In the end the bronze terran went 4-2 in the group, with all his wins being walkovers, and all his losses being 0-2
In the end, I went 4-2 in the group HAVING BEATEN THE BRONZE TERRAN! Furthermore, I played out 2 of my wins, and 1 of my losses. 1 of my losses was a walk over because I didnt show up, but the other loss was a 1-2.
How does it make any sense that the bronze player should advance when we are both 4-2, with me taking a series off of the player, and the bronze player ONLY getting FFW?
I'd imagine they just want people who will show up. And less FFL you have, more likely it is that you'll actually show up for your matched. (There are probably exceptions where some ppl just had some freak thing for 1 game but with as many people as they have i would imagine they have to have a clear line, and can't look at a case by case system.) I figured they'd do something like that, so i rescheduled my match with my opponent on my last 2 matches (my GF was gonna be in town so i knew i might forget to show up) so i got those done in the first few weeks. But yeah, my guess is they just want people to actually show up and so they can tell other sponsors something along the lines of "over XXXX matches were played in their tournament" And i doubt sponsers care about the quality of the group stage matches as long as top players make it in to the final 16 or something like that. Sorry this happened to you dude, but at the same time, i can understand why GeForce had to do this

Besides, if you have a fewer wins because of the removed people due to inactivity in your group, there is no compensation for that? Currently, the people with 7 wins get a freebie over many other people who could have a max of 6 or 5 wins because of the removed people... The system doesn't make sense to me. Wait I thought that they would reset group standings before the start of the next round. Do you know for sure that prior round scores come into effect with the amount of FFW people experienced in the first round? Doesn't seem fair, only myself and 1 other player have had 7 games played...so we're up a match? Can't be right, I hope not.
I don't anticipate score carrying over. I think he is referring to a 7-0 (due to FFW's) beating players who were only able to play 5 or 6 games due to the size of their group.
EDIT>> Wins may carry over; they show up on the scoreboard...hmm...we'll see.

Why didn't they reset the record after the preliminary phase?
I'm a bit bitching about this only because I may be on the verge of not advancing from the qualifying phase for the wins I have missed because of the removed players and forfeit wins :/

1 of my losses was a walk over because I didnt show up,
Judging from what I see here it looks like even a single FFL will totally tank your ranking.
EDIT: Woah, this thread is moving quickly.

I had 1 FFL, and so did the top player of my group. The point is that the system is terrible if a player has ONLY walker over wins, and ends in a 4-2 standing. I end in a 4-2 standing too, having beaten the other 4-2 standing player, and I do not advance. This just shows that the system is terrible, and I REALLY hope they work to make a better system that actually makes sense next season, and accounts for the fact that walk overs do not require and skill at all.

I went undefeated in group play what happens now? I haven't gotten any e-mails or anything. I found that im in a new group but when do I play? There isnt a timer at the top of their website counting down anymore.
|
yeah its pretty ridiculous.. they should not be counting any games played vs DQ'd players.
|
My group has only 1 person with 2 losses, while the group after me (who has the person who advanced as #2 in my prelim group) has 4 people with 2 losses. Also my group has a person who's 7-0, while the group next to me has no person who's 7-0. It seems that if the scores carry over, it'd be much harder for me to advance compared to the person i beat out in my prelim group, just due to the difference in starting point... They really need to reset the score when the qualifying starts..

You should see the new group you're in. I haven't seen the schedule of play with them, but I atleast see who is in the qual-group

Well shouldnt it be easier for the guy who went 7-0 to advance then a person who went say 4-2. He won more in preliminarys. Kind of like the extended series in MLG
*Also they said that their standings are from a fourmula not just w/l you can check the rules on their site.

Yeah, but someone who went 6-0 shouldn't have a much harder group than someone who went 4-2 in the same group. out of the 9 ppl in my group 7 of 'em were #1 in their group, while the 9 ppl in the group right next to me has 7 ppl who were #2 in their group (from the same prelim groups) if it were 5-4, and 4-5 and i got the unlucky side, i'd understand that's just the luck of the draw, but this system is punishing some #1 players more than they should. Basically if i had went 5-1 instead of 6-0, (getting a FFL) against the person who went #2 in my group, i'd be in the latter group, being with a ton of people who were #2 in their group and has more people with more losses than me. They should at least balance it out? I'll look up their "formula" i guess but i can't imagine it makes any logical sense, or mathematical. Will edit once i look up their formula

The next matches start on this Thursday

@Mirror0423 : If you find the formula, let us know, 'cause I wasn't able to find anything on how the CEVO system works behind the scenes.
|
I'm less concerned about the group placement (which they said was RANDOM!!!) than the scoreboard issues. Frankly, if you plan to advance--and ultimately win--you have to beat everyone anyways.
I think the ranking system is an issue, but hopefully it will be mitigated by the fact that people will actually show up to matches in this round. I hope that FF's will be less of an issue this time around. I know that I'm showing up to all my matches (baring unforeseen circumstances)

1 GM, 5 masters, 1 diamond, 3 platinum; rough group.
Hopefully the matches are posted soon; they're really not giving enough time for anyone who needs to reschedule.

okay... i couldn't find the formula, but, i figured out that the gray name by your name is the rankings... so... ranking for my group: 109, 477, 623, 1101, 1206, 1362, 1762, 1903, 2071 ranking for next group: 309, 509, 670, 1018, 1126, 2138, 2593, 2630, 2742
To make these groups "fair" you wanna try to make these ranking numbers per group, when add all the rankings up, to be as even as possible. that's why #1 ranked person usually plays the lowest, and #2 plays the 2nd lowest. I realize that there are more than 2 ppl per group, but... when you add the numbers of these groups it comes out to be... very very different. Even if this "CPI" was the way people ranked these people, the way they placed people in to each group seems to be flawed. Ehh they prob. won't change these even in other seasons anyways.
|
Well the grouping are a bit silly im the no.1 ranked player, so i should have a fairly easy group yet here are the rankings of everyone in my group: 1 (Me) , 8 , 18 , 21 , 23 , 26 , 32 , 47 , 85 , 95

Wondering if the Destiny vs Ace game is going to be coming up or not. Yes the casters pick which matches they are covering. I believe they have people looking out for good games to cast. Also they are doing Destiny vs Ace. Edit: The video for that series: http://geforce.cevo.com/event/geforce-starcraft-2-pro-am/video/36720/
Haha, the video comes up right after I post about it, nice. =P I swear it wasn't there when I asked!
