Im a German native who is studying both French and English. Just let me say that much: English is pretty easy at the beginning, but I think its really hard to master escpecially when it comes to pronunciation. The difficult thing about the last part is, imo, to choose which accent (i.e. AmE, BE, AE etc) you want to go for and stick with it. Its very easy for a German to mix accents or to, in general, to sound like a pretentious douchebag when trying to talk "proper" English. Also, as someone pointed out, there is no clear graph-sound correspondence in English, which means that there are a lot of different combinations of letters which correspond to just a single sound and vice versa. When it comes to grammer, I think French is much harder than English (could even be compared to German in terms of difficulty). In French the pronunciation is way more straight forward than in English. I could go on and on, but this is not the thread for it. Interesting topic though | ||

Actualy English being easy is its advantage, not the oposite. You should be glad its that way, it makes native enlish speakers life much easier. | ||

German and English have the same roots (Germanic language). if I were Italian,e.g., I would surely consider French to be easier than English (Romance languages) and also, a very important reason why so many people think English is easy in general and easy to learn, is because English is the language which is being taught the most all alround the world and we are constantly surrounded with it in our everyday lives.
