Interview with ScT-HoRRoR
1. Congratulations on your win! Did you expect to win?
I was very unsure about the match. I didn't play since the TSL has ended but then I became an email about my successful qualification for the TSL. I trained like 4 hours to get back from my short inactivity. But i didnt think that it was enough train. After all I was a bit lucky with his builds and so I won the bo3.

2. How did you practice for the Longinus game, and how did it play out?
As I said I hadn't much time to train anything special but Longinus is around for a long time and I played like 200 and more games on it. So I just had to refresh my speed and standarts.

3. Did your win in the first game influence your play in the second?
I played more confident and relaxed. I was a bit lucky that he played an offgate because I can play better vs such a strat than vs a macroprotoss on bluestorm. I often underestimate the ramps and lose the games for this reason.

4. Who have you been practicing with to prepare for these games?
My clanmates.

5. You used quite similiar builds in both the games, was this because of the maps or the opponent? Was it your plan to use the same strategy twice to throw him off guard or did just work out that way?
I like vultures very much and I'm able to control them well so I'm playing them quite often. Both times the maps in combination with my opponents tactics were deciding to play that tactic. I haven't seen this floating fax by another player so I though he might not know that tactic and his base was unguarded because of his offgate.

1. Congratulations on your win! Did you expect to win?
Until yesterday I didn't expect to win at all. Then I found a nice build on Blue Storm (thx nony) And I practiced that vs a couple of good T's so I was happy with that. I was fairly happy with Longinus map, and I really should have changed my build after we had to regame [there was a disc game 1 after 5 minutes with no major advantage] and he'd seen how awesome my start was but that will teach me a lesson.

Game 3 I wasn't planning on going reavers but I knew it would work. You can always rely on the trusty reavers. So yeah, I was sort of 50/50 on whether i would win or not. Fortunately he was tired and pretty much handed me the match when he quit the third one.

2. How did you practice for the Longinus game, and how did it play out?
Yeah I practiced the most for Longinus, mainly because I needed to improve my macro a lot. (read above for more info on how it played). I saw he hadn't CC'd either and I just did nothing, I think if I had my zeal and goon at my base instead of at my 2nd exp I would have been fine but oh well. 1 and 3 were meant to just be pure macro builds, but it didn't turn out like that.

3. Did your win in the first game influence your play in the second?
No. My bluestorm build had worked well in practice so it didn't change at all.

4. How did you feel going into the deciding game? When did you know you had won?
Same as any other game, there was no more pressure or anything. I knew I'd won when he left the game midway through. He was tired or upset or something.

5. Who have you been practicing with to prepare for these games?
I didn't know the maps at all, so most of my early prac was just looking at reps to see what protoss does, and to see what terran do (much more important). Then when i had a few vague ideas played a bit with some terrans like artosis and assem, but mostly on ICCUP vs random terrans. Playing lots fo different people is good, as they all do something different which reminds you what to look out for.

1. Congratulations on your win! Did you expect to win?
Thx. Yeap

2. How did you practice for the Longinus game, and how did it play out?
I have been training with Advokate ,he was playing standart m+m ,and only one game he used galls and tanks where he totaly raped me like spx
need to practice more vs such style...

3. Did your loss in the first game influence your play in the second?
Yes. In second game I started to play more carefully.

4. How did you feel going into the deciding game?
With thoughts that I need only a victory

When did you know you had won?
When my lurks borrowed right in front of his bunker.

5. Who have you been practicing with to prepare for these games?
A2 (Advokate)

6. Your two Hatch Mutalisk on Zodiac was very aggressive. Why did you decide to use it on this map?
1st of all because of close locations and also to prevent he`s metal style ^^

7. Your opponent used a metal build on Longinus. Did this catch you off guard? Do you think you would win if you replayed that match?
I don't actually know the right counter vs such style but I think I was doing right things, only micro mistakes were the reason of such a fast loss. The only thing I believe is that the game would be much longer if we replayed it.

