I dont know how one can remember such things really, i stumbled upon it at some point in the past, i dont remember how and why. However i joined only recently because i wasn't interested in bw a whole lot, i just knew that TL was the place to go if i ever picked that game up... which i never did.

Other: An online friend told me. He didn't outright just tell me about it though, when I asked him questions he would often give me links to TL strat forum threads.

Always been aware of the Korean pro scene and decided one day to check things out in 2007. Googled 'Starcraft forums' I think. Fun fact: I actually read up the old (now removed) articles section first.

My friend sent me replays of Boxer long time ago. I decided to search online for more games from Boxer and got onto http://boxerforever.com/ which had links to TeamLiquid.

So it was sort of like IRL Sent Replays --> Search Engine --> Website --> TL Link

I first learned of the site around when SC2 was getting it's first inklings of info, back in 2007. I was looking for more info on the game, due to how endlessly excited I was about the idea. I didn't start regularly reading until the first GOM tournament, somewhere in the middle of it. My general tendency to lurk kept me from making an account until I decided I had something to say (I later retracted and didn't post it, and continued to lurk)

When SC2 was first announced, I was pretty excited about it. I surfed the web looking for any info I could get about it, and that's when I came upon... sc2gg.com

Several months later, I'd read enough about TL on that site to give it a shot, see if it was any good. I never looked back.

I used to scour the web, looking for advice on build orders in Brood War just so that I could beat my friends. I discovered TL, and not only did I find the pinnacle of strategic discussion, but volumes of content about the professional scene, which I immediately got hooked on. I also discovered iCCup through TL.

Found TL through Google, when I was younger (and when all my friends were still playing StarCraft), I wanted to beat my friends and random people online so I went jumped online and looked up some strategies. To be honest my first StarCraft site was something called StarCraft University, it was there that I learnt about build orders/micro/macro/etc. But the site would go up and down from time to time so I found other sites (such as this). A few years later my friend told me about the Korean scene and how hardcore they are about StarCraft, naturally I jumped back on the web to search for it and it lead me to TL again and that's when I stopped looking at other StarCraft sites. 1 year later I would register after realising this is the best fucking website in the world and here I am today.

Kind of other, I got into SC1 spectating with GOM all-star invitational that Pholon introduced me to, as well as another IRL friend. From there at first I didn't like TL that much cos of all the unnecessary crap lol but then then I learned to love it after putting a bit of effort in because Pholon always linked good threads to me ;D

When I bought Starcraft in mid-to-late 2009, I asked on GameFAQs if there were any places that could helpme improve my game, and I was redirected here.

I wanted to know what "Micro" and "Macro" meant when I started playing (people elsewhere kept using the terms and I didn't know what they meant). So I looked up "micro macro starcraft" on Google and saw a link to the TL wiki, which seemed to be the only place that actually explained it.

I ended up spending several hours reading the wiki and fell in love with it, learning more than I ever thought I could learn about the game. Made an account and never left.

An intern at my office seemingly did no work, but he'd play SC:BW, sit in IRC, and have this website open all the time. I checked it out once, but didn't do much with it. Once I heard about the SC2 beta, it was the first logical place for me to visit. Been coming hardcore since.

Back when I actually played StarCraft in 2005, a friend recommended I save replays and watch them to improve. I was curious to find replays of people better than me, so I entered something like "starcraft replays" into Google, and TL was one, if not the first, hit.

It was actually funny. I started to watch Baezzi's channel a lot right after SCII announcement and there was that guy going by the nick teamliquidsucks that was always trashing everybody's comments, complaining about everyone's posts, etc. So I thought that if that guy hated TeamLiquid so much, it had to be an awesome site!!!

I think I started off watching commentaries of bw promatches, and then through searching out terminology/build orders finally found TL.

Then I lurked for a year+ before finally joining

Gosugamers. It was my site for foreigner replays and tourney coverage. When I started getting more interested in the korean scene I realized TL was a lot better for that and switched over. Must have been 2 or 3 years ago now.

