Okay we're going to start cracking down on people bashing players for no reason. You don't have to like every player, but at least show some respect. (as of page 402)

It's not that bad...

Say Player A sends Player B into loser's bracket with a 2-0 victory, and the two end up meeting later in a Bo7 finals without extended series (I assume you would be for the follow up Bo7 series should the winner's bracket player lose)

If Player B goes 4-3 in both series, the total win-loss for both players against each other is a tie of 8-8. And in this instance, Player B wins the tournament, awarded for being sent to the loser's bracket, and not by winning more games than losing against Player A.

While I'm not particularly fond of extended series either, it still makes sense.

When the losing bracket player fights his way through numerous matches, works his ass off to get back to the final, then must not just win 4/7, he must win 4/5. Thats bullshit.

You just made the grand championship of your event, a lopsided, uninteresting snooze fest the vast majority of the time.

The finals of last MLG were 2-2, yet Naniwa was crowned champion. Maybe if your from planet stupidistan, that makes any sense.

Finished 1-4, beat Select which is great, but overall an uninspiring performance.

Performances (by team, so far):
+ Show Spoiler +

Dignitas 3 representatives in group play
Naniwa - Finished 1st in Pool A. Worst possible finish is top 6.
Sjow - Finished 4th in Pool B. Worst possible finish is 17-20th
SeleCT - Finished 6th in Pool C. Beat qxc in CLB2 and is still in the competition. Worst possible finish is 21-24th

+ Show Spoiler +
Naniwa is being a boss as per usual. Sjow performed admirably in a tough group, and SeleCT will be disappointed with his group play, but you'd be a fool to count him out of making a LB run still.

Liquid - all Liquid representatives are in pool play from previous strong MLG performances
Haypro - went 3-2 in Pool D and came 2nd. Still in the competition. (Worst possible finish - 9-12th)
TLO - went 1-4 in Pool D and came last, lost to Vibe in Championship Bracket LB2 (Finished 25-28th)
Ret - went 3-2 in Pool C and came 3rd. Still in the competition. (Worst possible finish - 13-16th)
Tyler - went 1-4 in Pool C and came 5th. Still in the competition. (Worst possible finish - 21-24th)

+ Show Spoiler +
Liquid's performance in this tournament will largely come down to results that occur tomorrow, but it is fair to say that between TLO's injury, and their unfortunate team kill situation in the LB, they won't be performing as well as they would've hoped.

FnaticMSI - 4 players starting in open bracket
TT1 - knocked out of WB by Mystik in R2, and LB in R7 by rsvp (Finished >50?)
Fenix - undefeated in WB, went 3-2 in Pool A finishing 4th. Worst possible finish 17-20th.
lefnaij - knocked out of WBR2 and LBR7 by wbc. Finished >50th?
Kawaiirice - knocked out of WB by Thorzain in R6, and is still in competition. Worst possible finish 21-24th

Mouz - 2 players in the open bracket
Morrow - knocked out of WB by Fenix in R6, then knocked out of CLB1 by Vibe (Finished 29-32nd)
Thorzain - made pool play via not losing, went 3-2 and finished 4th in Pool C. Still in the competition. (Worst possible finish - 17-20th)

+ Show Spoiler +
Impressive performance considering the strength of the open bracket. Morrow will be a little disappointed, but Thorzain has performed admirably so far and should have a chance to make top 12 (but then might face MC again... T.T)

Evil Geniuses 3 players in pool play, 3 players in open bracket
IdrA - went 4-1 in Pool C and came 1st. Still in the competition (Worst possible finish - 5/6th)
Incontrol - went 2-3 in Pool D and came 5th. Still in the competition (Worst possible finish - 21-24th)
Machine - went 2-3 in Pool D and came 3rd. Still in the competition (Worst possible finish - 13-16th)
---
Axslav - knocked out of WB in R6 by Major, and CLB R1 by qxc (Finished 29-32nd)
Demuslim - knocked out of WB in R2 by Strifecro, and LB R4 by x6Mystik (Finish > 50-100?)
Strifecro - knocked out of WB in R4 by Fenix, and LB by ONEwbc in R7 (Finish - 40-50?)
LZGamer - knocked out of WB in R2 by ONENamchir, and LB by Storrzerg? in R4 (Finish >50-100)

+ Show Spoiler +
The open bracket players + Incontrol are probably not too happy with their positions at present, but IdrA as per usual is carrying this team, and Machine looks to be placing pretty well, all things considered.

