It's sad that so many people just joined TL. IDRA COMPLEMENTED MACHINE. This is a historic fucking event right here.

Really the tourney should be a round robin of 1v1 matches in a best out of 41 (ie 21 wins to victory) format. That way we could be certain (95% confident) that we actually have selected the best player. Given the way that GSL style tourneys are held, we can only be 50 to 60% certain that we have the best player winning. It's basically a coin flip. We lose most of the information in the qualifying system. We then still lose another 25% or so of the information in the Ro32 and Ro64. For Example, if Idra wins 70% of the time vs Lotze ( dunno their true ratio, just a hypothetical) , he still doesn't make it out of the Ro32 9% of the time (just his bad luck this time). The ESL format is much better for determining true skill. But Round Robins take sooo long that you have to limit the number of players. The theoretical ideal would be a tournament of the suspected top 100 players that would have 4,950 matches of best of 21 in them in round robin format. That would mean each player would have to play about 750 hours of SC2 in the tourney. (assuming a 1/2 hour game and most matches going to around 30 maps). If you did that over the course of four months, you'd each have to play about 45 hours per week for your tourney matches. Or the top 50 could do it in less time. Regardless, without putting that much rigor into the tournament system, we will just have to rely on sound judgement sprinkled with intuition to determine "the best" along with some occasional show tourneys to get people pumped and bring in that ad cash. Imagine during the naughties Tennis tournaments were non-tournaments... Federer would win most if not all the tournament he enters. As much as we want the best player to win, we also want to build suspense, knowing the person could lose and be out of the tournament at any time. Sadly this 'suspense' sells. Of course world cup system has group tournanments first before the 32 tournament format. I highly recommend this system over anything.

Even given the knockout status of tennis Federer & Nadal still won almost everything in the last 8 years, but you can't really compare apples and oranges; in tennis a player that's clearly better will win 95% of the time, whereas in something like baseball a dominant team only wins around 60% of the time. Starcraft is somewhere between the two I think. The best way to do it IMO is group stage and then knockout for quarterfinals onwards, with double elim also a good option.

If he's not sure what he wants to say or is trying to talk about stuff as it is happening, he should just slow down until he can get it out smoothly imho

For starters he has a habit of making grunting/sighing noises on the mic for no reason. It's not laughter it's just audible utterances that really sound awkward and unprofessional, sometimes it's all he does for 10-15 seconds straight. I think if he consciously tried to stop doing that it would be a benefit to his casting. Second he has a horrible habit of mumbling his way out of what he is saying. Rather than say what he wants to say and stopping, he will continue talking until it turns into an incomprehensible mumble, usually ending in the aforementioned grunting sigh thing. It's one of the most basic principles of casting that your speech is clear and direct. He'll have a funny line or something meaningful to say, but then he kind of ruins it by not just stopping at that. Obviously taking some time to learn unit names and being able to refer to things as what they are in the heat of combat rather than this guy and that thing is another thing he should work on. That said I like the guy, he doesn't deserve hate. He has a good voice and he can be a valuable asset to a more knowledgeable caster, but he has formed bad general speaking habits that he should really practice to get rid of.
