Heya guys,
This happened a few times for me now:
The terran I play against opens with a standard bio ball with medivacs and some vikings.
Then after our first battle he all of the sudden switches to mass banshees + vikings.
Like 20-30+ banshees and lots of vikings mixed in.
He just spams scans on my army to kill every obs I have and the banshees pretty much eat anything thats on the ground alive.
I guess the way to counter it is mass phoenix/voidray or something but I can't tech switch like that ever :/
Any1 has some ideas?

well 20-30 banshees take a long time to make, what did you do in the time?
i mean with a robo/stargate you should be able to scout what he is doing
Against Heavy Starport Play get Stargate Asap.
letting him getting to many banshees is not good, they deal way more damage than mutas.
definitly get canons, canons have a huge range of detection and at least decent hp unlike Observers.

But when they do this they go super turtle mode which is pretty hard to kill 
ofc they dont have 20-30 banshees instantly haha but after a while they do and its damn hard to break a terran that plays super defensive

i agree mass banshee are really hard to deal with by Stalkers, cause Stalker suck hard.
so if you suspect more than 2 Banshees get Phoenix and go snipe them.
Phoenix can hold their own 1:1 against Vikings easily, Banshees can't shoot back.

youre going to need a lot of obs for his scan + snipe.

He can add a raven or two to make it even more annoying.

First off, replays are always helpful.
It is pretty obnoxious that terran can snipe obs so easily. The main thing is as long as you can stay ahead of the vikings with ur air units you should be fine.
Like freetgy said, 20-30 banshees takes a long time to make. You should have ample time to react(by getting starports) to that if you scout it early. It comes down to always having an idea of what your opponent is up to and how to take advantage of that.

Stalker HT works well. Phoenix + gateway army also works well. What works best? Never letting the Terran get that many Banshees.

hehe true that I might have overreacted a bit with the 20-30
but even 10-15 with a bunch of vikings to snipe obs are so deadly allready :p
Scouting the banshees is the way to counter it and react on it, it seems

Seems like stalkers with templars would be nice. If not for the storm for the feedback. (If you think you can micro them effectively) After most of the banshees are eaten or pretty much dead the stalkers would be able to clean up.

id be careful about getting too many stalkers. point defense drone tech would already be available to him.
i think stopping him from getting to this point is the bigger issue.
an earlier starport might make him change his mind.

Every strategy has a weakness. Exploit that weakness. If he goes "super turtle mode", don't try to kill him. Starve him. Take the expansions around the map instead.

Storm.
No obs needed to storm and it's the best counter to banshees because templar/storm cost < banshees cost. Same for building time, banshees are sooooo long to build, horrible. Then use the mineral excess to harass his eco/expo with zealots speed.

Yeah, exactly, don't be overagressive, if he turtles and u're unsure about strength of ur push then just take 1-2 expos, add some high tech and camp outside his natural, HTs demolish T if u support them with some gate units + air ofc, phoenixes best, since he will pump both viki and shees then he wont be able to produce more vikis than phoenixes + since buff u can produce really fast out of 2 stargates. On a side note observer's detection range is 11 while banshee's shot range is 6, put obs behind ur army so even if he rushes for it u're gonna fry half of his vikis with storm and stalkers fire. Build many pylons around the map and spread observers to patrol for sneaky expos, drops etc.
