We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum.

Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service.

Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. Cut it out.

As an alternate viewpoint to the people who don't want to watch Koreans play, I live in Canada, and the only reason I'm watching is because of the Koreans. Their games are a step up compared to most foreigners aside from a select few and essentially guaranteed to be very high level games. They keep a higher pace of action that is just so much more exciting to watch. MMA's multitasking in the last game was ridiculous.

Lol, are you kidding?

why who else is better ?

Idra ? ;p

plus i said currently - he was the second zerg to reach semi finals in gsl code s

ignore him. he's just trolling. Losira is clearly the 2nd best zerg in the world

I am willing to say DIMAGA has a chanse to compete.
But that might just be fanboyism from my side.

To few ukrains in the MLG imo.

The guy was the first to beat Nestea in a ZvZ, so I'd say he and White-Ra probably are the biggest names absent from the tournament.

It would be kinda funny to see this MLG be win by something else than a zerg since they dominated all week end.

i think you guys are praising mma a little too much

if it was any other highish level zerg i think mma would have lost

he was caught with ALL of his tanks unsieged TWICE, but losira completely screwed up those engagements

i mean his late game drops were amazing but he was pretty much in a safe position to do those drops

it's another game where one player fucks up rather than one player playing like a boss

In all games if someone loses they make some mistakes... All pros make mistakes... If they didn't make any mistakes then the outcome will decide the truly superior of the 3 sc races.

YOur just being negative here.

fair enough, to each his own

i just personally think that mma's play wasn't outstanding in any way, since he was way ahead since losira botched that attack

but the drop in losira's main was absolutely genius

edit: i do think mma is one of the best terrans in the world and could very easily win this tournament, i'm just saying in THIS ONE GAME he didn't do that well

Nope, you're right. I'm as big of SlayersMMA as any but he lets people into his base and into his mineral line SO easily all the time (Losira/oGsSupernova/Sjow) and has to climb out from a hole. These are really basic mistakes that can be fixed too. His macro also isn't the greatest in the world (unlike terrans like Nada/MVP/TOP). What he does bring however is great crisis management, great unit control, and great multitasking with his drops. He's only going to get better. Can't wait to see this guy's future.

So sad that there won't be a State of the Game show to wrap this tournament up. So many stories and most of all - Korean domination to discuss. Sure, some Europeans weren't there (WhiteRa etc) but honestly, these aren't exactly the top Koreans either.

Will we see the same thing happen at Dreamhack in two weeks? I think so.

Would have LOVED to have a SotG on this where the pros themselves can speak on the matter.

What?

MC is undoubtedly the best Protoss in the world. Losira is a top 5 Zerg and MMA is a rising Terran star.

Also, we have pretty much the best foreigners at this MLG. I can't think of any that were sorely missed.

White-Ra

lol no

what? White Ra is easily one of the best foreigners. Much better than most the players in the group play at this MLG

Just woke up and it looks like I've missed some of the best games!

A couple of things I want to note.
MajOr did an incredible job at this event.
Sheth and Slush are on the brink of breaking through that "next level"
MLG have done an amazing job. So much so, that I have enough faith to already buy tickets to the next 2 events. Even an act of god didn't stop them.

Now for the bombshell.
I don't like the fact that Koreans have come through and taken *all* (top 3) the money. Yes, they provided the "best" play, and are incredibly solid/strong/gosu, however to have "The greater race" fly in for 3 days, walk away with $12,000, and leave isn't good for the foreigner scene.
As is obvious, we have a pretty amazing audience now-days, but I don't believe we're giving the best foreigners the best chance at making this game viable. And if the best can't win an event like this, what is left for those at the brink of deciding whether or not they're going to dedicate their time/money/life to gaming, or to a 9-5 job.

Just like I buy the items with the "Made in Australia" tag over those made in China, I feel we should support the NA scene more than we did at MLG Columbus. Either that, or make it equally viable for foreigners to go to Korea, as it is for Korea to come to NA
(3 days for $5k, opposed to 1 month for $1500 in code A)

Sincearly,
Concerned fan.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH!

