Are there too many SC2 events?

I think it's to early to judge really. Having a rather of "surplus" of tournaments for myself is a good thing for the community. Although, I can't keep track of it, it offers everyone amazing entertainment all day long. However, I don't really know how big it should get. The bigger it gets, the more competition will arise, which means that more tournaments will fail. So, it's really hard to judge early on whether or not it will be good for the community and for people aspiring to be large tournament hosts/casters. I think the real problem in the community is that there is not enough new blood which tournaments like NASL and IPL are trying to fix.

It's a cliché answer by now, but it really is a good problem to have. There miiight be too many, but it definitely encourages the leagues / streams to try and take the upper hand on certain aspects of the game (production value, big-name players, large prize pools) to win over the viewership, and that's exciting to me.

For me, at least, the more events that keep popping up, the less I'm interested in all of them as a whole. I feel like they are diluting each other the more I try to keep up with them. That's why the OSL, MSL, and Proleague playoffs are so much more special. Each of them only happen about 2-3 times a year and that's it.

I guess it's good for the game as a whole, though.

I want two answers.

Theres sure as shit more tournaments and stuff than I could possibly follow but it just means you can pick and choose what you want to watch. Wouldnt call it too much starcraft!

You know there's too many events when you look at the sidebar and TSL is buried under like seven other random tournament streams o_O

But when the sponsors hear that LoL gets 200k stream viewers, one wonders how long some of these SC2 events can last. In the same way that Korean progaming became a collaboration between only two broadcasters, SC2 events will inevitably consolidate. It would be absurd if the "growth of esports" meant a monotonically increasing number of leagues.

I really only watch the major events anyways, and only the top 8 or so of those; so going by science-- the more events the better!

I think the number that we have right now is great. Between GSL / NASL / IPL / MLG / Dreamhack + various other major tournaments every few months I always find myself with something to watch. I believe that if there were many more events then most of the top players would have to pick and choose between events, and also may not have enough time to practice and prepare properly for certain events with travel time / jet lag etc. constantly being an issue with more events. The last thing that I want is for a top player to be 'slumping' just because they are constantly traveling from place to place and can never sit down to really crack down on improving gameplay and strategies to stay at the top.

the number of events is ok, particularly majors. i'd prefer some of the straight knockouts in smaller tourneys to be binned in favour of swiss tourneys though

The more the better, but I have a hard time keeping track of all of them.
Few big events for the überpros, loads of small events for us less gifted.

More = better. Sure, you miss many good events, but if they are great, you hear about it afterwards, and may watch VODs etc. This way you get automatically selected for you the best out of a large pool, which gives more opportunity to novel models for esports events.

The more the better i would say, you don't need to keep track of every event. It's like saying there are to many leagues in football. You only watch thoose you think are the most delighting.

The more the better, ofc? Then you can choose for yourself what you find to be most interesting and what to keep track of.