Going back further... I came across Gosugamers when I googled something like "starcraft strategy". I was getting interested in low money ever since I saw a youtube video of Nada and realized just how deep this game was. Before I saw the Nada vid I played UMS on and off for a few years. Got really into Diplomacy 7.7. Before THAT my Broodwar cd was collecting dust for several years since I had bought it near when it came out and played the campaign briefly.

Oh and before THAT I was sort of into Age Of Empires... I guess it was my RTS gateway drug. TBH I think my mom might have seen a good AoE review and bought it for me, so in a roundabout way my sc addiction is all her fault. ^_^

I actually came to TL through Team Areola (now sadly gone), which I had found while searching for a place to download replays.

Replays were the main reason I stayed around TL, too. I believe I spent more time watching those than I did playing. : x
Think. :)

There was a link to something on TL on broodwar.de, I don't remember what it was about though. This is when I first learned about TL. Must have been early in 2003. I didn't come back to TL for a few months after that and then stumbled on it again. Lurked for a few more months and then signed up towards the end of '03.

I first found GosuGamers via Google and joined up. On their forums, they mentioned Teamliquid often in various contexts. Just about everyone held a grudge against sucky TL and its stupid, power-hungry mods because they were banned. "Unfairly" of course. One day I collected the courage to venture to the dangerous and mysterious realm of Teamliquid anyway. I completely abandoned GosuGamers soon after.

I don't really know anymore. Maybe through some post on bwcl or pgt or blizzforums or bwmn. Maybe someone on bnet dropped me a hint. I knew about this place a long time before I actually started visiting here more frequently.

I quite certainly didn't find TL via Youtube/Search Engine/IRL friend (I am still struggling to get more people around me to play SC/SC2)/TL Event. Maybe a website link, but I normally ignore those.
If you have a good reason to disagree with the above, please tell me. Thank you.

Well, here's the story. I first played SCBW in 2007 or 2008. I had a friend who had two legal copies of BW and he gave me one of them. I played the campaign and that was about it. About that time I saw some of the first SC2 videos, so obviously, I was excited about SC2. After I completed the BW campaign, I didn't play anymore.

Then, one day a friend called me up after he had been watching the arirang (Korea's global TV channel) and he said something like, "wow, that funny game you played a while back was on tv!?!" So, I kept an eye on arirang and watched the next match. I still remember that it was a PvT on zodiac in the GOM (pretty sure it was GOM) tournament. So, of course, I was blown away. All the "genius" ideas like zealot bombing and stuff were pretty much overloading my brain. So after I finished watching the game I called up my friend (who had re-watched it too) and we talked for about 20 minutes. Now I wanted to play again.

My friend and I played when we could and eventually we got a wee bit better. Competition finally drove me to do some goole searches to learn some strategies (I used to do some google searches for "advanced" SSBM stuff). I found a few weird sites that were pretty much really vague and general, but they still helped (remember, I was REALLY bad at this point).

It is worth noting that at this point I was still really just waiting for SC2 to come out.

Then I kept watching pro games and started looking for replays and more strategies. Eventually I found TL.net via a google search, but I didn't really know what I had stumbled upon at the time. I just used the site basics and looked at the "Recommended Threads" thread which was of great help to me at the time. I continued to play and watch more games and I often returned to TL.net for help with strategies and for replays. I have watched every replay posted on Teamliquid since early 2009.

I joined TL in mid 2009 after about a year of lurking.

Then everything kind of switched around in my head. I started to care less about SC2. I still will probably enjoy the game and will follow it, but I really realized that SCBW was something very, very special. Sort of a "once-in-a-lifetime" kind of thing. As long as TL is around I hope to be here, and I hope that they keep up with posting SCBW reps.

Cheers.

This is so long ago now I barely remember how. I am gonna go with search engine, back then I was looking for ladders and info about starcraft strategy. I stumbled upon something called "progaming" and discovered that my favorite game had a MASSIVE fanbase and was even somewhat of a national sport in an entire country. This I thank TeamLiquid. This site has everything you need to know about starcraft, and much more.

