Things to expect in this blog - Meeting with the progamers - Pictures as Chill and Kennigit pass the masses of WoW players to get into the venue a bit early and their subsequent reactions. - Random thoughts on Starcraft 2 - Our abusive strategies specifically designed for this build of SC2 (We already have some theorycrafted LOL!)
Things you shouldn't expect - Deep insight to the game itself - Naked pictures of Manifesto7 (worth more than Murloc pets, I know) - All those important things will be presented in a much more presentable fashion a little later on.
We will be continuing this blog similar to the Blizzcon one throughout the day. To give you a more in depth feeling of what the event has/will be like, and our experiences in Paris and with other TL members.
Day 2 - Aftermath - Typing the events which transpired last night would not do them justice. We are uploading a whole bunch of video clips including a 2 hour long post event synopsis with Chill, Kennigit, Meat and Mani.
- We are starting to upload right now.
I'll start - Mani
From left to right: XeoFreeStyler, Stork, Kennigit, Chill, Haji. The bald guy in the back is my man Chosi.
Day 2 - Part 5 Rage got Savior and the CJ "chaperon" to agree to do Team Liquid Attack. More to come later. And they're coming to the TL party tonight, evidently.
Day 2 - Part 4 - The finals just finished and my hopes were crushed that Sea would win two BO3s ;_; - We yelled 3,2,1 fighting for Sea and Stork - The MBCGame camera crew heard this and came running over to interview us. They were interviewing Taiche and then got us to do the cheer a couple more times on film - hence tasteless and mani having to keep stopping hahah. - We had the letters of Teamliquid.net on single pieces of paper for the camera but apparently the stream had a black audience - that's OK - it will be seen by all of Korea cause MBC filmed that too - Rest of the day will mostly be playing SC2. We had a good talk about it last night and it will be nice to play each other and not random scrubbers who die to 1 zeal 1 probe harass.
We arrived pretty early to get front seats. Unfortunately the first 3 rows were reserved for Blizzard employees and VIPs, so we were in row four. We actually got everyone in rows four and five somehow I think, except for Kwark who just randomly appeared and followed Idra into the VIP section.
We decided to do the cheers first when the players were warming up so they could hear it. We did 3 2 1 Yum Bo Sung fighting! I think it was pretty loud and he definitely heard it because I saw a little smirk on his face when we did it. Then Manifesto said something like "Oh that's nice from the boys at Teamliquid, although it would be nice to hear something for Stork.......Okay then" because we hadn't readied anything for Stork. We finally got around to doing the 3 2 1 Song Byun Goo fighting and all was well.
After we did the cheer some MBC Game camera guy (who was also kind of directing the action) and a translator lady came over and asked who was a Stork fan. It took awhile to respond since we were mostly Sea fans, but Taiche was a big Stork fan. He eventually got to do an interview with MBC Game on the spot, and I actually missed a lot of game 1 because I was leaning out of the way of the camera and trying to listen to the interview. At the end the translator lady asked us to do a Stork cheer but it kind of sucked because it was mid game and we didn't want to randomly yell out. Then I looked up and saw Sea dying to DT cheese -_-
Then we decided to do the cheer at the start of game so that it would be recorded into the VOD and so TL could hear it. We were pretty loud (I led the Sea cheer and Haji led Stork) but I was worried it wouldn't get recorded because there seemed to be no microphone on the crowd, but apparently IRC heard it. After we did the in-game cheer, MBC Game came rushing over and to ask us to do it again so they could record it. It was hilarious because you would always seem them come bolting full speed down the aisle after we did anything, and then they turned on their floodlight and started recording. That's why there's two cheers on the one game.
BWWI Entrance. They had these rotating ads to show up coming events. Blizzard bought the ad space for all of them. It went from BWWI to...BWWI

Day 2 - Part 1
Kennigit and I are sitting at the main stage right now, we're trying to reserve the entire front row for TL. We couldn't get a white board unfortunately, but most of the people had TL shirts on yesterday. I'm wearing my pony shirt that all the progamers signed. We have to all be in the front so we can 321 Yum Bo Sung fighting! There's been some talk about rushing the stage to congratulate the winner. I don't know where we stand on that, but if it happens you'll probably see it on the stream.