1. Congratulations on your win! Did you expect to win?
Thx. I was quite inactive again when TSL ladder had closed.. I played like 5 games to warm up but I felt pretty sure about the win

2. How did you practice for the Longinus game, and how did it play out?
I played a lot of games on Longinus, trained different strats (fast range, fe, reaver) and I had a feeling that my 2 gate goons will be nice and as u can see it was the right choice.

3. Did your win in the first game influence your play in the second?
I think not, I loose like 75% of games on bluestorm so I knew I would lost there

4. What do you think caused you loss on Blue Storm?
Probably when i lost like 10 probes on 1 mine ^^ I was clicking somewhere else and just saw the explosion (lol ^^).. I think I could make faster recalls and much more gates. EX played very well on that map so its probably the main reason of my loss

5. How did you feel going into the deciding game? Were you scared fighting 2 Factories with only 1 Gateway? When did you know you had won?
I was quite nervous at that game but not scared I have trust in my goon micro so I was sure I will defend that 1st push.. I knew I had won when he lost almost all scv's to my reaver while I killed all his army at my natural

6. Who have you been practicing with to prepare for these games?
Frankly I haven't been pracitising for this games I played like 10 games with Idra during the TSL ladder.. I can say that TSL had prepared me.

Congratulations on your win! Did you expect to win?
I think i knew that it will be tough games , and the best will win
i didn't expect to win 100%

Your psy storms drops were efffective in all three games. Was this something you had practiced alot for iG.sky?
No , i always use psi -storm drops against almost all races , but especially versus zerg, because it helps to win game very much. And Sky has mass meat style
so psi-storm drops hurt a lot

In the first match you managed to take out your opponent's main base quite early. Were you confident you had won at this point?
the first game was on longinus and i have pretty good win ratio against Z there , i was confident that i will win

How did you feel going into the deciding game? When did you know that you had won it?
when went out from the base and killed his exp on 10 , destroying all his army

Who have you been practicing with to prepare for these games?
i have played about 5-7 games against Mondragon and Squall @ longinus , and 2 games vs Notforu @ Zodiac
that was all my prepare for this match :/
didn't practice BLue storm at all , so it isn't surprise to me that i lost on it

Ok. Well congratulations on your win and we will see you in the next round!
ok thank you

Interview with fuSion.Rondo
1. Congratulations on your win! Did you expect to win?
Thanks. Really I wasn't confident in my PvT. On the whole I appreciated my chances ~ 60/40. By the way, the same cipher as in gosubet.

2. How did you practice for the Longinus game, and how did it play out?
I viewed replays of HanDy. I analyzed his style and played counter strategy, but HanDy at that game played without any mistakes, so I lost. It's a little bit strange, because exactly at Longinius I wanted to take a win.

3. Did your loss (4 Factory timing attack) in the first game influence your play in the second?
I was dissapointed, not as much of losing at first map, as big lags. It's very hard to play aggressive strategies with these delays (lag), that suit a Terran in the first place. Anyway I took one self in hand.

4. How did you feel going into the deciding game?
I was strongly nervous. I don't remeber any game with such thrilling in online matches. While my opponent has speaken by phone, I've relaxed. (Note: Handy took a few minutes to answer a phone call) It helped me, thanks HanDy !

5. Who have you been practicing with to prepare for these games?
I've trained with my teammates-terrans. Blue storm I trained with fuSion.spx, and Longinus with fuSion.Josu. Thanks a lot them, they truly helped me!

6. The last game was pretty close, your 2nd expansion was killed fast and Handy's Tanks were in your main base when you were attacking with carriers. When did you think you would win?
Last game was amazing. I made some mistakes at the beginning and was into awful situation. When my expos and minerals ended, I thought about leaving the game... but some power made me to check Handy's goliath control. So, he couldn't read at this and surrendered. I will remember this game a long time, as the most exciting and important game in my life.

