It's ok to be excited that your favorite player won. Please keep it manner! |
I saw when the players went to be interviewed by that cute girl so I was wondering where I could find those. Thanks
Also talking about interviews anyone know where I can find that HuK, Tyler, TLO interview with the beard? I was standing like less than one meter from Tyler but the event was so loud that I couldn't hear anything they answered. (They started to play music just at that point or something like that)

The thing is I can understand the casters being tired, missing stuff happening and even not getting which player has a lead. It's human.
What I really disliked was that the casters almost did non stop criticising of the players. While I "can" accept that if it's done in a humorous manner, or from people that give reasonable explaination of why it's bad (read artosis / day9,...). I absolutly cannot appreciate a caster who will go : " this player is horrible he should do X" and the X is absolutly bad, or cannot be done in the player situation or requires the player to have full view of the map (like the caster have).

I'll freely admit that I was amongst the countless numbers of people chiming in to the general criticism of the cast and that, after reading Marven's and Martijn's comments, my conscience does stir a bit. I didn't bash (or at least I think I didn't), but my comments weren't exactly neutral either.
Certainly they deserved better, especially considering the circumstances Martijn described, and I hope the blow to their motivation isn't too big. Everyone putting in effort for the community deserves respect and it's easy to lose track of that if you're caught in the tide of an uproar like we had during the live commentary. It probably won't mean much and chances are they won't read it, but sorry from my side. Should have known better. The criticism itself may or may not have been justified, the manner in which it was delivered was not.

Perhaps you could ask help from the pro gamers at the event who are not playing at the time. Even if their English might be far from perfect, they can make the show entertaining by giving some serious insight to the strats used and so on. At least this kind of an approach worked quite well for levelup tv at Dreamhack during the Quake Live tournament.
Yes, the pro gamer casters have always been great, so if they don't hate casting they are almost always the best, and when the main casters themselves aren't even native english speakers their english skill shouldn't matter. Of course I understand that most players don't want to cast but it's always so good.

Casting from khaldor was epic. :D
|
For me it's quite simple.
It's not like the GLHF guys are bad, cause they're for sure better than me, just the other available options are better.
I can see Total biscuit or Khaldor working for televisions or radios anyday with some training, cause they have some serious talking skills, while I can't really say the same about the GLHF guys, maybe cause they're not using their native language.

Imba whining can get you banned, but caster bashing, IMO, is worse. You have anonymous posters spewing their bile, you can almost sense the visceral hate they have for this caster or that caster. The other day some team manager said that casters are almost bigger stars at tournaments than players (not really true at Assembly). But if what he said is true, I guess being a caster also comes with its downsides. well how else can people set things right and stop this nonsense where martijn gets priority in casting gig over totalbiscuit for example. Ugh did you even read Martijn's post.... why would i do that? Believe me there is nothing more i would enjoy then everyone being happy and doing what they love. Unfortunately that's impossible and those with superior skills should get the priority. What have reading his post to do with you incoherent second paragraph? You made a statement about the TB situation in which Glowbox rightfully so facepalmed at you inability to even bother to read Martijn's statement... And in response to your first response to dizzy, I have to say you must have limited social skills if you can't think of better way to give feedback than what happend in these tournament threads. nice thinly veiled personal attacks. Fortunately i don't like to beat around the bush so i'll just say youre fucking stupid if you think me bringing up TB had anything to do with that particular game. I used him as an example that Assembly shoulda put a bit more effort into shopping around for casters before picking GLHF as their official one.
Oh and also i suggest brushing up on your english before calling out someone as incoherent. Thanks.

That wasn't a personal attack, I'm sorry if you are so touchy this. And what exactly do you know about their efforts to bring in other casters? Yes the administration during the tournament was clearly been lacking, but that doesn't mean you should spew wildly ignorant claims around.
And I don't see how my imperfect English has anything to do with the validity of your own post, it's still just as incoherent. If you work on your social skills I'll promise to work on my English. kk?

I'm happy that we're getting some support, but I'm not fishing for compliments. For several matches, I didn't cast nearly as well as I could and not nearly as well as people have come to expect from me. Largely because of the treatment Maven got and the drama over game invites. I'm man enough to admit that really ticked me off. What I'm hoping people take from this is that the things you may casually throw out there on TL can actually negatively affect an event. Meanwhile some people still don't get it. For those arguing with them, just leave them be. There's always going to be bad seeds in the community, it is not worth your time and effort to sort them out.
Now what I actually came here to post is that there will be a lessons learned document written to hopefully better future events. I'll ask the organizers if I can make it public to benefit other events as well.

That's actually my biggest critique as well, and I want to quote this just to highlight it. There's nothing I find more annoying than casters criticising players when they're wrong about it. Player does X and I know why he does X; yet the caster says it's bad. It's so annoying.
