DRG was just too confident in his read that JYP was going stargate (maybe dt) otherwise a very quick 6 gate timing both of which hydras are very good vs with the gold up. In a lot of DRG games he seems to favor high % plays which there is nothing wrong with. His 6 pool in the 2nd game on Tal'Darim reflects this point. Its going to be be extremely successful given that protoss FFE most of the time + the unlikeliness of getting scouted first. Just unlucky both games 2 and 3 the protoss went twice with the more unlikely scenarios. That's the difference between Tastetosis and Code A casters, I feel. Artosis would have kept us in the loop about everything going on from start to finish - all he ever does is watch the production tab and analyze it, heh. But that's what makes him so good.

Yea JYP was the one that gambled..... not the guy who took the gold base right off the bat and decided to go blind hydras.

This is true, DRG was expecting some sort of big gateway push off 2 bases and made hydras to counter it Neither person scouted, JYP happened to make the right tech choice and won. DRG kind of got blind countered by not scouting himself. Funny thing is if he did his usual ling/spire into infestor play he probably would have been fine. That or go hydras sooner, if he did that before the collossi came out he would've won easy. hm, don't think the infestors would be out in time think JYP might have also made this timing expecting ling/infestor again but dunno Maybe not infestors but had he either scouted or made reasonable mutas anyway he would probably have been fine. Or made roaches and have been fine. Or done anything but blind go hydras and be fine... dammit

He's obviously a very good zerg but he was getting worshiped like he was a top player in spite of not having the results to warrant that kind of praise. DRG has absolutely been overhyped.

BW fans talk about the game and the strategies Sc2 fans talk about the players and the hype. and whether or not who sucks or who is called what. so sad, why cant it just be about the game? IMO they both showed great skill but in an even game, i think DRG is better. but things arent always even are they? not when you make mistakes and get countered. this is a STRATEGY game and its the most important part of play at this level.

Ive seen him do that build succesfully on metalopolis multiple times. He raped naniwa with it at MLG as well. DRG is gonna be so good someday and he already belongs as 3rd best zerg imo. I hate zerg though fuck zerg id rather watch TvT all day than see any zergs advance.

He places so solid in a lot of games and in other games it's just like... what... you havnt seen the hydra roach vs Terran games in ICCUP weekly have you? Anyway, pretty sure DRG went hydra/ling because he was expecting 6/7/8gate blink stalker to punish the gold, JYP predicted thats what DRG would prepare for and countered that, very smart play. Considering that JYP also FE'd, DRG could have taken the gold then started streaming roach + ling right away with a boosted economy. Playing passive and building hydras was really a low probability gamble. Taking the gold early then defending against Protoss expand w/o scouting at all just didn't make sense.

Pretty weird that DRG went for a 6pool and a metagame win rather than play straight up; I guess he was just scared of JYP for some reason which is weird considering the most normal game was the one he totally dominated.

It's still near impossible to pressure/punish if you do it properly. I did it regularly against P on the ladder (and i'm high masters not a bronze scrub) and if i've defended properly and scout what they are doing i always keep it. If a see someone try and 4gate or 3gate stargate/robo against this build i smile with glee because i know i can defend the all in and they are basically fucked after that. Down side is it mines out really fast but that huge influx of minerals early is so beneficial to Zerg
