wow im really surprised that polt won. Was expecting maka to go through
Not surprised that leenock got eliminated everyone has been overhyping him quite alot since tastsosis were like omg hes amazing. Hes good but not amazing plus he is only 16 probably gets really nervous
Maka has been really disappointing for a while now. He looked so strong around release time, but recently he hasn't been impressive at all. Those up and down matches he played were just embarrassing.
Rain could of gotten in to Code S. I was vying for Cezzane to pull through; however, I feel that even though Polt.Prime is another Terran to add to the code S mix, he brings a unique play style and actually is willing to deviate from the normal strategies. I don't see him going as far Cezzane could of though.
I can't believe Polt is in code S again. He either practiced his ass off since the Up&Down matches or he got lucky 6 times! I was really hoping Cezanne or Leenok would go through
Man, Maka out round one to Polt is a surprise. At first I thought maybe the only reason we all know Maka so well is because of the MakaRax, but I don't think that's the case - there was blissful as well, and he has had good gsl performances in the past. They are teammates though, so Polt could have had some suck strats for that match.
Also too bad about Cezanne, we could always use more oGs players in Code S, as well as more players randomly named after French post-impressionists.
I do think Polt is more solid than we usually give him credit for though, he has had some very innovative strategies in the past. (If memory serves me right, he was the first to use the marine-raven-banshee timing attack, no? I could be mistaken, though.)

I'm pretty sure it had been around before that, but yes in the round of 64 Polt vs MC on Scrap in GSL1 was the first time it was used in a big streamed tournament, which greatly increased its popularity on ladder.

what purpose did this sentence serve other than showing us your incredible culture?
I don't think Polt is very good, but winning on these maps (Shakura, Xelnaga, Scrap) suggests he was more deserving than the other contenders. That perception could of course change after actually seeing how the games went.

I'm sorry that someone making a joke offended your anti-intellectual sensibilities.
glad for polt. would have liked to see jookto get back in there, his group was just horrible last time and he never stood a chance, and getting another non-terran back in there would have been great. oh well, at least it keeps the haters mad

too bad, i was rooting for moon, cezanne and LegalMind.
the good thing: the new maps will rip terran apart :D
I was actually hoping it would be Cezanne in the end. I'm sure we'll see more of him in the future, anyway. As I recall Polt is one of the guys who always gets mentioned when interviews roll around to the "who would you like to thank" portion.
nah plz go easy on Rain. Isnt leenock tastosis' top 3 zerg and maka being top 3 terran ? they lost in round 1 too. Anyone wanna bet maka & leenock will be out in round 1 code A and never see them again ? too much hate Remember Rain is on TSL with many talented players of all races around. I have faith in Rain improving in no time and crawling back to code S
Disappointing, last we need is another terran. Was hoping for Leenock or Moon. Maka would've been acceptable, since at least he's a potentially interesting interview.
Polt had to have practiced his ass off since the up and down matches considering he only put up a decent showing in one game on blistering vs Lyn i think. So you gotta give it to him for that, but i cringe as another terran is added to code S.
Ehh. I guess Polt is better then some of the people. I really was hoping for Maka/Leenock to pull through, but I guess it's becoming apparent they were only good for a brief period

Naw, Leenock's a good player, Maka's brain just hasn't been working lately. Remember that Cezanne has a halfway decent ZvZ and that's probably Leenock's weakest matchup, doesn't surprise me that that matchup turned out like that.
Even if you watch the games Leenock lost against Byun in the up and down matches, he was playing pretty darned well. Byun just happens to be really, really good. At worst Leenock is Code A, but I think he could very well get back to Code S this season.
Btw it's weird to me that people are surprised about the results on Moon vs Rain. I would have predicted that exact result. Rain is solid Code A material no doubt, but Moon is sort of on the upper end of that category, maybe even Code S material when he's having a good day.
What are you basing his improvement on? I'm curious, because I didn't think he looked like a Code S player at all in his up/down matches. Or in any of his other matches.
PoltPrime is certainly a surprising winner, but he's not as bad as some of the other players there so I guess that works out fine. Was hoping for Cezanne, Leenock, Maka or Moon to make it through, but this will do fine.
Another Terran doesn't really change anything since the original Code S spot was taken by a Terran. There happens to be only one more Terran in GSL5 than in GSL4. Can't tell if it was Zerg or Protoss who were cut back short by one.
On February 02 2011 04:38 Sqq wrote: Why is everyone saying Maka slumps etc ? Hes not been good in a single match in the gsls. Just goes to show ladders means fuck all.
Maka's been one of the most solid and consistent Terran players since Beta phase one. He's qualified for all three GSL prelims and barely got knocked out by Nestea 2:1 in season 3 ro16.
I see TSL_Rain performed to my expectations. I wasn't expecting PoltPrime to do as well as he did, however, given his performances in Code S Jan. and the up & down matches. Perhaps it was a slump?

This is such a weird thing to say. What matches have you seen?
Maka is one of the most overrated players in the game right now. I was expecting Cezanne to take this, and it is a shame for the racial balance of Code S that we have yet another mediocre Terran. The good news is that Code A has quite a decent balance (well not for Protoss...) so we might see some more non-Terrans go up in the next Up-And-Down matches.
Wow - Out of all of that Polt goes through? Totally was not expecting that at all.. Leenock and Maka really haven't been living up to their hype lately, which is kind of disappointing.. i also really thought that Cezanne had a shot, he had some really impressive play..
...I really thought that Maka would kinda rise up and be the Maka we all came to know but he failed... T.T but well congrats to Polt on getting to Code S :D

I never heard of Maka through ladder. He just seems to pop up everywhere and has showed impressive games. I know a few are archived on Day9's blip site. Maka vs Whitera in Europe vs Asia on the first map removed from the map pool anyone?=p

Actually he had a very impressive series against Nestea in GSL 2 or 3 forgot which, especially the match on Xelnaga caverns.
He's just having a slump. His first build against FruitDealer in the up and down matches relied on not being scouted, and then he was obviously on tilt after that.
I think he is just a player who varies a lot, but once he has enough practice he will become more consistent and eventually get back to Code S.

Nope, even if FD didn't scout, FD would of won that first match still. He had already started his spire prior to scouting.
His build was retarded and very late to attack, while i understand the raven was possibly built for the PDD for hydras etc. counter. the banshees should of been built first. I'm guessing he never thought FD would go muta lol.
It wasn't just his match vs FD, people are making these comments about his play. Its pretty much his play in the GSL of recent months.
Anyway no suprise rain didnt make it, i'm sure a few people had a laugh again.

Plus it's not like he's been playing poorly. He played kinda dumb in the LiveForever series but it was more of an unsafe build order given what LiveForever was doing kind of thing rather than continually making bad decisions. I also thought he played quite well against Byun.
This was bound to happen as players fade in and out. maka was nothing special in wc3 (90% of the wc3 community probably had not heard of him) and i think the RTS experience helped him early but either he didnt have the motivation or was left behind by the improvements of other players
Polt's obviously pretty good if he consistently beats players that are part of the top tier of SC2 players. It shouldn't be that surprising to see him succeed when he's been in the mix this long.

Yea losing with 4 place in ro32 is the same as code a finals win.
oh no poltprime... we don't need an alltime-midclass terranplayer in code S... We have supergood terrans like mvp, mkp, chinro, nada, slayersboxer, bleach and TOP... I wanted to see Leenock in. He was a young hopeful zergtalent

Kind of sad of how poorly Maka is playing but I was quite happy to see War3 players like Moon come close to it. Cezanne's been pretty strong recently but I didn't expect this from Polt. Thanks.