I came first to this website because of some replay of NaDa or something. Saw it on another esports-related site. Then I didn't visit for ages, and now I'm back and registered and all.

Google, WCG was in Singapore and fOru won. Googling him led to Boxer, which more or less led me here. Only started visiting with some degree of regularity a few years back, though.

I think I watched Savior versus Bisu with Day[9] and Nony commentating it and when the video ended it had this huge Teamliquid banner. I googled it after and I've stayed ever since.

When the rumors starting coming in that SC2 would be announced I wanted to get back into SC again. I wanted to find out whats been going on with the scene so I looked up some old websites I frequented. I tried Broodwar.com which no longer existed, and battlereports.com hasn't been updated in forever. So I tried remembering old famous clans to see if they had websites still, and after some googling I came across TL.

I found it through reading the SC2 Beta forums, there was the occasional link back here. Saw this community and started lurking, thinking "Hey, these guys actually know what they're talking about and don't like pointless whine."

Only really started posting now though :o

I was googling some BW vods and stumbled upon the TL torrent tracker. I downloaded one of the first TL:A episodes (either with Nony or Incontrol, cant remember) and was absolutely charmed by the soft voices and witty comments from Chill and HotBid. I checked out the forum and got sucked in immediately.

I stumbled upon the Pimpest Plays videos at sclegacy and I was ridiculously impressed with Boxer's play and wanted to find more games and stuff about it, and when I realized just how much larger the Korean proscene was compared to what I thought it was before, I was hooked. Made an account fairly early, but didn't post for a pretty long time.

I started to watch broodwar vids maybe three years ago, but not that much (no idea how that happened though...). Then I saw the sAviOr vs Firebathero serie commented by Klazart, watched more vids, wanted to see what the maps looked liked, stumbled on TPLD... Didn't realize exactly what I had seen, but I came back regularly without checking the forums (too intimidated I guess). And a few months later, needing more depth etc, I started to lurk here. Greatest idea ever (and I'm pretty proud it's not because of SC2 :p )
(thanks to the guys who said "thanks to a hate thread on battle.net forum", I had a great laugh)

I got really into Starcraft 64, so much so that I wanted to see some highlight videos or something. That led me to Boxer's "God in the TV" and Nal ra's "Magician" video, which led to "Pimpest Plays", which led to SCLegacy, and I somehow ended up here, though I didn't really visit or join for another couple years. My first time at a forum left me confused.

Stumbled in from various links in late 2002 and then started lurking in january 2003. After a while I joined. I kinda waited since I considered myself to be inferior to the other posters here when it came to skill. Funny enough I joined after I quit competitive BW. At the time there were pretty much only really good players here.

I suck pretty hard at BW so I would observe a lot of games. During one game, another observer talked about the GOMTV tournament (Way back in Season 1, when it was still alive). I watched every match after that and after hearing Tasteless plug this site like 10 times I figured I should probably check it out. I've been coming here every day since then :D

EDIT: Wow, after reading some of the other comments I guess I'm not the only one

Then I went to sc2gg.

I remember on sc2gg there was a guy who made some videos about teamliquid sucks.

That's how I discovered teamliquid.

I used to browse random livestream channels looking for people who play videogames, and I ended up watching a lot of LzGamer / ret / skyryoo / shauni / oystein / gretorp / kawaiirice... can't remember who else. They were always the most viewed streams on the front page, and i soon realized it's because of TL, so I came to check it out.

heard about TL from tasteless mentioning it in his first ever gom casts

god those were some of his best casts thinking about it, he always got sooo excited i loved it, in season 3 though it almost seemed like he was bored with the whole thing

I found TL cause in BW I was good friends w/ Tsunami/Testie, and before BW (aka reg SC1) I used to play Nazgul a lot in ladder.

