AFAIK, IEM doesn't hold qualifiers for their Korean invites. They also don't like inviting just the super stars, they like inviting some of the lower level Koreans to give them a chance to shine.

(source:http://news.replays.net/page/20111211/1641349.html) Q: So you've finally met up with a Korean player in the final, how do you compare yourself with the tip top player in Korea? A: I don't actually feel there is that much of a difference between us in terms of skills, the main problem was me not performing very well in the finals. Q: Can you please summarize what mistakes you've made in those games. A: The first game I've made the mistake of not scouting his first barrack in time and ended up wasting a lot of scouting time, thus did not have enough time to prepare for his rush. I've thought a lot about the second game, but his initial push with the 3 tanks caught me off guard as I was preparing for his drops instead. Usually by the time he starts dropping I would have about 24 mutalisks in play. After his tank push had ended, I figured his tech would be slowed from the push and thus I stopped producing mutas to start teching myself. As a result of this, I did not have enough mutas to properly deal with his drops. Q: Do you think the difference in skills between you (or the Chinese gamers in general, there is no pronoun that indicate this) and the Koreans will change in the upcoming year. A:This will largely depends on the event organizers in China. Currently, the biggest obstacle that is facing the Chinese players are in the maps that we are using at home. In China, the maps we play on are either very old or custom made. Maps like the ones used in GSL, MLG are very hard to come come by. This puts us at a great disadvantage when playing against international gamers. We hope the chinese tournament organizers will take this into consideration in the future. Q: Do you plan to go to Korea next year and what are your thoughts on HOTS. A: Our fanclub (team) is already looking at sending its player to Korea to compete. I do not have a good outlook on HOTS as I believe zerg will still be underpowered in the expansion. Remark: The literal translation of the part in regards to Xigua's view on HOTS is given below for comparison Transliteration: I believe after HOTS, zergs will still be in a state of tragedy. Because HOTS has not finish being translated yet, It should rather be called "Broken heart of the Swarms." Q: Would you like to thank anyone beside your fans. A: I would like to thank my fanclub (team) iG

Actually come to think of it, the fact that this is the best gossip people can make drama out of from this event... it shows how bad this event was! :p

XiGua didn't have a chance from the start :p it could be bo(insert any number) and mvp would still win decisively. hes skill is not on par with mvp sorry. i mean how do you not see a 2rax bunker rush coming on skakuras and actually die to it. 90% of the code s Ts do it vs Z on that map.

In fact, it shldnt surprise you if the standard of leagues are as following KR > CN > EU > NA. It was that way in BW and WC3, and imo, it already is that way in SC2. Ppl just needs to drop their fan boy attitude and recognise that Xigua played a great tournament and was 2nd only to MVP. Its ironic that some ppl are basing his performance by ''1 CC and 1 Medivac killed all game'' when half the ppl are so blinded by favoritism, they cant tell a good player from an avg player in this tournament. I don't think I agree. CN was and is not behind KR in WC 3. CN was and is not ahead of EU/NA in SC 2. For WC 3 - in tournaments, someone has to win, and someone has to lose. Two players of equal skill playing a Bo3 will still inevitably result in a 2-1, not a tie. I did not get the impression that Lyn outclassed Fly or Sky. He barely edged out the win in both cases, and had the home field in WCG to boot. Not to mention, I heard that Lyn (and other KR WC 3 players) mostly train on CN, kind of like how top foreigners train on KR for SC 2. For SC 2 - XiGua was outclassed by MVP, as was every other foreigner except the Protoss players, who managed to take games off of him and managed to beat Supernova in PvT. Outside of that, well, Kas beat MKP in TvT. Hardly a case for calling CN > EU/NA, especially if you also factor in F91's loss to Snute, and one WCG isn't enough to tell, anyhow. My personal opinion is that the best EU/NA players, when properly prepared, are still a bit ahead of CN players at the moment. Perhaps if SC 2 becomes bigger in China, this will change, but the very top EU/NA players are capable of taking games from the very top Koreans. I don't think XiGua looked like that this tournament.
