Looks very interesting this idea of open qualifiers from master above, good motivation for some to try to push for masters( me included)

This is going to be sick. I really like this idea of having openings for other players other then just being an invitational. GL HF!

I would imagine(and hope) that it's setup so that a player can compete in all four of the open bracket qualifiers, I believe Alex implied this earlier instead of having a double elimination qualifier.

That way, if you get a crazy draw in qualifier 1, you can just try again in 2, then 3 and if somehow you're still not getting it and you're good enough to make the league, you have one last chance in the fourth qualifier, but instead of top 8, you need to be top 4.

It adds that sense of urgency while still giving players plenty of chances to quality.

How I look at that is that if you want to compete then you have to have at least a decent foothold on the game. There are plenty of good people in masters at the moment that havn't reached Grand Masters for different reasons. The fundamental understanding is that if you want to compete then you need to have at least put in the effort to get yourself into Masters.

Even if you have cheesed your way into masters you have at least practiced the cheese multiple times but they defintely won't win in the long run. Especially how it's not all based on BO1s.

If I was a diamond/lower player then If i want to compete then I would now have a reason to work myself into Masters and then sign up to the qualifiers... Not sure how else to say this in any other way!! glhf

I'm worried that hacking will become a major issue for this league.

Am I correct in thinking that 28 of the 32 spots will be determined via an online open tournament? If that is the case, then hacking would seem to be a potentially HUGE problem. What's to stop anonymous cheats from using the latest hacks to help them qualify for the tournament?

Or using ringers.

Yes, you can participate in any amount of qualifiers. Once you land a qualifying spot though, you cannot try to raise your seed by competing in more qualifiers.

I love how the league is using qualifiers, as this will allow for a lot of the newer players to prove themselves. I loved the IGN league #1, and I know this one will be even more awesome.

So yea, i think the mappool is really good.

edit: by players i meant people who actually have a decent chance at qualifying for this, not everyone who plays sc2.

Yes, no iCCup maps please. Testbug is awful. If it's a winners pick next map format, it is always the zerg player that picks it. "You mean I can deny the Protoss/Terran third super easily? /trollface"

Does anyone think Crossfire is a good map and fair for Zerg tho?

I checked the NASL stats and zerg seems to be doing fine on this map. From games I have seen, they also do quite well for themselves. I guess the many hallways is counter-acted by the fact that all the bases are so spread apart which is easy for zerg to defend and harass.

I think it's interesting that when NASL wasn't obviously going to be inviting Koreans, everyone threw a huge fit. But when IGN explicitly excludes anyone living in Korea, there are some comments, but not a ton.

I think this is because NASL has opened themselves up too much to feedback. I think people would respect NASL more if at the beginning they'd simply stuck to their guns instead of making a show of appeasing everyone and their mothers.

IGN doesn't have feedback threads in every single sub-forum, and yet are doing fine.

I think it goes to show that sometimes, appeasing the community has more to do with just doing your thing well than it does asking everyone in the community what they want.

Yes but NASL is not a fair tournament for Koreans due to the lag. I don't know why people would want to watch handicapped Koreans play. Furthermore, I don't know why there have been no tournaments created where there is online regional qualifiers (qualifiers specific to each region) where they take the top 4 (or whatever other number) players from each regional qualifier (NA, Euro, Korean, SCEA) and have them fly to a specific place for a grand finals LAN for the big money. That way you have the best of the best from all of the regions compete in fair conditions. GSL World Championship was nice but whose to say that the Koreans and Foreigners selected were the very best representatives for each scene overall? Invites-only tournaments aren't really my cup of tea. The GSL WC was also pretty small in scope as well.

NASL promoted itself by having "the best players in the world". IPL has done no such claims.

Right. And at NASL, the discussion erased because some players and viewers demanded to exclude koreans because of the competition. It was not because of lag issues or other considerations by the organisation. The reasoning is hugely different.
