We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum.
Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service.
Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. Cut it out. -- updated 7:55 KST |

A couple of things I want to note. MajOr did an incredible job at this event. Sheth and Slush are on the brink of breaking through that "next level" MLG have done an amazing job. So much so, that I have enough faith to already buy tickets to the next 2 events. Even an act of god didn't stop them. Now for the bombshell. I don't like the fact that Koreans have come through and taken *all* (top 3) the money. Yes, they provided the "best" play, and are incredibly solid/strong/gosu, however to have "The greater race" fly in for 3 days, walk away with $12,000, and leave isn't good for the foreigner scene. As is obvious, we have a pretty amazing audience now-days, but I don't believe we're giving the best foreigners the best chance at making this game viable. And if the best can't win an event like this, what is left for those at the brink of deciding whether or not they're going to dedicate their time/money/life to gaming, or to a 9-5 job. Just like I buy the items with the "Made in Australia" tag over those made in China, I feel we should support the NA scene more than we did at MLG Columbus. Either that, or make it equally viable for foreigners to go to Korea, as it is for Korea to come to NA (3 days for $5k, opposed to 1 month for $1500 in code A) Sincearly, Concerned fan. QUOTED FOR TRUTH! This should be on the front page of TL. If Koreans come into the western tournaments and take all the money then the western scene is dead. Players like Naniwa and Thorzain could not afford to attend these tournaments if they had not won previous ones. In the future those types of players simply won't show up, because it will be a given that the Koreans will win. I found it kinda funny how he talks about growing the NA scene and you talk about 2 europeans. How far is it okay to fly to steal your money? And since he quoted the first prize, $5k, why didn't he mention the other first prize, Code S? Everyone besides the Koreans paid their own way. The Koreans get a free invite to get some free money and kill the western scene. There is a huge difference. If a Korean wants to pay to come to an event and he wins I would support that and cheer him on. Also, as has been discussed, CODE A is the only thing available this tourny, and most all the pro's agree that Code A is a joke and they wouldn't even bother accepting.
Gsl paid for foreigners flights in world tournament.

Admins really need to add to that thread disclaimer that no Code S will be granted based off this tournament and IdrA, Naniwa, and Slush have the opportunity to take a Code A spot.

Saying you prefer to watch Foreigners is not "RACIST", its more nationalistic. You want "Your Team" to win and the excitement wears off without a rooting interest.
If Thorzain or Idra were this far I must agree, it would be much more entertaining as the Foreign scene has really taken to these two players. They seem to have touched a nerve. Naniwa, not so much, although he might be the best of the three.

Why is the losira vs mc match coming up? Isnt the third place match before the finals?

Guess I wasn't the only one that doesn't care about the results of a bunch of random koreans. yes.. random koreans. they are random. july, mma, MC, and losira are random koreans. truly random. gtfo Since I don't watch Korean SC2 in the middle of the night I have never heard of any of them. They don't stream, they don't do twitter, they are never on any of the SC2 shows, western viewers have no attachment to these players. Then don't watch? What do you want? Not let them play because they're better than the players you know? Let Idra win the tournament because he is someone you know? And Koreans do stream. They do do twitter. Not your fault you don't follow them. Not in english. Yes, I wish the biggest Western tournament would not invite any more Koreans. If they want to fly over and own the open bracket with their own money then go for it. But giving them free flight, free hotel, free placement, just so they can sweep the money and kill the western scene, that makes me angry. Maybe they should take the game seriously if they want to consider themselves pros? The biggest tournament in Korea that has a $25000 monthly prize allows seeds into it from MLG, it is FULLY the fault of the foreigners that they simply are not good enough to take that prize. LOL you really think foreigners dont take this seriously? ok, so it's either mimic korean's exactly or be called an amateur. It is well known that prominen foreginer players don't practice as much as even they self feel they should. Players who we know have admitted this: - Liquid'Ret - Liquid'Tyler - EGiNcontroL - EGIdra This is like.. the top of the top of foregin SC2 scene... I can see why, they are making more money streaming and goofing around in sotg etc than if they where just practising. I understand that they need to get food on their tables and they really do alot for the esports but practise should be their no1 priority imo. I'm almost certain idra has said he feels he plays better when he doesnt grind out games practicing. Might have misheard that.
That might be true for Idra, but for the rest of them? I don't know though.. It's such a shame that all westerners got beaten. I hope they recognize the need for more practise otherwise it'll just be another GSL rather than "who is the best in the western scene" as MLG used to be.

Don't play dumb, it's pretty easy to understand what he means. Koreans flying to western events is a relatively new thing, if you watch western tournaments you obviously are way more familiar with western players than players like MMA, Losira or July.

it's another game where one player fucks up rather than one player playing like a boss MMA certainly has a lot of weaknesses I'll agree on that. I don't get it; i think he displayed a lot more strengths than weaknesses in that game. He went for a really risky opener and managed to come back from being busted and having lings in his main and nat a few times. Sure he didn't show bonjwa level play, but appreciate the beauty of what he just accomplished sniping spawning pools and baneling nests while pushing into Losira's expansions was really clutch play and the multi tasking he displayed was pretty sexy
gotta agree with you here. simply astounding play from MMA. I've believed from the beginning!

I do because I love starcraft, which means I'll be happy to watch koreans at the top if they are truly the best. Other people watch for the hype, and they feel more excited when their homies play. I understand the feelings of many people, although I feel that shouldn't make them miss quality starcraft games. There is no shortage of quality games, what makes MLG and other tournaments special to me is cheering for personalities I know. Just having random amazing players, that don't speak the language, that are not involved in the western scene (don't stream, don't go on shows, don't contribute) I just don't care about their results. A korean wins, which one? I certainly don't care, in fact, koreans will take home all the big money, because they are top 3. bitter foreigner much? you're a fucking racist. he absolutely is. It's not racist to only be interested in watching players you know. How does that even make sense? Excitement comes from good games. Can anybody who likes Starcraft watch the GSL and not get excited?
