Yes, but once you do have a tech lab, you don't know whether a siege tank or a thor is coming out. But with a Stargate, you always know if you're going phoenix, voidray, or carrier is coming out.

You can't scout zerg. I mean, yes it doesn't matter, but seriously, why can you see all of Toss' air units from stargates before they're created.

Yes, you're supposed to take it serious when you're response is pretty wrong.

With all the other races, you have to figure out. But with Toss air units, you already know.

Every race has strength's and weaknesses. They don't all need to be the same in every aspect. Anyway, that's completely off topic. I had heard the spawning pool started to bubble when upgrading but that may not be true.

Is there no difference between when a barracks with techlab is making a marauder and if the techlab is upgrading stim? Or even if a starport with techlab is upgrading cloak before actually producing a banshee does it look different?

oh and you spelled terran as "terrain" in the OP haha
Don't forget to get everyone you know to play HOTS so this game we love called Starcraft will live on. Every little bit helps. ^^

Does the animation from the hatchery between building a queen and researching differ or is it the same?

I remember in a GSL game, one player started researching medivac energy upgrade on the starport tech lab early in the game to give the impression of cloak researching when he was scouted. Medivac energy is only 100/100 is easier to allocate for the fake. Of course it was cancelled later.

The tech lab only becomes animated when an upgrade is being researched. It does not activate when a unit is being made from its attached building. The hatch, lair, and hive have the same animation for upgrades and queens. Thanks for the questions and forcing me to make the thread more clear. I edited the thread to reflect.

This is not only useful for scouting and guessing timing attacks but also for zerg players looking for good contaminate targets. No use in contaminating buildings that aren't even researching anything. I do suspect however that some of the animations change in different graphics settings. Have previously been fooled by tech labs which seemed to upgrade things in low graphics mode, but it turned out that they didn't.

Protoss addition:

When a warpgate finishes its cooldown, a short flash appears around the black sphere to indicate it is ready to warp in another unit.

I knew most of that but the differences in the Toss buildings being built are actually very interesting and could be useful if you don't click in time to see what's being built also I have thought about whether it's sort of unfair that you can see what's being built from a Stargate but really in the big picture that's never going to have a major impact on a game of any import so I don't really care anymore, also you already have a 50-50 chance of guessing since there are only two reasonable units that come from the stargate.

Thanks a ton for posting this.

I feel pretty ashamed for not knowing some of this stuff, especially the starport graphic. I often wonder when I aggress whether I need to destroy a port or not.




Also, the graphic for queen production is very slightly different, it is not the same.

Hey michaelhasanalias was anything being made or produced in the hatch on the left of your video? thanks for posting.


edit: just noticed that it says hatch empty on the video title. I didn't mean that the queen production animation was the same as an empty hatch, lair, or hive. It is the same (or at least indistinguishable by me) as a lair or hive that is researching an upgrade. So if you make a queen and an upgrade in side by side lairs it will look the same. Thanks for taking the time to make that video i will check out my wording in the thread.
