I have been working extra hard on creep spread today and developed a system that I am pretty proud of, i would love to share:
To start i re binded f8 and f7 to my razer lachesis mouse. Any mouse with side buttons works.
The mouses buttons are called forward button and back button in the Sc hotkey menu.
After every inject cycle, (I inject using the backspace method) I will spread creep. I do this by hot keying a spot on the map that has tumors.(camera hot keys, f5-f8 (I re-binded mine so there f1-f4)) (idle worker is now my scroll button on my mouse)
After each creep spread cycle, you will need to re hot key that spot a little further up on the map.
I create camera locations using shift+ my mouse button
To sum it up, I inject then click one or 2 of my mouse buttons (depending on the amount of space i can cover at the time) and shift + c the creep in a LINE.
I think this is a amazing tip to get used to the creep spread range and just being able to box and spread quicker on the go.
Spawning tumors beside each other will make your life a whole lot easier.
I prefer no more the 3 tumors per spot. (3 spread really fast, anymore could be placed elsewhere)
If anyone has any questions, I'm very happy to help.

Most people would be against using extra mouse or keyboard buttons to play this game. The method your using seems pretty troublesome imo. Creepspreading is already pretty easy to maintain, most people just "forget" to do it rather than not doing it fast enough.

That was a great thread title, not gonna lie :D props. Will try your technique out.

You can use them in live tournaments assuming using your own mouse is allowed.
I am already used to hotkeying my creep tumours, I never use the camera hotkeys for anything so the old-fashioned way works for me

From what I read, this isn't a macro hotkey. All it is is making use of the Hotkey Location by rebinding two of them; one to 'forward' mouse button and one to 'back' mouse button. He drops a tumor, rebind that location. Everytime he does his inject cycle, he taps the location hotkey, jumping to it, spreads the tumor and rebinds the new location.
This is no differant than, say, rebinding Control Group 0 to the F key (GRID Zerg has no key that uses F); It makes the queen hotkey unique and removes the chance of accidentally selecting hatcheries or adding queens to your hatch hotkey.
I find this to be a good idea; I've yet to mess with location hotkeys, but I think I'll incorperate this into my cycles.

You're allowed to re-bind keys using the options that Blizzard include with the game.
The mouses buttons are called forward button and back button in the Sc hotkey menu
He's using the SC2 options to re-bind keys that the SC2 Hotkey Menu recognizes, in this case "Forward button" and "Back button", he's not abusing macros.

This is something I started doing recently when I decided to actually sort my hotkeys out (only I have camera keys hotkeyed as F1 - F4). Just track its progress across the map by rebinding it when you spawn tumours, and you can use the hotkey to instantly pop to where your creep is. Seems to be working well so far for me at least.
Typical rotation is: spawn larvae on all hatches, use up larvae asap (because every moment a hatchery has 3+ larvae is a moment that hatch is not passively producing larvae itself), extend creep.

Yes it is in Sc2 options and it is in the hot key menu. Blizzard recognizes this and this is no where by any means cheating, or abusing macro keys.
The back mouse button, forward mouse button and scroll button are legit.
When blizzard came out with the patch that allowed us to change hot keys this became a valid tool that can be used.
Macro keys are options you have on a foreign program, that prerecords key functions so if you press one key it will press what it was programed to do.
Correct me if I'm wrong but blizzard has programs that detect these macro functions and will ban for it on the spot.

Chef, this thread has no funnies. I'm disappointed but glad for your tumor advice.
Edit: Oops, this is the wrong Chef. Thread title misleading...

I have 16 buttons on my mouse. I can set any of them to press any sequence of keys, with or without delay. I can make a macro so that I press a key, and it will do a sequence of [enter][g][l][,][ ][h][f][!][enter], and have it type "gl, hf!". I could also keybind it so that pressing the button will be a press [F8] function, to be able to keybind locations, and that would work just the same. Its not like you can actually get any advantage from it, so its not like they care Unless you do something stupid, like trying to initiate a superfast repeating key sequence to try and crash their servers from too much input, or something dumb like that, they just dont care, because hey, you paid for the mouse, and its slightly more convenient to have extra buttons on the mouse, but not gamebreaking.

I'm sorry I din't even realize that, and I'm not the same chef. Its been more then once that I have been mistaken for him. Even in game, my name is Chef and players ask, of course i say I am not the same.

That is far different then what i am prepossessing with my creep spread idea.
You are talking about abusing macro keys, this is very frowned upon.

I guess it was in my head all along, I always thought they had programs like that ever since brood war (I was a kid back then). This changes nothing, I still don't condole the use of this. Players know who use this that its at there own risk.

Macro's can give an 'edge'. Example: Mouse in center of screen, [backspace][<queen hotkey>][inject][backspace][inject][backspace][inject] Move mouse to middle of screen, instantly inject all your hatcheries. something like 5 or 6 backspace+inject would be fine for most games.

The idea is nice, but I don't really think it's faster than clicking your minimap, boxing your tumors and spam click while holding c.

the guy specifically asks to be corrected if hes wrong, Im just telling him that he is, as requested.

I honestly think it would shave off seconds at a time. Much like the backspace inject method.
It just takes practice to get it down like the inject method.
We do these actions so many times during a game, those seconds can add up to a minute very easily.

Very true. Just getting in the habit of using hotkeys makes my APM so much better.

I have back mouse button on basecam, 1 camera hotkey on forward.
I can't tell you how immensly helpful this has been.
I had to force myself to try it, and it took some games getting used to, but seriously. You can't argue against it, it's just really wierd to say it's not good. It's absolutely too good to be true even, feels like using an autoheal addon in wow when those worked. It's positively sick. And really, why argue against it when it can't be negative in any way, it's a positive thing, it's like saying "I would like a banana, I have a banana but now I will throw it away because it takes too long to eat the banana" Okay that metaphore sucked. bg.
|
I tried this once but I never really used the camera hotkeys so I'm finding it pretty slow, I think I just need to use easier hotkeys. I find the best way to expand tumors is just to do them after you spawn larva every time, but that doesn't mean I actually do it...

i much rather prefer base camera set to w and inject set to e with my queens on 4,
I only prefer this because i find it a little awkward to click the side button and then left click and repeat until all hatcheries are injected.
I find it much easier to use w and just click.
I really like 2 camera hot keys as well.
I strongly recommend putting idle worker on the scroll button.
The scroll button is just a useless function we have in Sc, many people shun scrolling.
If not the idle worker, anything. As zerg i find it immensely helpful when i shift click drones places and need to expand i can just click the scroll button instead of clicking the mini map.

It takes practice to get down to a science, Once you do though it will be like a reflex. Its not really that hard, its just the matter of actually practicing it.
