Many tilesets can be made to look good, but I agree with iGrok, Bel'Shir usually looks bad because it is so easy to make it bearable but really hard to make good (and it is definitely overused), Braxis alpha is also hard to make look good (personally I think Scrap Station is the only map managing to make it look good).
Personally, I use a mix of everything usually, as one tileset often has too many different textures and I prefer to be able to make a more subtle blend of textures:
+ Show Spoiler [Monsoon Valley] +Agria Foliage Aiur Creep Holes Avernus Rock Agria Grass Yellow Mar Sara Panels Haven Grass Haven Dirt Char Dirt Cracked
(Monsoon Valley definitely has the most wacky combination I've used so far, but it works nicely ) + Show Spoiler [Concrete Dreams] +Tyrador Concrete Tyrador Concrete Cracked Tyrador Rubble Port Zion Junk Tyrador Marble Tiles Tyrador Bricks Tarsonis Concrete Tarsonis Grass
+ Show Spoiler [New WIP Map] +Valhalla Dirt Valhalla Cracked Dirt Valhalla Sand New Folsom Sand New Folsom Dirt Cracked Tarsonis Grass Tarsonis Cracks Valhalla Rock

I catalogued the poll options the same way blizzard has catalogued their tilesets. Though Shakuras and Xil are completely different worlds in aesthetics, they are still both wastelands. If you like one, but not the other in the same poll option just vote for it and post your argumentation. The reason I did not opt for all tilesets individually is because there are more tilesets than maximum poll options (12).
I currently mix three types of jungle world grass with Ulaan to create an alien ecosystem in a cave which functions as an 'oasis of lush green and resources' around pools of still dark water, while players are actually on the dry, plain and rocky outskirts of the cave.
Mixing tilesets is great fun, but takes a lot of effort to make them look good.

Shakuras f-ing rocks I think. Imo I did very little work for my last map (LoS_Twilight Peaks) and it looked awesome
Other than that Mar Sara is pretty cool and Char is rather easy, too. Aiur is the most badass jungle, just look at Sanshorn Mists.
But I also agree that every tileset can look good, if you find a way to pull it off.

Oh, sorry I did not include moderated tilesets, only Blizzard ones. I think that HotS will give a new bunch of tilesets though, including ice worlds.

Nifhleim technically is a Blizzard tileset, the files are in the editor by default, however the tileset is not 'enabled' by default.
Much like NullCurrent, rarely if ever (until recently) have I used a pure texture set without modifying it. Most of the sets have a few really nice textures, some OK ones and a few bad ones. The sets that work best untouched are no doubt Bel'Shir, Korhal and Ulaan, right below that I would include Braxis Alpha, Mar Sara, Meinhoff, Monlyth, Shakuras.
Ulnar, Typhon, Haven and Agria are just bad ;x
I think it's for the best that mapmakers mix up textures though, as long as the end result is aesthetically pleasing, and there is a clear theme that fits in to SC2 lore, then the textures used and what sets they'r from is pretty much irrelevant.
For spectators, again, as long as it's not too colourful as to distract from the units and visually looks nice I don't think it matters either.

We saw at least the ice world where Kerrigan get's in contact with those Yeti while fighting off the Protoss. That particular setting seemed clear without burning the eyes (because I am colorblind, I am also extra sensitive to bright lights, I really disliked the Brood War snow terrain for that reason).
I think there should be more than just ice world, but we'll just have to wait and see. Toss unit should be announced today as well (silhouette).

Wastelands... Mar Sara and Xil ftw!

The beaches would be Xil sand.

Agria is my favorite.

Joo so mean =D
Btw almost done getting my newest map worked out. I mixed three types of grass from jungle worlds with Ulaan underground cave to create an alien underground ecosystem. An 'oasis of life' in the middle of a damp lifeless cave.

Although it looks pretty from a distance, I have a feeling it might hurt the eyes a bit on brightness when played in close-up, which is a problem that can occur easily with winter themed tilesets. Fog can fix a lot of that though (notice that in Heart of the Swarm on the iceworld campaign there is a lot of fog and snowstorms that tactically reduce the brightness, I wonder if that's on purpose :D).
