go4SC2. Skit qualified from the NASL Open Tournament.
coL Drewbie
Drewbie was an NASL Season 1 player and was invited to participate in the Semi Open. He trained in Korea for several months with his teammates in the MVP house, and had an impressive MLG Orlando run in which he took down the all star player, MarineKing. Drewbie is one of the most accomplished North American players on the scene and looks to re-qualify for the NASL.
+ Show Spoiler [SET 7] + FnaticMSI KawaiiRice
A Season 1 player, KawaiiRice is one of the more underrated pro gamers on the scene. He is a regular in the MLG Championship bracket, having advanced through the Open Bracket in 4/5 of the events this year. However, he has struggled in big matches. KawaiiRice is most known for his incredibly fast apm and unit control... however he is equally known for underperforming. Here, he attempts to re-qualify for the league.
ESC GoOdy
Another Season 1 player, GoOdy, better known as the "Panzer" General has built himself a unique fanbase. His unorthodox style of play is frustrating and captivating at the same time. He is known for his mech style of play that lends itself to hour long games; and he often delays tournament brackets. GoOdy has performed well recently and looks to qualify for the league once again.
GoSu NamchiR
NamchiR came within one round of qualifying for NASL Season 2 during last season's Open, before ultimately losing to a Korean pro. His style is often considered "cheesy" but he has managed to take down big name players in tournaments and events for months. While he has been quiet recently, he is a potentially dangerous opponent and looks to get another shot at qualifying for the major league.
Grubby
The final player was also a former contestant in Season 1... however he suffered many disappointing losses. Grubby however, has become quite a force... regularly taking top placements at LAN events, such as IeSF, ESWC, and Copenhagen games. He has yet to prove himself in a major online competition however, and this is chance to get back into the NASL. Grubby's style and Warcraft 3 fame have gained him much community support and he is always a fan favorite.
+ Show Spoiler [FINAL SET] + Mouz ThorZaiN
TSL 3 champion and arguably the best Terran player outside of Korea, ThorZain is a fearsome opponent. He actually qualified for NASL Season 2 but declined to participate due to living in Korea for the first month of the season. He is back now for another shot at qualifying for the league, and possibly the Grand Finals. ThorZaiN will easily be one of the favorites in this tournament, so look to him to provide some stunning display of skill.
iS CrazyMoviN
A relatively unknown Korean player, he did manage to make it through the GSL Preliminaries and qualify for Code A. Although he did lose to HerO, his skill is undeniable. He has also been a force in the online tournament scene on the NA server, winning many Playhem, Go4SC2, and ZOTAC cups. CrazyMoviN has definitely established himself as a strong opponent and will be in the running to take home the tournament.
QxG DarkCell
While he was making a name for himself several months ago, DarkCell seems to have dropped out of every day conversation of late. He is a strong Zerg player who has played in several MLG events and made it deep into the open bracket, but has never made the final push to get into the Championship Bracket. However, he will be trying his best here in the Semi Open.
TargA
Possibly one of the most unknown players on this list, TargA is a Norweigan player who is currently living in Australia. He surprised many in the NASL Open Tournament last season by being one of two players to take down a Korean, beating ST_Curious. He is one of the players who qualified from the NASL Open Tournament this season and will try his hand at qualifying for the league and putting his name on the map.
Make sure to tune in to our stream at NASL.tv for all the action! Also, huge thanks to The Planetary Workshop for the brand new maps!

This'll be interesting to see on the new maps.
ToD can take a game off Stephano, but Stephano is still the obvious favourite here.

You guys realize that this just 4 of the 16 invites right these guys might not even be on the same side of the bracket.
|
Tod impressed me so much lately. Well Stephano is obvious Really curious about how Catz will do, really want to know his skill. Really think Machine is a underrated zerg, hope he does well.
And I trully hope they will invite Nerchio as well, now that we have seen Stephano on a "non EU" stage its time for Nerchio to show his monsterous skill!
|
stephano or tod, ship it france!
|
Very excited for the other 16 players :3 Still rootin' for my homeboy!
|
Do we have a good idea of what 3-4 TPW maps will make it to season 3 map pool?
|
"As the claim on SotG goes..." rolf
Good thing SotG is a comedy show or we all would be living in the twilight zone. Still Stephano has it 70%, ToD 50%, Machine and Catz around 20%(bonus for no lag included)
|
Is it fair to say that if an invited player doesn't finish top 4, that we won't be seeing them in season 3?
|
awesome invites so far. like how they're going against the grain and not inviting terrans
|
really seems unfair that a few people are gonna be basically invites to the final when you either need to play a 10 week league or a huge open bracket to qualify normally
|
only the winner goes to season 2 finals, the top 4 qualify for season 3