1. In the first game you had a very interesting build. What was your motivation for this build? Did you immediately know that you could beat Lzgamer with this?
Sometimes u need to do some unexpected things. Its common when a protss stars with 2 rax that map and after going an expansion. Casual games zerg put 3 hatchery going lurkas. I killed his scout so i can do something he would not expect - early mutas

2. In the first game your opponent opened two gate. Did this surprise you given typcial Protoss fast expand and how did you change your planned build at all?
my planned build was casual but once i saw 2 gate i had to play more safer.

3. How did you feel going into the second game? Were you confident?
Second game was longer and hareder beacasue of the map. Blue storm its the map i dont want to playu =)

4. When did you think you had won the second match?
I never think like that "Yes im already won" in a serious games. I try hard until ppl say GG or i say same. U cant understimate your opponts skills if u want a win

5. Who did you practice with to prepare for these games?
Today im a bit tired of regular practice so the best pracice for me its nogames for a couple of days. I played 2 games vs temu for his match vs SKy and today 3 games vs RA Iccup cl using 2 maps of TSl mappool. As i said the best practice for me is a rest for a couple of days - then i have mitovation to play.

1. How were you feeling going into this match against ZpuX?
Well... i was nervous cause the conection problems, and i was coming from another tournament. thats was i got late to the channel. but i have confidence in me !

Your first match was on Longinus. Did you prepare a build for your opponent and did it go the way you expected?
no, i believe i start playing as he expected, but i change to a strat that i almost never use, i believe my experience help me cause i control myself and won

In the second game you went 3 hatch hydra and it was a close game. At what point did you think you had won the game?
when he wrote "GG" ! it was a really close game.

Yes it was. Who have you been practicing with to prepare for these games?
i play with jf and Iccup with my smurf trying to be rank A, but i didn't play with many protoss

Did your win on Longinus give you confidence to beat your opponent?
or did you want to take it one step at a time

one step at a time

Well congratulations on your win and we will see you in the next round of TSL qualifiers!
thank for the interview and go go go

TSL Qualifiers Round 1 Day 1 is over! Check back tomorrow to see what happens in the rest of the matches.

Personally I thought Skew wasn't that far behind in Game 3 of their series, and Leg got a bunch of bugged scarabs there too. Skew's play in Game 1 was flawless, but he was just a big late on scouting the carriers in Game 2. I haven't seen the Horror/Dunaj reps yet but I will watch them when I get the chance.

So when do the bo5's start and at what point are players qualified for the next round of tsl?

Whoever Dunaj was, he really got skewered by that proxy fact..twice...OUCH.

In game three I was surprised skew just left so quickly after scouting the left expo. I mean c'mon, could've at least given a fight..it is a tournament after all.

Skew vs Leg was good! awesome reaver usage as usual from leg!

Dunaj vs Horror wasn't very good
I was a bit disappointed that dunaj didn't try and beat horror with a standard build the second game.

Horror quite outclassed Dunaj there. On Bluestorm Dunaj proxied him in a very obvious spot (at the min only) and was scouted right away. On Longinus, that proxy fac made Dunaj's life miserable. Both short and one-sided rapes.

i think leg vs skew was ok.. great play by both no doubt but the games themselves weren't great. Skew quit in game 3 and game 2 he didnt scout carrier so he quit then too really.. sad

well at least skew didn´t quit before the games like Testie did
btw the mine that destroyed a bunch of tanks at the end of game 2 was a legit reason to quit right away imo ^^

For me such proxy rushs arent that bad. Then you see early some micro action and love mines vs drags. But yeah maybe a bit to short games.

I think too Skew was a bit upset / disappointed cause of that mine explosion? In Game 2 he still got his eco working and could have pumped goliaths? Game 3 he wasnt finished at all too.

Hmm, the Alf vs. spx games were not that exciting either. Game 1 was pure buildorder win, game 2 and 3 he got rather raped.

Lol, I actually missed the moment when all the tanks exploded as I was watching the replay. When I saw all the tanks were gone I was like "WTF?".