Not much else to say. Haji was fucking tanked last night and it was everything I thought it could be and about 7 times more. And we're going to get drunk with progamers tonight. Easy.
Alright, Kennigit will probably update this with something useful while I put up some pictures.
- After this, about 25 of us went to the TL meet up which Taiche organized. First of all let me say what a baller Taiche is for setting that up - it was a huge success (pix and videos to follow).
- We were all drinking quite a bit but I'll recall everything interesting I can:
- Our cast (barring any forgotten names) was as follows - Liquid`Meat Chill Kennigit Tasteless Zizou21, Idra, Taiche, Taiche's GF, Retkusage, G.S)Naruto, Nyovne, Rage, Xeofreestyler, Chosi, Talic, Talic's GF, MYM.Raven, and some random TL guys - I'm sorry I don't remember your names but afairemember you simply told me that you were a lurker LOL including the guy who only has 50 posts and only flames people - he wouldn't tell me his TL ID cause he thought we'd ban him LOL.
- During the night we were joined by a few people:
- The WGTour guys, featuring DKnight
- MONDRAGON!!!!
- BLIZZARD EMPLOYEES!!!
- BLIZZARD EMPLOYEES WEARING TL SHIRTS (John (not jon :D), Martin, Anna, Christopher and....i think Johnathon, if I'm wrong on the last then shoot me. 4/5 with 4 pints).
- We tried to get the progamers to join us but unfortunately Savior and Sea had to play the losers final at like 9:30pm and they thought it would be too late. Don't think they were dodging however, Rage had a sick experience with Sea.
- Xeo and Rage couldn't find us during the Dreiven vs Kal match - they sat down in the front row with Sea[shield]. He recognized them from our earlier meeting and said "ahahaha Draiyven...many minerals....very bad bad. hahaha" LOLOL!. Sea was such a cool cat, he was legitimately excited to come chill with us tonight so we will try make up for it tomorrow.
- I demanded that Mondragon answer why he would not be on TL:Attack. At first he said something like "have you ever seen me vs. noobs???!!! NEVER!!" After Liquid`Meat bought him a beer he agreed to do it. No timeline set but we are so holding him to it
- RAGE BEAT KAL AT SC2 AND IS THEREFORE THE BEST SC2 PLAYER IN THE WORLD AT THIS MOMENT. Go read his blog or something if he posts about it for more info
- I forgot to mention that at the beginning of the day Chill and i had a funny experience. We snuck back stage to the progamer area (was empty) with mani and as we were sauntering out some blizzard employee walks up to us and goes "HEY ARE YOU FROM TEAMLIQUID?" "Yes" we reply "Next time, update your TLPD so I don't download Bluestorm 1.1 onto all the computers" ....we stood there stunned. I think our response was something like "ok LOL"
[mod note: TLPD is updated now :p]
- I have like 50 pictures of the TL Meet and a couple funny videos which i will be adding to this shortly.
Day 1 - Part 4
Stork > Kal 2-1. Was a pretty entertaining PvP, and Stork's PvP looks ridiculously solid. I had to keep asking Haji and Kennigit how Stork was still ahead after losing so much.
We're trying to do a video interview with the foreigners, but we can't get into the lounge. They said they'll come out to talk to us after they've played their matches.
We have seen everyone on the stage except Savior. I'm so sad because he's my favourite player (both here and just in general). I was talking with Xeo, trying to get Stork's signature, when suddenly he looked up and was like "wtf Savior???" and then we all rushed him for pics / signatures. I don't have pics with him since it was usually on someone else's camera. But I do have this:
From bottom left, clockwise, that's Manifesto7, Kal, Sea, Tasteless, Savior, Stork. Just need the foreigners and then maybe I'll get TL people to sign the back. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, maybe a prize or something.
