That's how Starcraft tournaments ALWAYS worked for years.
IPL took 2 days of event to basically arrive to the same point... may as well have started out with this. couldn't agree more. playing group matches solely for seeding is just a waste of time and effort.

no, puma got paired with the lowest seeds from groups cause he did well in open bracket.
remember hero got last in his group and he is good, but overrated(just my opinion).

Be fair, Hero only came "last" because they played 2 games in that group then agreed to randomise the seeding from that group due to the technical problems.

The lower seeds from the open bracket have some very difficult draws, the format seems to be working fairly well. They'll all have to pull somewhat of an upset to win their matches.

Did White-Ra seriously beat MMA yesterday?? That guy... needs to go to Korea lol. I would LOL every time I saw him in a GSL booth.

I disagree, now he will have to play top 4 from open bracket and then winner of pool A against his opponent.
If he got first he would have been in a much better position and gotten 1000$ more.

Although it looks like theSTC stomped him right after, but whatever

I was really wowed by the play from TheSTC. I think he'll make it far.

That's partly due to the fact that many/some of the open bracket players are considered a bit weaker than any of the invites/qualifiers.

Can someone tell me why Idra had two walkovers yesterday (looking at the brackets)? Did he leave or something?

He ragequit before the match started. jk He was falling asleep before his match against white-ra, because of fatigue and china time.

Which makes sense. This is why I'm okay with invites on a smaller scale because they make sense and it's easier to pick a smaller group of players who are clearly ahead of the competition in some way.
The way NASL invites basically their whole league, you can pretty much look at half of the player list and think of dozens of players who weren't invited who are just as good or better. When it's just 8 invites, you know they're going to be more selective.
The tournament setup is pretty solid and if it weren't for the technical problems and randomization it would have worked out better, the addition money for winning the groups just rounded everything out and ensured just enough motivation to not throw matches in your group.

The bracket structure is just so stupid. Look at this picture.
MC won hes group, still he has to face the open bracket winner (Puma) in the Ro16. People who came 2nd or 3rd in the group stage do not face any group winners OR open bracket top 4s untill Ro8.
Other way around.
Puma won the open bracket, still he has to face a group stage 1st in the Ro16. People who came 5-12 in the open bracket do not face any group winners OR open bracket top 4s untill Ro8.
How can anyone think this is fair? Getting the top 8 seed means you get easy Ro32 sure, but it means you have to face other top 8 seed already in Ro16. If you get 9-24 seed, you do not have to face anyone who has top 8 seed until Ro8.
|
These Ro32 matches look insane. Super exciting tournament -- if only Comcast can deliver, this'll be an awesome day of SC2.

Hmmm, this is more like it really. Gonna have quite a few shots at the Koreans. Think maybe we'll see alive and artis knocked out in quarters at latest. MMA is insanely good, but sheth and then stephano or kiwi... could be interesting. There's a few too many of them to make any bold predictions, but I think we might see a non-Korean top4.
Huk/idra/white-ra should have a decent chance to secure one semi slot. Then Thorzain/demuslim/ret at the bottom of the bracket has to beat one korean after they decide who goes to quarters. The two middle paths I don't see a non-Korean making it. It's not too bad really. 1-2 non-Koreans in semi is my hope/prediction^^

day2 started 4-5hours later then it should have been cause the internet broke down, he was already falling asleep before his first match, and since it was group play for seeding, it didn't really matter.
Sirscoots was there so I'm pretty sure this was a well thought out decision

i hope they sorted out all the technical problems and that we can see some good games today.
go white-ra!!!

Dude, the Ro16 is massively stacked regardless...
Everyone has to face someone difficult, at that point it wouldn't fucking matter. They're all playing somewhat lower seeds even as they go forward based on the people expected to win. The only issues arises with Puma and MC... in the Ro16. Most players they'd have faced there would have been strong regardless.