Nice games from Alf

I really thought Alf was going to win the first one though, that double gas exp is so good for mass muta.

Game 2 looked funny too, perfect overlord scout just as 2 starports starts, thats pretty gg right there

I actually thought game 2 horror vs dunaj was decent, dunno how horror saved himself from the dts, I found that to be quite amazing.
Great to see leg advance, although skew seems to be a funny guy as well.

Coming up:

3D.Temujin < Bo3 > iG.sky
LG)HanDy < Bo3 > fuSion.Rondo
MYM.Dreiven < Bo3 > RoX.EX

Can't wait for these, especially Dreiven vs EX!

Dreiven vs Ex should be the match of the day, I agree.
Especially after the disappointing games of Skew and Leg.

TSL coverage = awesome!

3rd game Leg vs Skew, it was so obvious to Skew that a reaver was coming, but even with this knowledge, Leg managed to easily outplay him. And what a macro!

Yep TL staff doing great work so far.
The 3d game Alf vs spx was a bit weak you must say.

Dunaj played terrible, so much below his usual level. Leg vs Skew was a bit better, leg lost the 1st game due to rather bad decision making, but dominated his opponent in the remaining games.

Hmm deus, how serious were you commentating on the third game? It has been up for a while in the replay section under http://teamliquid.net/replay/download.php?replay=1014 and is just a filler for the third replay, in order not to create a spoiler.

sigh

ex lost to 2 gate range game 1 cause he fucked up on repair/tank pos.

game 2 was nice but dreiven went arb/ground on bs which is uneducated to say the least for that map.

game 3 hidden carriers and ex taps out despite superior macro.. he just wasnt prepared -.-

sky vs temu was gg's

game 1 was fairly nice, standard with some sneaky zeas doing too much damage for sky to recover

game 2 was great.. i think it should have been a draw but i dunno. Temu was losing and had no money for scarabs so MAYBE if there was enough defiler it could have been for sky, gg though.

game 3 was nice, just dominant storm drops/map control and the z drained himself out.

handy vs rondo was actually nice.. game 1 was a repeat of leg/skew

game 2 had some nice maneuvres but I think handy committed too much with the mid push and was unable to match the macro so when it cracked it was all for not

game 3 was great, really nice game but the secret carrier tech once again turned the tides. Even then I think handy shoulda won but rondo was smart to devide and conquer.

oh.. you make goliaths with range as oppose to tank/vult for the non existant ground army.

Yes his macro was hurt, hardly in "shambles." And he was making more vult/tanks cause he didnt see carriers hence my point.

You know much more about starcraft than I do, but plz rewatch that game and tell me again that he would have won with more goliaths instead of vultures. Even without goliaths he lost the ground battles. Dreiven had 200 vs 130 supply.

Where in the fuck did I say anything about ex winning? I just gave the reason for why he lost.. I would never tell you ex would win had he magically manifested 20 more gols without having to pay for them.

I think game 2 ended too early though, he should at least have tried to hold that last base where the last resources of the maps were

agreed.. i think it coulda been a draw. Sky had 300 minerals and nowhere to mine with a scraggly force killing the main.

Yeah that game was pretty close because of the DT. I think if dunaj could have held back some units to push with the DT, or some how taken care of the vultures with the probes he could have had it.

wtf ex played retarded the last game vs dreiven.

All those hidden cc's /expoes and he still got outmacroed by pointlessly being aggressive and getting squashed by a 2 base protoss.

Cocky maybe..but that was a pain to watch.

poor defense to those reavers as well..

- While we appreciate the sentiment and meaning behind his words, it is quite clear that he has hacked within the past year, as recently as February 2008. This violates the policy of the TSL of hacking within the past year so TT1 will be disqualified and removed from the TSL. -

can someone from the TSL team give an answer how haypro can play but TT1 and rest of the ppl can't? Normal question.. i have nothing against haypro, i want him to play coz this rule makes no sense, the best players should play, it is not important what they did in the past, it is important how they play in TSL... obviously they can be top48 without hack so rule is ridiculus.. but it is your league and your rules...

soooo...

i'm just curious, rule is here and haypro is here.. how? anyone?