ROOT - 3 players in group play, 3 players in the open bracket
Kiwikaki - went 1-4 in Pool B and finished 5th. Still in the competition (Worst possible finish - 21-24th)
Drewbie - went 2-3 in Pool A and finished 5th. Still in the competition (Worst possible finish - 21-24th)
Slush - went 3-2 in Pool A and finished 2nd. Still in the competition (Worst possible finish - 9-12th)
----
Catz - knocked out of WB in R5 by July (default), and then R8 LB by qxc. (Finish - 35-40ish?)
Destiny - knocked out of WB in R1 by Darkcell, and then R6 LB by Slurgi. (Finish - 50-70?)
Fayth - knocked out WB in R2 by Kawaiirice and then R7 LB by Pokebunny (Finish >60?)

FXO - 2 players in pool play, 4 players in open bracket
Sheth - went 3-2 in Pool B and finished 3rd. Still in competition (Worst possible finish - 13-16th)
Moonan - went 0-5 in Pool B and finished 6th. Lost to Kawaiirice in R2 CLB. (Finished 25-28th)
---
qxc - knocked out of WB in R4 by Thorzain, made it to CLB2 and lost to Select (Finished 25-28th)
Optikzero - knocked out of WB in R4 by July. Lost to Namchir in R9 LB. (Finished 33-36th?)
SLoG - knocked out of WB in R5 by Morrow. Lost to Spades in R8 LB. (Finished 37-44th?)
tgun - knocked out of WB in R3 by Cruncher. Lost to Firezerg in R4 LB. (Finish 50-100?)
Boss - knocked out of WB in R1, and LB in R2 by vileState (Finish >100)

+ Show Spoiler +
Decent performance, although I can imagine that Moonan is disappointed. Good performance from the open bracket, considering the strength of the field. Sheth has a good chance to go top 8.

Sixjax - all players started in open bracket
Vibe - knocked out of WB by Fenix in R5, still in the competition. (Worst possible finish - 21-24th)
Major - undefeated in open bracket, finished 4th in Pool D with 2-3 record. Still in competition. (Worst possible finish - 17-20th)
Mihai - knocked out of WB by tgun in R2, and rsvp in R2 LB. (Finished >100)
dde - knocked out of WB by Morrow in R3, and State in R5 of LB. (Finished >70?)
CocoA - knocked out of WB by SloG in R3, and Spades in R6 of LB (Finished 50-70th?)
Skew - knocked out of WB by Kawaiirice in R4, and Fayth in R6 of LB (Finished 50-70th)

+ Show Spoiler +
Excellent performance by Vibe and Major so far, exceeding general public expectations and have a chance to go even further. Mihai, dde, Skew and CocoA will be disappointed but there is no shame losing to to the players they lost to.

Please let me know if any corrections are to be made :D

The extended series is ridiculous. Let's say Thorzain beats idra 2-0. Why should thorzain then be up 2 games already in bo7 if he already proved he can beat idra? Makes no sense.

I think this also shows that the new up and coming teams can really play alongside the bigger hyped foreigner teams, although the open bracket versus the pool play is stifling this being demonstrated to some extent (e.g. SeleCT is 1-5 so far in the tournament and is guaranteed 24th place minimum)

This sums it up quite nicely.

Excellent performance by Vibe and Major so far, exceeding general public expectations and have a chance to go even further. Mihai, dde, Skew and CocoA will be disappointed but there is no shame losing to to the players they lost to.

Please let me know if any corrections are to be made :D

I think this also shows that the new up and coming teams can really play alongside the bigger hyped foreigner teams, although the open bracket versus the pool play is stifling this being demonstrated to some extent (e.g. SeleCT is 1-5 so far in the tournament and is guaranteed 24th place minimum)

Excellent, thanks!

Finished 1-4, beat Select which is great, but overall an uninspiring performance.

While it wasn't great, I don't think it was bad by any means. He SHOULD have beaten MC, he mis microed in g3 and tbh should have killed him... his games vs ret weren't good at all, but its always hard playing someone you train a lot with. and I haven't seen the idra games. so while he didnt perform great, i don't think it was bad at all. We'll see how he does tomorrow
You can think I'm wrong, but that's no reason to quit thinking.

How were the MC vs Select/Thorzain games? Did he "win easily" as he said on his twitter?

Extended Series is indeed the stupidest tournament rule I've ever seen. When the logic behind it is explained to me, I still think its the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

I agree, sort of. I think the extended series rule should apply to all series, except the grand final. That would make things fair: after all you cant discount the pool/bracket play, but if a player is strong enough to make it all the way back they deserve an equal shake at a rematch.

Stream died during Thorzain vs MC. The only thing that was streamed was Thorzain outplaying MC in the end of game 2, but losing due to being way behind already. CONSPIRACY!

I agree - a little tweak to the phoenix pickups and he would have had g3, imho. And PvZ, well...i don't have much confidence for P in that matchup currently, not to mention playing against your own teamates who know your game.

Columbus was always too soon after that motivation incident anyway...
