Idra was actually about to lose the series 3-2 until he saw TT1's comment.

What comment?

Just TT1 being TT1 and trashing Idra anyway he can even when he was called out on it.
His only reply once idra took the set was "afk~" and hasnt been seen since lol

Why are people putting down Puma?

This guy beat Ret, Squirtle, July and MC in his run where took first place in NASL Season 1 after advancing out of the Open Tournament where he beat Clide, Alive, Dimaga and Night End. And there is two good Korean Terrans there (Clide and Alive) for those who don't think Puma can beat a Korean Terran.

Then he goes to IEM and beats MC, Socke, Nerchio, SaSe and Stephano, and gets first place, again.

Then he goes to MLG and owns through the Open Bracket to be seeded and goes undefeated in Pool D taking out Kiwikaki, Nada, Sheth, Ret, and Moonan. He ends up losing to Cocoa and then Nada in the Championship Bracket and manages 5th place, but he must have been exhausted playing so many more games.

Let's look at the big names alone he beat from those 3 tournaments:

MC
July
Ret
Squirtle
Clide
Alive
Dimaga
Night End
Socke
Nerchio
SaSe
Stephano
Nada
Sheth
Kiwikaki
Moonan

I don't think we'll see a real test of PuMa's skill against Korean Terrans until Orlando at the earliest - NaDa was a pretty good preview, but it was still rather close (on both series). Bomber should be a good measuring stick to his ability.

Puma is greatly overrated. His games at JYP showed some shakiness in games lasting greater than 10minutes when you would start seeing supply blocks etc.

That said I don't know how to feel. I feel pretty happy for Idra as I used to be an idrafan, but what he has said lately and idrafans I'm kinda in the meh camp.

Still this was an awesome achievement for Idra. For a long time it seemed that he was in honesty a loser. Someone without the belief to win. This was a major victory. Caveat as it will, IF idra goes on to do as he should and win the tournament this will be a massive feather in his cap.

I love how we can call someone who wins 3 big tournaments overrated.

I'd like to visit the planet you live on, but I'd hate to live there.

You won't like my qualification about his victories.

edit: also NASL, IEM, what's the third one?

go be a cynical asshole somewhere else, seriously.

Watch the games. For atleast NASL and IEM his macro did not match MC. Deserves props for being the first Terran to use such an obviously effective spell so well though. Otherwise I'm going to need at the least some GSL results against good terrans.

This thread reminds me of something Milkis translated on twitter from PlayXP which was to the effect of "foreigners can't read games".

Did that series actually strike people as a high level display of cutting edge ZvT? I think that GSL has just spoiled me too much at this point or something.

I think you are one of those people on the internet who sees something good and says, "no, if other people like it, clearly it sucked."

They say, "wow! she's hot!" you say, "no she's really normal looking at best."
They say, "wow great exciting games." you say, "they played bad."
They say, "It's exciting a foreigner will win this tournament which had a pretty good contingent of Koreans!" you say, "No it's not because the Koreans who played in this tournament were bad as evidenced by the fact they lost."

It was an intense series with a lot of multitasking and constant action.

No. I'm someone who is capable of watching, analyzing and comparing games to other games. In the game on Temple I spent most of the game wondering if Puma was ever going to attempt a drop past his initial failure or if he was content to sit and let Idra bank 10k/10k before ever doing anything because I know what [insert Code S Terran here] would be doing and it wouldn't be sitting around.

I don't think every game has to conform to the high standards of GSL or has to be "high level" in order to be entertaining. However, if people are going to pretend as if the series was the best possible TvZ I'm going to call bullshit on it because it obviously wasn't and that obviousness should be evident to anyone who is actually familiar with real high level play in SC2.

Your analogy is stupid. I didn't deny that the games were exciting, I denied that they were "high level" games or were in any way indicative of what good TvZ looks like. I've seen exciting games between two bronze league players on Day[9]'s newbie Tuesdays but I don't claim that they were awesome play. That analogy is far more appropriate.
Fortune favors the prepared mind.

Yeah I can understand ppl being down on Idra, he's had bad results until yesterday/today. But Puma? This guy is the epitome of dominant, particularly in the foreign scene. He really hasn't had any bad results at any foreign tournament (except MLG World Competition whatever, but he had to face MVP in Round 1). He's pretty much outperformed Hero in every way except that Hero has qualified for Code A a couple of times. Yet Hero is held in a higher regard? Someone's gotta explain that one to me.

Grats Idra! I had a pretty good feeling that he could beat Puma if he made it out of his group. I think it was on State of the Game that Incontrol mentioned that Idra played Puma 20+ times or something. So he must have learnt something. I think he can take the whole thing out now, though Elfi has been playing well

They rerun a replay of the even after it ends, or at least they have the past 2 days that Im aware of. Beyond that I think they put vods on esl.tv but not to sure about that because the site is such I mess I try to avoid it.