Diggity, Klazart, Rise, and Cholera...man I miss those guys.
Personally though, I've only really been visiting TL now that I'm playing SC2. Before beta, I spectated SC1 a lot, but didn't play or visit the forums.
But now this place is beginning to feel like home.

The first pro starcraft event I ever watched was the 2006 WCG grand finals (I forget how I found it) , with tasteless commentating, and he mentioned TL. I didn't make an account right then, but that's how I found it.

Back in 2005, when I first got into SC, I was googling replays and couldn't figure out how to play them. I recall trying to open the replay files with Windows Media Player lol. Then I ran across this site called Team Areola, and I think there I read something about TL, and voila, here I am now.

Pretty sure it was a search engine, but it's hard to remember. I just know I started lurking the site back in 2002 and used it to follow the pro scene. By 2003 I wasn't really playing much SC anymore and stopped visiting. Eventually came back in 2006 and started to lurk again until I decided to make an account a couple years ago.

I don't remember it at all (my original ID has it's registration date at 2008, I think?) I voted Search engine though, as I can see myself going:

Korean "Hmm, actually I wonder how well off Starcraft is in English regions. *click* whooooa" or something like that.

Liquibition created a buzz on battle.net and on the WGT site, so it was hard not to know about teamliquid back then. I didn't register until the "Who is mensrea?" poll was out (Feb. '03), though.

Somewhat similar. I put website link, but really I found TL through playing SC with a multigaming community that my dad was a semi-admin of.

Many many years ago when I would google for "Starcraft Strategies". I remember the only MIR posts I saw were frozen arbiter so I assumed he was owner of the site. Then I drifted from sc s bit and when I came back I made an account
seriously next disrespectful comment in this blog is ip ban. Be happy or get the hell out. // SC2 is like playing with neutral-colored Play-Doh while BW is like colorful Legos.

Jan 2008, saw a link on SA to gom invitational. watched all of those games, enthralled. I had never seen starcraft before.

Watched random youtube english casts, and one of the commentators mentioned TL. Lurked here, following the Korean leagues, and eventually created an account earlier this year.

Back in the Brood War days some clan members told me about all the great discussion going on these boards. Being the newb that I was back then, I was a long-time lurker but never posted. I then played Starcraft less over the next couple of years (2006-2009) and only started coming back here when the SC2 beta was announced. I decided that this time around, I should start posting, at least a little.

I've used gosugamers.net for 2 years, and always found that a lot of users are retarded, especially in the news comments. The forum structure and interface is terrible. I remember browsing TL a few times because a friend told me it was good, but I tought wtf this website is so ugly, and kept using gg.net for a while.

Then I realized how good TL was, how perfect was the korean pro-scene coverage, how I could browse TLPD for hours, and how people on TL were a lot smarter. I admit I don't like SC2 and the thousands of new forums users, but I still love TL, and I love to read LRs while I'm in office (even if SuperArc is constantly spamming pro-CJ bullshit haha)

PS : I love the new stuffs to hide/show forums. Thanks coders !

I watched GomTV Star Invitational 2 or so years ago, Tasteless kept talking about it. I was never really into playing BW myself, just followed the korean scene a little bit. Mostly just hung out on irc though, didn't register until a few months back because of SC2. I love it here even if I'm not contributing very much. This community is awesome <3

I could get a more coherent article by gluing a Sharpie to a dog's cook and letting it hump the page.

Friend linked to Hyungjoon because it was hilarious, and I got hooked.

I'd been here before, lurking and checking out replays (found because you're referenced in many of the best English commentaries), but registered for HBaP (and now Oldboy).

Back when I was searching for more korean pro-replays with english commentary. I got gom tv and from there tasteless reffered to "team liquid" alot in his thanks for foreign support during his casts. I believe about the 3rd time he thanked TL during a series replay that I got curious and googled it.

Jeremy "teh_ownerer" from PurePwnage.com made a blog post about JF's dominance with his shuttle reaver play in the first TSL.

this was my first taste of "professional" starcraft and it absolutely blew my mind. TL then of course turned me on to the korean scene, Gom and Tasteless was also a huge help.

