lol. but look at the tech tree for cloaked attacking units:
zerg: pool, warren, burrow, lair, tunneling claws
toss: gateway, core, twilight, dark shrine (takes forever btw)
terran: barracks + tech, factory, starport swap, done.
keep in mind that terran can get a reactor on barracks and produce defending units just fine. all a toss's gas is going towards dts and ur basically left with mass zlots and some stalkers.

god, dark times t-t
maybe because reavers are slow as hell and very expensive, plus they need a shuttle and good amount of micro. its awful to watch hellions no matter what, reavers did wow moments because they were fucking difficult too pull off.

guess why there is a protoss player in the top4? + Show Spoiler +because he didn't meet a terran

oh, so you are the guy that brings a knife to a gunfight everyone is talking about.
I don't know if hellions are balanced but..
I know that moving the probes at the natural and just accepting that he might loose 3 or 4 is far better than clumping them up and run them away when you have a stalker 2 feet from the probes about to finish off the hellions. As long as there's a fighting unit with high priority targeting in the back of the mineral line hellions need to be microed to target probes while he was messing around with that banshee.

Not to say that Tyler didn't make any critical mistakes - PvT feels heavily terran favored. Terran has so many avenues of aggression while the protoss has so few.

exactly. i dont agree on the balance talk and it was teelers mistake.
but that people compare hellions to units that are WAY WAY more expensive, work in totally different ways and require tons more control is nonsense.

IEM cologne = reaper hate
Dreamhack = Hellion hate
wonders whats is gonna be the next "amagad imba"

Here's what could have made Dreamhack great:
IdrA Dimaga BO3 from the start

Banshee cloak needs to be made harder to research (like psi storm and amulet for HT's) or protoss needs to be able to make portable detection without having to go robo tech.

You realize that in Broodwar 3 vultures for 225 with 3 mines... have even more damaging potential?

Problem is that it is far too easy to force that kind of mistake (and from a player known for his multitasking and awareness). If Tyler didn't have to juggle all his units, probes and production back and forth at the same time to deal with 1 Banshee and 2 Hellions and he made that kind of mistake then it would be a "big mistake".
Anyway, it isn't so much of a balance issue. Other races are fine, and Protoss units are fine individually, but the race design and dynamics from the ground up is just bad and limiting.

thats a different story: lets compare harass un TvP. BW: vulture=reaver. equal harass options. SC2: hellion/banshee=?
dont tell me dt/ht, its not even imaginable to even get them.

Hellions themselves don't deserve all the hate. It's just that notion that a protoss scouting a factory tech-lab can have no idea what is coming while unable to pressure the terran in return.
|
It's bad that nowadays every tournament thread is crying about imbalances. Of Terran mostly.
I wonder why?
|
Every protoss should build to pylons at the back entrance, so he doesn't have to defend 3 areas.

You realise that it was a huge mistake by NonY but not imbalance? Clustering up all probes against blue-flame hellions - come on. All respect for NonY, but no one but him to blame for this huge mistake / probe loss. ... preventable=/= balanced. name me one equally easily made terran mistake that would equal in consequences. And there is also the consideration of the fact that this is a unit simply too volatile and/or luck based to be a part of competitive gaming. You can easily lose 30 scvs really fast when you clump them under storms or colossus fire. Of course these are higher tech units than Helions, but still. And beside that, maybe you should focus on the fact that these Helions got several shots of, that Tyler decided to attack them with all his probes back in his mineral line, instead of continuing to move them away and split them. That he had only left 1 stalker behind his none-pylon-wall on the side and none at his expo. That he A-moved a 50supply army to kill one Banshee. Tyler made a series of mistakes that lead to this disaster. He can blame noone here but himself, and it surely has not anything to do with imbalance. storms or collosus are like storms and reavers pretty much. Hellions are vultures with ability to two shot millions of scvs. They did get several shots off and in my opinion that highlights the root of the problem- the fact that nomatter what position theyre in they can at any second two shot your whole probe line if the (stars) workers align right, making it, while partially a move of skill, mostly a move of luck.