This should be on the front page of TL. If Koreans come into the western tournaments and take all the money then the western scene is dead. Players like Naniwa and Thorzain could not afford to attend these tournaments if they had not won previous ones. In the future those types of players simply won't show up, because it will be a given that the Koreans will win.

Don't invite the best in the world because we are to bad to compete with them?

Players like Naniwa have said that they WANT to compete against the BEST otherwise it is not a true "competition".. The more integrated the western and Korean scene becomes is BETTER for esports as a whole. BW died out everywhere except in Korea - having Koreans fly in for foreigner tournaments works against that same outcome.

Anyway; i really want MMA to take this!!! Even if he loses though then we get MMA vs MC?

I'm getting pretty depressed by this attitude.

Last I checked we were trying to call this an e-SPORT, as in a competition. If we're going to not have the best players... why bother trying to call it a sport? It's been raging for ages with people saying that the Koreans really aren't the best.

Well, 6 of them came to MLG, 3 of them made top 3, two of the others were knocked out by one of those 3....

They're better. Why should worse players win lots of money? Because you like them more for playing worse?

+1
not inviting the best just so u can win??, those are the attitude of losers

I understand and agree with your sentiment. Only the best players should win the best tourney.
Which is where the GSL comes in, with a top prize of about $87000.
You need to CULTIVATE roots-level first. I might have won my leagues premiership last year, but I don't feel the Spainish international team should have been flown over at the leagues expense, to find out who the best is.

And also, if you want "TEH MASSES!!!" to tune in, you need someone who you deem to be on an obtainable level, and for the 15 year olds just tuning in who may or may not be "The Next Jinro," it is VERY hard for that kid to aspire to be a pro when Koreans are winning whatever they enter.

I'm not saying
"BAN KOREANS!" I'm saying, if Koreans want to participate in a chance to win $5000 in 3 days, let them pay for travel expenses, and fight for their seed points, just like Americans have to do in the GSL, and just like Americans have to do with the MLG.
I'm asking for no privledges. Equality.

If anything foreigners are getting the better treatment. The GOM/MLG deal gives MLG winners auto-seeds into Code A/S (don't remember the exact details right at the moment), and both of those tournaments are far, far more competitive and difficult to perform in (or even get into) than MLG. GOM is doing the exact same thing for foreigners so you don't have a whole lot to complain about.

Except for the part where the foreigners are gone for ONE MONTH. For one whole month they can't compete in any "westerner" tourneys/showmatches without lagging around everywhere. Where with the MLG, the Koreans are "out of action" for THREE DAYS, and even for those 3 days, the GSL stops, so they're not losing any other potential income.
Which is why you've seen the best Koreans out there in July, MC, Losira, and MMA accept, where the best foreigners have already said
"No I will not take the Code A ticket, to leave for 30 days."

Even more so, when 4th place MLG attracts the same amount of prize money as first place Code A.

So we have... 10 times the length, losing tourneys, for 1/3rd of the cash. Foreigners are getting 30 times less potential money per day, and they're getting treated better?

Yes, they are getting treated better. As you can see the Korean scene is far better. A month of training in Korea is MUCH better than winning a couple $100 tournaments every week even if you don't perform well in Code A. And not being able to perform in Code A is NOTHING BUT THE FOREIGNER'S FAULT. sorry for GOMTV expecting the 6.5 billion other people in the world outside of Korea to produce at least one competitive foreigner. which I hope is Naniwa, and I hope he gets accepted into the ogs house somehow.
"thx for all my fans i'm many lost but cheer for me .. i lost but so happy my power is fans i will good play this is promise my fans" - oGsMC

you're pathetic, anybody who wants segregation of competition in this day and age is a moron.

I don't want segregation, if they wanna pay their own way I welcome the competition. I don't feel like we should pay them to come kill our scene.

You're ignoring the debate entirely. Is korean participation in foreign events good or bad is what's being considered. Only when you can answer that can you tackle issues like "should we be facilitating their participation". Your point that they should participate with their own resources seems pretty irrelevant. If its good that Koreans are participating in our tournaments then what's wrong with aiding their participation. MMA Losira MC and Moon are certinaly skilled enough to deserve a spot beyond the open bracket anyway....
