I've seen a lot of top players drop units from overlords or medivacs while their dropship is moving. What happens is as the mass amounts of overlords move into the opponents base, the units are dropping out of the overlords as they are moving to the mass drop point.
I know that you can click the portrait of the unit in the dropship and it will instantly come out, but it seems like they do it so fast that there is some other technique I do not know about.
Obviously you can have all of your dropships selected and just hit drop on a location, but it is very slow and the units come out one at a time.
So how is the moving drop performed?

click "unload" on dropship

Set the medivac to move somewhere you want, hit D for drop all and target not the land below the medivac but medivac itself. This way the medivac will continue moving along its previously issued path while unloading the cargo.

1: Give your group of dropships a move command 2: Hit shift+D 3: Holding shift, click each dropship
When your dropships get to the location you specified with the move command, they will begin dropping. You can either queue up another shift+move command to make them immediately start moving to the next location once they start the drop, or you can manually give them move commands after they start dropping. All the dropships (and the Nydus worm) unload at one unit/second, as far as I know, and there's no way around it.

Thanks for all the quick and thorough responses!

Select the Overlord and right-click to send it to a destination.
While it's en route, hit D, the hotkey to unload, which should change your mouse to a reticule.
Left-click on the Overlord and it will begin dropping units one at a time as it moves.
