Maybe you could bind location hotkey to "alt"+Key on the number or QWERTY rows, with shift + ALT to create them (since you don't create them that often). Or try an alternate layout like TheCore or FleetHotkey, although the layout of the CTRL/ALT key location might screw those. | ||

I was wondering if there were any specifically protoss who are notable who go without location hotkeys much love. Rotterdam has been GM a couple of times, he doesn't use location hotkeys as far as I know. Don't think Nathanias (terran, another GM) does either. These guys don't have the best mechanics, though. It's a handicap for sure if you don't use them. BTW just curious, you mention GSL code A. It's just a troll and not hard to spot either. I watched his last twitch vod and he was playing in gold league with a bad winrate. So, don't worry OP. In gold league, it's already above average if you use hotkeys and control groups. I doubt that camera hotkeys are that common below masters. It definitely helps using them but it won't get you 4 leagues higher. | ||

And they always just use them for their bases, spamming between them. But later on, i've noticed that they somehow forget about using them and just use the minimap instead. If you could master the use of camera hotkeys, and not just use them for your bases (because you actually have a specific button for that) then that could make you a faster player, i garuantee it. Other than that i feel they are quite overrated. I don't use them either, but then again i'm just a scrub master league player. | ||

It's pretty obvious in hindsight. @MagnuMizer are you sure you don't see (good) pros use them? I feel they are crucial for high eapm. I remember this video as well. And as I stated in my previous post, it would indeed be beneficial to master the use of camera hotkeys. Re-hotkeying new locations and replacing old ones constantly during the game would enable you to respond faster to different situations than just using them for macro - i.e. hotkeying the base locations. As for pro's, good ones too, I feel the camera hotkeys are underused in that aspect. That is just my impression and I may be completely wrong, but I've been watching streams for quite a while now, also during my training to become a better player, and during that time I have noticed the way pro's use the camera hotkeys and as I said, they mainly use them for macro purposes. As a Terran you could use the camera locations at certain hotspots where you often do drops. In general you can hotkey a common fighting location, I have also seen some people hotkey the location of their main ramp or you could also hotkey the location of where you are currently attacking. There are certainly possibilities like this that are viable, but it's another aspect of already difficult mechanics to master. On top of microing and macroing, hotkeying units and structures you would also have to stay on top of your camera hotkeys - as a mere human that is quite the tall order. That is the optimal use of camera hotkeys I feel. And personally, I don't want to incorperate another set of mechanics - suboptimally - just to cycle between the bases when I have a single button for it. Granted the camera hotkeys lets you choose which base to look at specifically, but with the cycling button you just cycle through them 1 by 1. As a Protoss player I average 2 bases in all my games, so I figured there is no need for the camera hotkeys. But if I would ever aspire to become the best, I would definitely look into ways that would make me become as fast as I could be. | ||