Anyways, Kennigit and Manifesto ditched me and everyone else is getting food so I'm going to get some food and then go show some newbs the meaning of pain in SC2
We just ambushed the progamers. Sea had a translator so we could actually have a conversation with him. I got my TL shirt signed, gave him a TL shirt and a cheerful which was pretty good. And he said he might come to the TL dinner, so we had to use Taiche's phone so we could get Sea's phone number (will be done).
Same treatment from Stork and Kal. Savior has been locked into the basement so we haven't seen him yet. I'm really looking forward to meeting him.
Now Stork is playing Kal on the stage. We loaded up an image of Goon range and held it up for a while in the front row but he didn't look at it. Then to make him feel better we did a Stork cheer.
Day 1 - Part 2 - We finished the opening ceremony - thank god i had some glorious diablo 3 to block out those commentators.
- Sea is a little baller and all the teamliquid crew ran over to get autographs/pics with him. One of the MBC coaches is here who speaks English. Based on the rest of the schedule for StarCraft they are going to come to the TL meet tonight.
- just saw dreiven vs savior. we are going downstairs to watch more sc
Day 1 - We just met Mani and toured around the event. Its big. REAL big. The main stage is like the largest wide screen TV you ever imagined, plus 2 more attached to the side. We just met lordofascension, who is standing right behind me as i type this. Mazor and vilda from GG.net are to our right, and the two SCLeagacy guys are just behind us.
- We met 3 Blizz employees who are in charge of the RTS tournaments. Very cool guys - 1 was wearing his TeamLiquid shirt underneath his Blizzard employee one! There's some TL guys apparently a few rows back who Chill has gone to find and chat with - we'll be updating this blog with pictures in a few minutes. + Show Spoiler [photos] +
- Its about 30 minutes till the opening ceremony starts.
- We just played a bunch of random matches - vs random noobs. Wow. None of you can ever say anything about my SC skill ever again. 10 pool has been nerfed a bit since the build that LR played in California, but siege tanks blasts are completely raping. 2 tank blasts killed 13 marines just as one guy was leaving his base.
- The closest a guy came to beating me was walling his ramp with rax and two deports which fits perfectly - Zealots however completely rape.
- we are both 5-0 but i realized we simply need to 2 gate rush/10 pool whatever kill 3/4 the mining units and then explore the tech tree. We'll probably do that this afternoon
- Lastromantic i tried everything to test your strat. I even got 3 blizzard employees to come over to show me and finally one realized that salvaging isn't in this test build. Back to old theorycrafting board.
- During our short play test we found we were both in "broodwar" mode ie. splitting quickly of the go selecting mining units etc. I even forgot about MBS until after we got back here. We were playing standard bw builds (2 fac for example) and they work for the most part. Imagining tornado terran is scary because siege tanks blasts are so strong - they will have to be toned down
Day 0 - I arrived at my hotel around 10am and had to wait 2 hours before i could check in. The lady wouldn't give me access to the wireless until we checked in so i went to a near by park and leached it off some unsuspecting parisian. HA!
- Around 12pm when i arrived back at the hotel, the lady at the front desk looks at my sternly and says '...there's someone that would like to talk to you'. My first thought is that its French customs or my mom or something , but i was greeted with the pleasant voice of some guy. Haji
- Thedeadhaji and i met his hotel and then came over to mine to wait for Chill.
- Thoughts on haji: at first i thought he was paid actor. No way could a regular guy like this produce awful posting like that. We "chilled" and watched some vods and discussed why he has gone from fascist mod to tl troll!
- Chill arrived around 6pm and we laughed for about 45 minutes at Kwark's blog asking for help and the replys it got. Around 8:20 we started to make our way to our meeting point with mani and taiche.
- Taiche set up and organized a small dinner for us the first night. So we head over to this Blizzard hotel....i immediately knew we had arrived when i would see random excited men and women in their 30s talking loudly (American ofc) and strutting...probably a "i work for a company that makes $5000000000000 per year from wow" kind of strut. Very cool cats, but haven't had a chance to talk to them.
