A monthly tournament seems kinda weird to me though, compared to the OSL or MSL. How prestigious can a tournament be if there are 12 winners after 12 months?

As a clarifier, the 12 winners and other high performers are selected for the GSL championships for an even bigger prize pool finals. Should be extremely intense.

- After all three tournaments, the top 32 will become "Code S" players. - 33rd-96th will become "Code A" players. - Code S players and Code A players earn the right to participate in the GSL 2011. - If a Code S player drops out before GSL 2011 starts, the top Code A player will fill the spot etc. Hmm, so if you missed the GSL 2010 train (which alot of the worlds best players will do) there's no way to get on the train for atleast another year?

You can't always schedule your way around the others, are they supposed to delay everything for three weeks because of other events? That seems rather unreasonable. Yes, they allow non-Koreans to participate and have an English stream, but it's still a mostly Korean event, you shouldn't expect them to schedule around non-Korean events.

Is it a month playoff, or do they compete until the season is "over" in which case, more random/new players can register and attempt to qualify in another set of preseasons? I dont think it says how it will be structured anywhere in web in english but I remember reading a korean article about it. If I remember it correctly, there WON'T be a GSL league game every month but rather 4~5 GSL league tournaments a year. However, in between GSL league tournaments, there will be various other events. My memory is little fuzzy but if I may try, one was called 'SC global ladder challenge' and it was going to invite top ranked ladder players from all different regions for a tournament. There were few more events but I dont remember them atm. I will try to search it and if I find it, will provide a link. Also, if I remember it correctly, even if you dont win prize in a tournament, you will be paid a money (like a salary) by just holding either code S or code A rank. I dont think it will be much though. ps I found this from korean wikipedia site - GSL will be held in Jan, Mar, Apr, Jul, and Sep - World Championship will be held in Jun, Oct - Ladder Tournament will be held in Feb, May, Aug, Nov - Blizzard Cup, in december http://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/글로벌_스타크래프트2_리그 basically an event every month.

I mean how many can continuously afford to: take a break(job/study), pay for travel, pay for accommodation, pay for meals(I doubt you can cook in hotels).

With regards to the NA tournaments, it'll make an interesting decision for our pros. I imagine those who are already living over there won't travel back here for them, but I was ULTRA impressed with how MLG ran their tournament and I plan to continue to tune into their events, that was actually the most exciting tournament I've seen so far. IEM was pretty meh, their host was someone with an agenda to whine about game balance and their coverage was broken up too much. as for Blizzcon, they stopped free streaming those a few years ago opting for PPV instead and honestly I don't think its worth it because they stopped giving good in depth opinions on topics, opting for generalized political answers instead. I remember back when someone would be like "hey, rogues aren't being used in 5v5, is anything in the works to change that?" and they'd answer with stuff like yes, we're looking to increase their mobility and to give them another offensive debuff they can put on their target. These days they'd just answer something like "its something we may be looking into" which doesn't tell anyone anything. So basically I hope that GSL doesn't overly effect MLG becuase that's a quality tournament but the other two aren't a big deal from a spectator standpoint.

I barely ever played regular SC:BW (I only played UMS) but I still love watching the pro's play BW as much as I love watching SC2. Now I only play SC2 ladders though.