I like Stephano, but I doubt he'd be unstoppable against most of the Code S terrans and zergs even in his IPL form.
|
cannot wait to watch this will be fantastic, Stephano all the way!!!! lol
|
well everyone supports Stephano because of his great run at IPL 3 what is normal since a foreigner beating koreans isnt so frequent. But you must consider he didnt win any top korean players during that event... he beat violet boxer inori and thestc who are all code B players and Lucky who is a medium code A player...
I wait for seeing how he s going to resist agaisnt the true top korean players of this MLG : HerO, Polt, HongUn, PuMa, July, or ALive and agaisnt the 3 superstars : MC Bomber & MKP.

GOOOOOOOOOOO ToD! Been a fan ever since you casted HSC3!

wtf are you talking about? don't turn this in another Stephano discussion, there are not even top Koreans in here.
|
Stephano is a very good player, as are MajOr, Gatored, Minigun, and Tandongho, amirite!?!?
|
Catz still at the top of my power rankings for best pic while minigun has a dissapointing showing.
|
3rd set of players updated!!!
|
looks like a nice mixed pool of known players and some new faces (atleast for me)
|
We're up to 16 players... half-way done. Check out the first 16 and descriptions in the OP!
|
The player list is shaping up nicely. It has a very international feel to it, especially with loner being added to it. Should make for an awesome tournament and I'm excited to see who are the last four invites (and the writeups for the other 12 qualifiers).
|
Looks like a very strong infusion of new talent into NASL next season. Looking forward to post-season NASL.

Heh, the description of Stephano is already horribly outdated - highlighting his 3rd place finish at Assembly and mentioning that he is "hungry to prove himself in the NASL"

Hehe, yea 2 weeks have changed the entire scene. IPL champion and ESWC World champion, wassup son. I have never seen a zerg look so good as he did in ESWC. Marineking and MaNa got so dominated I felt sorry for them.

you have a picture of ostojiy for attero
|
Thats not Attero's picture at all.
TD Attero
An underrated Protoss player, Attero made a splash by taking down TSL's Killer at IEM New York, and has had very consistent online results and performed well at MLG events this past year.
Thats not quite right either, didnt Attero make a bigger splash at MLG Anaheim where he took down opponents like: Complexity's Stalife, RSVP, GGLastshadow, Liquid Jinro and InkA!
What about The "V"'s showmatches where he takes down trimasters, spades, ostijiy and lizzuma?
Thats just for starters .___. hes got qualifications for iem america's cup knocking out EG's iNcontroL, Col's Cruncher, FXO's Drewbie and Fnatic's Kawaiirice. You got his win against TT1 for qualifying iem ny
pft didnt he almost qualify for nasl only losing to mkp?
|
Any of the following three will win this ToD, CatZ, or my favorite in this tournament Gatored

Quantic Gaming (who recently merged with team IM in Korea). Sorry to be off topic, but was this really a full on merger? O_O

Partnership. As a result of this partnership, all Incredible Miracle players competing internationally will do so under the “Quantic Incredible Miracle” name with the tag “QIM”. We look forward to having the Quantic roster being able to reach out and practice with their IM counterparts. Look for Quantic and IM to be interchangeable in the near future and also the possibility of more "foreign" presence in Korea,
It's not a merger, because IM is still a marketable name/brand. Thus partnership which is basically doing the same thing.

Remember, the top 4 finishers will qualify for NASL Season 3, and the winner will earn a spot at the Season 2 Grand Finals! So the final 12 players will be announced tonight or next weekend? Hopefully the last ones will contain some players of Stephano/ToD/Daisyterran's (or whatever) class...
Well 5 of those players are: Skit, Darkcell, Shew, Targa and Nero. Those are the remaining players who qualified through the second qualifier. Mentalist qualified twice for some reason, I assume Pokebunny took his second spot.
Not gonna lie, I don't know any of them but Darkcell.

why do people always say crap like this, when MMA won mlg, he was b-teamer that was knocked out of gsl code A by a protoss, everybody was saying his vs P was bad , Huk knocked him out of code S and some random toss knocked him out of Code A, Is mma a bad player? look at him now, hes won a GSL.

