TLMC#5 Submission and finalist!
Hi folks, this is my second TLMC#5 submission, just like Echo, Ganymede borrows a couple ideas from Foxtrot Labs and some Superouman maps, but they are not applied in the same way, four central high ground act as central staging points that have to be fought over like you would in a game of Checkers, Chess or Go, this makes the map highly static in a sense, but that set up also allows for deeper strategies to show up.
I should mention TPW Lunar Colony by SmashHammer, Ganymede steals this tileset, because it is simply awesome, Lunar Colony tileset is one of my favorite tilesets ever, and it would be a crime to not make more maps with it, so yeah, filthy Kantu stealing tilesets from poor old mapmakers hehe.
I hope you folks enjoy the map, I'll probably retouch some parts of the map i'm not entirely happy with in the future, so look forward to Ganymedes RE if I do so!

Small info about the map: + Show Spoiler + § One central Xel'naga tower in lowground that looks over main pathways. § Four central terrain blocks inspired by ideas of later Superouman maps. § Blink stalkers allins are still viable on the map, only weakened by the main base set up. § Given the position of main bases and overall map flow drop play into the main base is strong across the entire game, beware! § Corner pocket bases allow players to hide expansions easily, remember to check those while playing.
Changelog + Show Spoiler +§ Version 1.2 Small aesthetic changes. Removed duplicated doodads. Improved map pathing Fixed small FPS issues.
§ Version 1.1 Fixed a small problem with the Battle.net overview.
§ Version 1.0 Published.
Just like with Echo this time i would like to thank Timmay by helping me with the name! Hmmm I'll probably need to find a book that teaches how one can find good fitting names for one's creations, yeah, that's a good idea.

Stupid second place in the TLMC, now you had to make a thread. hehe Congratulations again, voted for this one. Even if you feel like Echo is superior to it, Ganymede's first 4base layout just felt like the right kind of standard to me. Also I'm interested what the powerful, choked watchtower in the center will add to gameplay.

This map looks so frickin cool, uva; your powers are mighty. Can I ask where the name came from? On it's own it fits with the look and it's super evocative, plus real space location, etc etc, so that's great. But I keep hoping it's also a cowboy bebop reference.

This is probably the map I like the most from you along with Kamala Park. I really hope it ends up on ladder because it looks solid and balanced while having sick terrain features (as well as being goddamn beautiful !).

Love how this map is a mixture of Polar Night and Daybreak

Well this should be kept secret, but when i was a kid playing around the mountains of the Valle Del Elqui the Devil itself showed up to me! The words he told me are etched on my memory, he said "Young kid, make a wish and it will be granted to you, but remember that everything comes for a price" and as the naive little 8 year old children I was, I spoke to him "I wish to snipe all my mapmaking buddies from all the TLMC's in enter to!". And so it was, but just like the Dark Lord promised the price for me to paid was high, this price is that I cannot get the TLMC prices for they will forever be stuck at the Uruguayan Customs.
Regarding the name, I was just very tired and i couldn't come up with a good name, I don't really know if Timmay has ever seen Cowboy Bebop, we were discussing good names, and i wanted something lunar, at the end we arrived at Uranus and i realized that it has some pretty good names. Only after Gany was chosen I realized that it also could be a Cowboy Bebop reference, so that made the name even better.

not impact, just hard texture.

Ganymede is the largest moon of Jupiter. It has a (potentially) liquid ocean that is covered with frozen ice.
But beyond the science, in the sci.fi. book Caliban's War Ganymede (like most of the rest of the solar system) is inhabited by humans and used mainly for science, food production and giving birth to babies. But the moon is attacked by mysterious (and super-OP) space monsters bioengineered from a proto-molecule, that destroyed Eros in the previous book Leviathan. In the carnage where the mosters wreck the human space marines and the following in-base fighting, that involves human vs human fighting (mars-humans vs earth-humans) as well as rampaging monster fights btw, all buildings collapse mostly from bombarbement from space. The carnage completely destroys the base. In the end of the book, Ganymede has to be rebuilt from the rubble to once again become habitable by humans.
Sounds like a perfect theme for a SC2 map to me !!

Hehe, I'm a Astronomy undergrad student so I know about Ganymedes quite well, here's the full story of the name, we had a good list of Moons, I wanted something rocky and with a low% of water to avoid the general idea of the map having hidden secret life forms (Europa, Gany, Enceladus and such) but at the same time it needed to had lots of sand like Earth's Moon, i wanted something arid and desolate/desertic, but first really arid, At the end when we arrived at Uranus and I remember all the names such as Oberon, Ariel, Umbriel and family I just ended up doing a strawpoll that included some Lunar gods such as Komorkis, or Quilla. I really liked Ganymede as a map name, but it had the issues of the high water %, seeing the high return of votes that liked Gany I decided to disregard the water and just go for it.
I'm really not a fan of the whole sci-fi&monsters thing, there are so many interesting things in space and the universe that you don't need to include monsters at all, but yeah... Glad that you enjoyed the map anyways :p
