When else would you have a monthly tournament? They were unaware of the support they would get from the foreign community towards the first GSL so I don't foresee them accommodating foreign tournaments anyway

This goes both for players who feel they underperformed in the current season and for players who can't make it to a specific season.
Yeah, I'm hoping Artosis will make it further next time. He's a good player I just think that he's got a lot on his plate, both practicing and casting.

in case some people forgot :
Global Starcraft II League
- 2010 GSL is a league to determine the groups for the 2011 GSL. - It will be decided through 3 StarCraft II Open Tournaments. The players are assigned points for their accomplishments in these leagues. (Points will be revealed after all three tournaments are complete) - The format will be single elimination. (Bo3 for Ro64~Ro8, Bo5 semi, Bo7 finals) - The prize pool for each tournament will be about 200,000,000 won (app. 170,000 USD) - Default speed will be 'Very Fast' (guessing faster) - Player must use the race they register with - Up to the semifinals, Blizzard's official 1v1 maps will be used. Both players pick 2 maps they want excluded from the pool, then the maps are randomly chosen for each set. - The finals will be the same way except both players pick 1 map they want excluded from the pool. - After all three tournaments, the top 32 will become "Code S" players. - 33rd-96th will become "Code A" players. - Code S players and Code A players earn the right to participate in the GSL 2011. - If a Code S player drops out before GSL 2011 starts, the top Code A player will fill the spot etc.
btw I dont mean to side track this thread but there is a news circulating that few top SC1 pro gamers that are switching over to SC2.

GSL goes too fast, not enough hype for matches IMO. Definatly Id prefer if they did it every 2/3 months, hard to follow and watch the games, play, and do other stuff in life with this many matches.
And it's also being harder to find a player to cheer for.... Oh well, more games I guess.
|
More top ranked foreigners need to participate before former and current top BW players make the switch and start dominating.
Hurry guys, gogogo.
|
I will be there again... hopefully I can qualify this time! =D

I believe it will smooth out after these Open tournaments when the best are chosen for next year! Also you get to see new players possibly emerge as top contenders.

They forgot to say "you have to be in Korea". Honestly, this would be a lot better if you could do online prelims (lol realm lock) before deciding to dump so much money into travel+lodgings+food.

really really really interested to know if any other non-korean progamers are considering participating in this.

Wait, so is there this massive prize pool every month?

Agree.
I've watched every single game so far. So, for $20, the entertainment value is pretty high.
Willing to pay more for higher quality VODs D:

awesome. nice to keep the activity up

This $20 thing a month feels like having a WoW subscription
Of course, I'm going to pay it, since I can't resist!
Since they're having a $86,000 tournament every month, a pro gamer could potentially play (and win a few) GSL tournaments for a couple years and retire for life. Madness.

has anyone heard which if any of the NA / EU players will be going over?
|
wow another $85000 USD tourney winner every month... my god that is a lot of money compared to BW winners. I hope many switch and BW dies to SC2

As of right now, in my opinion, I find more enjoyment in watching the streams on TL, iccuptv, gosugamers etc., than watching a low "high" quality broadcast at 3 am with players not as good lol

If I remember correctly, once the season officially starts next year (GOM refers to the first 3 tournaments of this year as preseasons), the money actually won't be as high. These first huge prize pools are meant to draw in potential contenders from BW and the general public. Though don't get me wrong, the regular season tournaments have some pretty hefty prizes regardless

Is it a month playoff, or do they compete until the season is "over" in which case, more random/new players can register and attempt to qualify in another set of preseasons?

JulyZerg is going to be in the next GSL. )) I wonder if any other BW progamers are going to switch over in time.