An A teamer or S class player means nothing in the grand scheme of things, GSL runs at a very slow turn over rate ( that has been changed recently as you can see by the restructuring of the gsl) so the turn over rate will be much better, also the gsl code S players will soon be "deserving" of its code S status because truely only the strong will survive , no more win just 1 game and you stay in code S for another month
For my next point , do you have any idea who these so-called b-teamers took out at IPL ? you trying to discredit stephano like he won against chumps when these same chumps were owning the favorites left and right. i going to mention some of the names the ppl you called they took out.
-Violet took out RET -Inori took out HUK and MC -TheSTC took out Select/Idra -FXO Lucky took out Ryung/MMA/Boxer ( basically eliminated every slayers member out the tournament) -Ret took out TSL ALIVE
Then stephano took out those players who slayed the monsters, So i guess in your book that means nothing?

Anyway i expect stephano /tod/major/ and either grubby or namchair to make it threw.

This post is over a month old and does not include the fact, that Stephano stomped MKP at ESWC. So there is no need to quote this post. I think Stephano is the heavy favorite in a double elimination Tournament, because the other players would need to upset him twice and I doubt, that this will happen. I think, the favorites for the second, third and fourth place are Major, ToD, Grubby, Goody and the last invite, if it is Nerchio, Kas, elfi or Beasty. Attero and Drewbie might have a chance, but I think, Namchir will get eliminated, because his style does not work, if the opponent is prepared for him.

In terms of the NA players I would pick KR or Gatored any day over Attero or Namchir. Both KR and Gatored are solid macro players who have had taken out top tier players, but have yet to make it big(KR qualified through 4/5 MLG open brackets, and the IPL3 open bracket, and Gatored took down big name Koreans at IEM NY).

I would be really surprised if Stephano won't make the finals. His opponent should be Thorzain or MAYBE major.

Going to be crazy to see how these players adapt to the map pool.

I'm super excited to see Crazymoving again. He looked so frieking strong against Hero! Gogo NASL Season 2!!

Thorzain makes finals for sure.

Personally I think Stephano and Grubby will end up fighting for the top spot, but there are a lot of other strong players and maybe the new maps will play a role as the players who came in from the Opens will have more experience on them.

I don't think we will see any of that, because the tournament STARTS at 2 a.m for europeans... Thank you very much NASL! I know it's hard to please everyone around the world, but i don't think it could have been any worse for europeans... Wouldn't it be nicer to start like 2 or 3 hours earlier?
That's just the broadcast. I assume these games have already been played or will be played shortly.

How did the qualifications and invites end up working out? Because I see Nero qualifying, but not present in the semi open. Also Mentalist seems to have made it to top 8 in both qualifiers. Were there just two extra invites?

Nero didn't show up to the open tournament -- so there was a playoff between the two losers of the ro16 of the 2nd open tournament (pokebunny vs theognis) for the final spot... which Pokebunny won.
Hope that makes sense

Just a bit of nit-picking about the graphics:
You have MajOr listed as a TSL player when he was never on the team, and is currently on Check6 You have the old Quantic Logo for Zelniq, Shuffle, and Darkcell You have the old 4Kings Logo for Lost
EDIT: If you need the new logos, I know they can be found here, because I put them there.

Brackets should look something like this I think. Ties might mix around a couple players.
Dimaga vs Vibe Rain vs Darkforce (or Nightend)
Ret vs Haypro qxc vs Nightend (or Darkforce)
Mana vs Socke Kiwikaki vs. Cruncher (or Cloud)
Sheth vs Moonglade (or Jinro) TT1 vs Cloud (or Cruncher)
HwangSin (or Select) vs Jinro (or Moonglade) Select (or HwangSin) vs Sjow

I don't see Stephano being a too huge favorite. I'd say his chances to win are as high as the ones from ThorZain, but i'm pretty sure either of those will do it.

Any chance you could already announce the "selected games" that are being casted (obviously Ro32 only to avoid spoilers) as other tournaments (IPL, ESV Weekly, etc.) do? That would help me decide if I should stay up and watch. If I don't know, I won't watch.

LiveZerg took out Idra 2-1 in ESCW11 (http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Electronic_Sports_World_Cup_2011/Main_Tournament), and Idra is a good ZvZer. So, that first match for Stephano is probably not going to be so one sided.