Gerpu, this is not the right thread to discuss that in, and it's been discussed many times. Simply put, the Haypro was only caught hacking in one game in which he was the obs. This is clearly different from hacking with the intent of giving yourself an unfair advantage (and being caught in multiple games). With that said, if you want to discuss this topic anymore, go to the appropriate thread. Discussing it here will most probably result in a ban.

both of castro zpux's games were nice..

zpux had game 2 but he divided his army a couple times and just wasted stuff. Allowing castro to get 12 cost him too.. he had a bigger bank and more to mine but castro had the carrot and was able to drain zpux on it.

great games! valiant effort zpux! No shame.

He is dangerous!

Anyways I just want a good series gl both!

I seriously love watching foreign Zergs play. Mondragon, Sen (before he turned gay and went Protoss), XiaOzI, CaStrO, Notforu..they're all so much fun to watch I loved CaStrO's games in these Qualifiers, I hope he goes far in the League

I also enjoyed how Mondragon won 99% of his TSL Ladder ZvP's with overpool into 12 speedling runby into eventual doom drop. Sick.

IIRC, Castro plays some impressive Savior management-zerg that impresses even some of the better players around here.

Congrats to everyone who's made it past the qualifiers so far. GL to all who haven't yet.

I thought it was a fun move by spx in his first game on Longinus when he lifted his CC to stop the muta harass at his natural. I don´t know if it helped so much, but it made me smile. He let the CC land again right before his scvs came back, so that the transition was very smooth.

Really sucks to be fusion.Rondo (P) in his game against LG)HanDy (T). Losing to the same cheese twice

Wouldn't be suprising if every Protoss lost at least 1 game to that considering they all do early Goon pressure

legionaire, you are a legend. thanks for giving me such a great sunday morning.

still, i wonder why skew quit the third game so early. sure, the reaver harrass was annoying, but not decisive or anything. i felt they were almost on equal grounds. the second game gave me a bit of confidence that leg will do quite well in the upcoming stages. cant wait!

I also enjoyed how Mondragon won 99% of his TSL Ladder ZvP's with overpool into 12 speedling runby into eventual doom drop. Sick.

notforu's zvt is mad fun to watch

Really sucks to be fusion.Rondo (P) in his game against LG)HanDy (T). Losing to the same cheese twice

Wouldn't be suprising if every Protoss lost at least 1 game to that considering they all do early Goon pressure

Am I reading this wrong? Rondo won the Bo3

Today I saw Zpux vs Castro. Besides that Castro seem to be very strong I thing one of the major problem of Zpux was his permanent observer losing. Most of the time he got only 1 obs with his army and then it was killed mostly by the first scourge attack. Sometimes he walked a period of time completly without.

On Bluestorm he had a big chance as Castro was playing and upgrading hydralisks but then failed and lost many to storms. Then he switched to lurkers and cause of that obs less army he could hold zpux off in the middle and had the time to involve lings and ultras again.

Zpux split his army way too often. He had the advantage in both games at one point and lost it due to his bad army management.

ZpuX bad macro queuing many units, still money left over, and not claiming more expansions when he can and should. in both games

Castro has a sick sick style, reminds me of savior, always having enough units to defend. Just the right amount of units, hold till ultra then rape <3 Castro

the reality behind that is that he has no chance to win this tournament and that was the excuse.

After reading that, he seems more like a jackass. Not that he wasn't already. He would ruin it for the admin and the opponent. Imagine his opponent practice several days to play against Testie's race (it's not really random) then on game day told he has to play a different opponent against a different race. Then there is the 49th place player who couldn't participate because Testie took that spot.

TSL completely ruined LB for me. I just have no idea who all those guys are and have no time to watch replays of their play to measure their skill.
This is disgusting.

Liquibet I'm guessing.
