You have to keep in mind the nervousness factor... this isn't sitting at home playing random practice games. You're in the booth in front of an audience, with many thousands of people watching the broadcast... there's money on the line and your future success as a pro gamer can be seriously affected by a bit of missed micro or forgetting to scout something... there's a lot of pressure on them, especially the ones who aren't super confident in their abilities.
The terran had his timing attack planned out but wasn't expecting that many lings... he got behind in the game and had to rebuild, he saw zerg expansions go up that he couldn't prevent, and he knew he was up against CheckPrime. It's so difficult to play well in a situation like that, I don't blame him for just massing up and hoping Check would make a mistake and get caught off-guard.
But yes, if you want to win, you usually have to force that big mistake to happen instead of sit there and hope to get lucky. Some banshee harrassment or drops would have be nice to see... the mech was too immobile to get anything like that done...

That translator is doing an awesome job.

I feel like this bracket was kinda stupid - 4 players dominated while 4 played very unimpressively. I think nerves may have gotten to the players especially after losing their first games. They made very big mistakes that I doubt they'd normally make when playing. Regardless, some really impressive play by all 4 winners. Tester isn't looking as invincible as before dropping the only match by the winners today and he's going into the same match up against hongun who just ran over zenio.

The game was basically over after the first push failed. His whole BO was extremely strange, he could have went 5 rax reaper after seeing that check goes for 14 pool 15 hatch without gas.

Wow@saying that the terran was terribad. Didn't you noticed that every check, cool and tester (and rainbow to a lesser degree) opponents ALWAYS looks terribad ? There is a pattern here.

Not sure if that's sarcasm but, that really was the translation. Check said to drone up and get a strong early economy.

Tester is gonna play against TLO or Hyperdub, 2 T Hongun is in group D

I actually think tester looks stronger than ever. PvP is a very volatile matchup with various all ins and cheeses available and the fact that he stopped a proxy cheese he was supposed to lost to with great strategy and micro and positioning makes me think he's a huge force in this tourney. Also, since all the really great players dominated today, that'll make Ro16 even more intense in this bracket when they play each other.

I think it was more of a fail on the opponents part than a win on testers part that won him that match..

It's too bad he has to beat ITR and one of 2 beastly Protoss to make it out of his group ;(

If u really think that you are not considering the 400 apm shown on the stream by tester's part.

Clearly he was using all that apm to attack move.

On September 17 2010 21:03 arctics86 wrote: How to fend off all-ins? Make drones - Awesome! that might seem counter intuitive at first but that is actually absolutely correct. Your first thought when u see an all in is "if i start making units now i will be able to crush his all in" which in reality is a gamble- maybe you can maybe you can't, the correct train of thought is however "if i make a ton of drones now i will be able to eventually push his all in back with my superior production value" The tricky part is of course finding the balance.

Check's opponent just did not play well, there are still plenty of mismatches in terms of skill / ability to execute on stage etc

Yes, because Spire tech and Corruptors dont cost much more gas than vikings and starport tech, right? Silly Zergs, should just make 20 corruptors with their infinite resources.