I will forever be greatful to TL, the TSL, and tasteless for introducing me to this quite real sport of starcraft.

I learned of Teamliquid in late 2002, after a 2v2 game on good old USWest against Excalibur_Z. I remember asking him why he floated his buildings in front of his army, and learned that tanks can shoot farther than they can see. Even back then I thought this was a pretty active forum with high quality posts.

Once upon a time, I was watching sc vids on jon747's channel. One day on his main channel page, he had a video "Jon left teamliquid.net" and a whole explanation why he did.
I was so confused. What was TL? Why did this take priority over a cool sc intro? Then I slowly made myself here

I first got in touch with the Korean scene thx to the GomTV Star Invitational, which kindled my love for BW as a spectator sport, and fell in love with TL shortly thereafter thx to the Razor TSL.

So, I owe a lot to Tasteless, and the entire TSL staff.

PS: I just found my TL Winged Horse shirt in the mail 30 minutes ago.

It's been 4 years since I've joined Teamliquid, and I just can't for my life remember how I actually came across this forums. I think it might be an online friend who either gave me a thread in this website or.. Starcraft pro-gaming news in which I was interested in signing up and joining the community. Interesting development since then.. haha
Dea : one time when he was playing vs the comps he asked me "how do I make that flying unit that makes the other stuff invisible" and I reply "ur playing terran zomg"

it was late 2005, or early 2006, i forget how though. BW obviously but how i cannot tell. so depressing, but probably a friend, jesus man its amazing i dont even remember how i found out about TL its kind of upsetting, there should be a check-box of sorts when you register, that way its forever imprinted in your profile how you found out about TL.

Used to play with a friend who would always beat me when I was still a UMS player on bnet. I asked him where I could go to get better, and he linked me to this site.

Starcraft Gallery(korean SC forum) users introduced TL to me. For your reference, they think TL is resembles them, and they are sooooooooo mad.

Christmas 2007 when I was visiting my parents and all I had was my crappy laptop to surf the internet, I decided to start looking up pro BW matches because I was bored. I'd played for a long time before then but never really competitively. I started watching the Shinhan Bank 3 OSL finals between Nada and Savior and it was so exciting to watch. I think in one of the comments either in one of those videos, or a related video, I saw TL.net and I checked it out and then lurked for a long time, then finally signed up later on.

I was a script kiddie money-map maphacker in 2005. In my endless googling for StarCraft hacks, I would occasionally stumble on this site with this (what I thought) to be a hideous and unusable blue user interface. How could people even read their posts here!?!? I couldn't stand that the fact that no one had an avatar, just a username and a 22x22 icon of an SC unit. Eventually, as the hacking forum I went to died and I discovered Korean StarCraft (ironically from a thread on le hax forum)... I came to TL.net for the second time.

The TribalTrouble RTS game. Someone told me about starcraft and asked if there were any people that went to teamliquid.net, the best site for the best RTS game. I decided to check out TL.net and lurked for a few years but now, I'm here :D

Search Engine.

Came here in 2002 looking for replays (I think). Can't remember if I registered though. I stopped following the BW scene in 2004 when I went to uni, though, and only picked it up again in 2008 (registered for FPL).

Should never have left .

I actually found it from gosugamers
and I found gosugamers from youtube

TL is better than gosugamers except the mods here are unnecessarily strict, but anything else is ok

I was playing on iccup and was losing most of the time. I started asking the well-mannered Starcraft BROODWAR(better than sc2) community for help at the end of matches that i lost. Several of them told me to come here to improve.

It was an irl friend of mine - in 2004. Took me 6 years to register though for sc2 as I did not find myself worthy of contributing to sc:bw (being a total noob, I did not want to waste anyones time). As everyone and his mother registerd with sc2, so did I and here I am.

StarCraft.org way back when TL first came out. I always just lurked until I got SC2B not sure why, just never felt like adding to the discussion, used it more like a news site for most of my tenure viewing it.