- We asked the girl to call mani in his room but she said he hadn't arrived yet. Just as we began to formulate plans to call our "other" friends including Dustin Browder, Chris Siggity, Ma Jae Yoon and Yum bo sung i saw Samwise Didier.
- Whoa. Its crazy seeing people in real life who you've only seen videos off (i imagine the effect will be similar for DB). We were about to approach him to get pix etc, when all of a sudden we realized mani had arrive. Fuck, the sacrifices i make. Now I'm just going to be one of the millions of WoW monsters that approaches him today LOL.
- Mani had spent 23 hours traveling so we waited while he changed, and lounged around with Taiche and Liquid`Meat. Taiche had seen the Koreans walking around the hotel, we also saw Mondragon off in the distance go walking by - sir we have drinking to do ce soir.
- It was funny meeting mani. Even though this was the first time i had met the man it was like I'd known him for much longer (...perhaps through the internet). We jumped on the subway and went to me Taiche's girlfriend at a cozy french restaurant.
- You know when people joke and make stereotypes about the french and their food? Yes those are all true, i saw a guy standing with a cellphone in his hand but also large baguette in the same hand...looked like he was talking to it. My first thought was to take a picture for IRC but it was just as we arrived at the restaurant.
- Taiche and his girlfriend were amazing. The busted out some french on the waiter and we got a wide selection of wine and food and talked about things we all had in common - TL and Starcraft(except taiche's gf but he filled her in). Chill and i were just talking and we agreed that Taiche is like the nicest guy we've ever met - true baller.
- Around midnight we started to head back to our respective hotels. Haji came back with me and chill and they watched the Luxury vs Best vods. I fell asleep after the 4th game. Fuck.
----
Stuff for today. We are about to leave for the subway and head over to the venue. If you see us in our tl shirts come over and say hi, we will be at 1 of 3 locations - the SC2 area, the right up by the stage watching mani and tasteless cast or in the press room planning our attack on the progamers.
- we hope to live stream our encounter with the progamers. This also includes having them interact with you guys via stickam or irc or something. Stay tuned
- I will be challenging Dustin Browder on why he hasn't removed MBS yet. My evidence will be my BW skill level (negative 50) vs my sc2 skill level (i suspect to be much higher)
Just an update, the original plan called for Sea vs Mondragon to be streamed, but instead it will be WC3, with a different SC match streamed later. Sea vs Mondragon will still be live for those in attendance. I felt like ass after my travels, but Taiche was amazing and the perfect host. It was remarkable how comfortable I was with everyone, the introductions were brief and it was just like msn... with wine.
We are going to be uploading a lot of photos as the opening ceremony starts and try film the announcement for you guys. Oh and its ESL doing this event, not giga so no mawk hoffman ;_;
Chill here. I'm not sure what Kennigit wrote since we've been in and out together. We've just got situated, trying to figure out what we're going to do when. We got access to the progamer practice/offline area and the progamer lounge. We'll take tons of pics from there. Once the opening ceremony is over I think we'll probably stalk the progamers. We have a few more tricks we'll be showing you guys in a little while too.
x3 Very nice post so far, and much awesomeness -- lots to be jealous of~! xO Glad everything's going well for you guys over in France, and props to Taiche~ TL <3 Blizz, yes??? Keep it up. x)

haha badass!
Was that real high-pitched korean Fangirl screams? That would be so cool
3) $10,000 in cash! 2) A frostmourn replica from WWI 08, estimated over $20,000! 1) A TL.net shirt signed by korean and foreign progamers, estimated over $50,000!

So the surveillance station needs merc haven now?? What the fuck are you doing blizzard. I guess nobody wanted to play with your reapers even after cutting medic, so just hey, make merc haven prerequsite for ONLY "mobile" detection terran has, then nobody can play without it.
Why would anybody need a BAR to build surveillance station is beyond me...
