[H] PvP 2 gate rush

Hey guys I'm mid-high silver played atm and it seems like 75% of my PvP games my opponent goes straight to two gateways, with no gas, and just rushes me with about 5 or so zlots. I normally scout this fairly early and so have to adapt and end up getting a second gateway, which I then chronoboost trying to get out enough zealots in time. Most of the time he's got more than me and even though I've only left a small gap at my ramp he still manages to beat me. Basically I was wondering if there was any other way of countering this other than matching him with a second gateway and hoping i can get enough stuff out and then rely on my crazy micro skills (which at my level is 50 apm :p)

I can post replays if necessary, and thanks for the help TL :D

best is still go 2 gate. use probes to help u tank some dmg and mess hi AI. ultimately it boils down to ur micro. u may leave a small gap and start getting cyber core and stalker/sentry while pumping zealot to match his numbers. once u get ur core up get stalkers and u will gain the advantage from there

You should just stay with 2 gate to counter his usually you will have enough time to produce equal amount of zealots and be able to tech up since most silver players hardly macro at there base and build more probes. Make sure you are trying to tech into a cyb core and are mining gas for warp gates and possibly stalkers/sentry. I am in plat 10-20 range and have little problem countering 2 gate which is semi cheese. You should be far a head if you are able to defend against his 2 gate and with warp gates finished could FE or void ray him.

Yea I do the whole Gate one side pylon + cyb core the other so there's only that 1/2 square gap. And I do get wg if i bide enough time. I guess the best thing for me would be to shift the 2nd gate further up my BO and then tech into the Robo slightly later.

Yeah I actually think it's a waste to get your 2nd gate too early. 1 gate --> core + optional zealot --> chronoboost stalker should hold a standard 2gate fine


also if u really want u can make a partial wall over the ramp so u can block it with 1 zealot then put sentry or stalker behind that, see that all the time.

a good player doing zealot pressure will cut probes and dual 10 gate. If you don't scout it in time, 2 zealots will be at your base before your first one comes out.

making a stalker is laughable. It takes 17 stalker shots to kill a zealot. He'll be killing the pylon blocking/powering your gateway and killing probes while ur stalker fires his pea shooter.

Proper response to dual 10 gate is to throw up forge and place a cannon behind your buildings (protecting all buildings and probes). If you built at ramp, he's going to kill the blocking zealot/pylon.

HAH I laugh at you. I don't know what rank you are but I always do simcity with my first gateway and core in order to make a one zealot available opening. Guarding that opening with two zealots, which will cause him to attack your two zealots with one. 2:1 ratio = rape. Then if he tries to attack buildings with your early core you should be able to chrono out a stalker. All this happening while you are getting warp gate and more gates. Cheers. Don't listen to this guy with a forge, wtf?

I try not to wall in for PvP and here's how i handle proxy 2 gate. For normal 2 gate you don't need the forge just make sure you don't make too many stalkers as they suck against zealots till you have a decent amount to kill and kite.

Match his gateway count and save chrono for them. Cut some probes if needed to make sure your gateways are producing zealots nonstop. If at some point you feel like you are fighting an uphill battle or are just tired of microing zealots throw down a forge and just 2 cannons around your nexus and that will put and end to the rush.

At that point focus on balanced probe / tech / army production until you feel confident you can come out and fight. Stargate void ray is usually a good follow since he won't be able to produce that many stalkers, they are expensive and A void ray properly charged can kill like 4 before dying.

I wasn't talking about walling... and sim-citying when teching with a lesser gateway count is one of the smartest things you can do... wow. But to another way anyways, walling yourself in is good too... for maps like Kulas Ravine, skipping zealot and going straight stalker will allow yourself a proper wall-in. Though you have to kill a gateway later, if you went a blink or void-ray build you are miles ahead of a 3-4 gater. 2-Gate is easy to deter.

My post was mainly directed at proxy gates in 1v1 maps. I usually don't bother doing anything weird against 2 gate pushes except making sure my chronos are going to gateways and keeping a zealot/sentry heavy army till its safe to transition.

No mention of FF usage on your ramp to split his zealot army and pin them down while you have a pylon + zealot + gateway block?

When a P masses zealots, you just need to get a good mix of sentries and zealots. FF + divide and conquer, use your base layout to your advantage. After that you just need to hold him off with micro until your warp tech + 4 gates and economy kick in, then you can laugh at him as you double his production and steamroll him.

Double 10 gate really does suck though, and i ahve been overwhelmed by it before. I think i may try out the simcity strat if i scout it though, sounds interesting. Anyone have a replay with a proper layout for this?

I don't know why so many people dismiss photon cannons. I'm only silver, but in my experience, a two gate rush is pretty dangerous. You usually discover this after you are proceeding in your normal build and only have one gate, and have been spending your money on ramping up your economy.

Since he's already got two gates, you can't build a second gate yourself and keep up on zealot production. You probably have very little time to do something about the rush, so I throw up a forge and a couple of cannons at the choke.

I usually partially wall off, and if I think I have very little time before his zealots arrive I will build my forge to completely block my entrance to slow him down while my cannons build.

Yes, cannons can be a waste of money because they don't move, but they are not all bad. The rusher has pretty much committed to trying to kill you right now, and most of them will lose at least a few zealots against the canons before they give up. So the price of the canons is weighed against the damage he did to his economy and the zealots he lost.

And you get to keep the canons! People forget, canons at your choke will kill observers and dark templars sneaking into your base, and they back up your defenders if you are behind in unit production. People are afraid of them, and they deter lesser attacks they may well succeed if only the other player tried.

If you go the other way and try to frantically build units to catch up to his zealot count, you MAY succeed, or you may be sadly overwhelmed. Not everyone is a platinum level player with the micro finesse to survive this kind of rush without canons. Canons give you a 90% chance of survival without the need of master level finesse.

2) build pylon to wall ur choke where zealot fits.

4) profit