Worst streamed Q/A session ever. They went through all the stuff we already new, like new units and the modifications to them. Only interesting thing were the new creep dynamics. I also thought they'd been promising forever to unveil the new features of Battle.net at WWI, but postponing this "incredibly awesome" thing even longer? Why?!
- I forgot to mention that at the beginning of the day Chill and i had a funny experience. LOL, the Blue Storm 1.1 thing is awesome . If anybody has the chance, maybe you could try to bribe a developer to put medics in the current build rather than medivacs.
It's been a looooong time since I ever felt jealousy, but right now, after reading this, I am f**** jealous. Damn it, wish I could be there. You guys have fun for all the rest of us.
Just got back to the convention. We are sitting at the front of the main stage watching a developer discussion about Diablo 3. THe finals is starting at 11:30 i think. We will start uploading photos and video now
Too bad we can't hear what the players were saying. Korean film crews talked to them (one camera said MBC game). Hopefully someone will record and post it! + Show Spoiler +
I'm so happy stork finally won first place! Hopefully he will start to display this much dominance in korean leagues!
Chill is updating the OP right now. We got interviewed by MBCGame because we were yelling fighting for the players. I assume a youtube vod will pop up of it when they finish their WWI coverage piece. Taiche said a bunch of stuff, we also held up letters to teamliquid.net for the camera hahaha
I was sitting there playing sc2 and owning it up. I was getting all cocky cause the guy was a huge noob - All of a sudden i felt this aura of awesomeness to my left and BAM. Ma Jae Yoon. I totally froze and almost got counter owned because of it. I think my APM increased by an unnecassary amount.
Naruto and his partner are about to rape it up and we are going to film it for you guys.
Kennigit, i heard Mondragon mention that SC2 felt kind of slow, and i know this has been mentioned millions upon millions of times before that it is in fact as fast as the original but i just want to make sure once again as it's pretty much the only thing i care about, fast gameplay.
On June 30 2008 00:37 Kennigit wrote: Oh and all that stuff you guys have been complaining about for medics....yeah its bullshit, the medivac dropship is amazing - ala naruto
The medivac actually seemed pretty powerful, both in healing potential and dropping. I guess we didn't see how vulnerable it was because the zerg never teched to anti-air, but I'm starting to think it might not be awful after all.
On June 30 2008 00:37 Kennigit wrote: Oh and all that stuff you guys have been complaining about for medics....yeah its bullshit, the medivac dropship is amazing - ala naruto
Eh some more info on that would be appreciated. What makes it better than the medic? And is it just me or do they have detection now? (EDIT nvm, probably just got a turret up at the same time)
It did look LESS horrible than I thought it would be but I dunno =.=
Also can dropships still pick units up quickly, ie pick up, drop down without the silly landing animation?
Oh some more stuff I want to know Kennigit; - Are marines able to attack (effectively) pre-medivac? - Are the medivacs annoying when you have a big army (ie do they fly back and forth)? - How does marine/marauder do vs things like mass lings or vs static defense?
In the game between Naruto and Stephen Chang (the ZvT), Naruto managed to sneak a bunch of marines into the zerg main but they died fairly easily to less than a handful of drones and some lings. If these same marines had been accompanied by a medic............. Basically, don't you feel you lose a lot of the whole "hero marines" thing?

From what I saw in that same game, Naruto seemed to be really weak in the early game for that build. Putting roaches in hatchery tech without medic support in the early game really seemed imbalanced towards zerg. I would argue that Naruto survived in large part due to his great micro (and lack thereof from Steve).
I still don't like the medivac dropship...in my opinion the medic would have balanced TvZ out a little better. But what do I know, I've only watched a couple games on YouTube and haven't actually tried it...

damn that's one of the few matches that blizzard hasn't uploaded the reps for
Have they uploaded any other reps? If yes, provide linky please.
Also, is it just me or did the worker's death animations seem small and less rewarding to the eye? After watching the games between Naruto and Blizz employees, everything looked so messy, these giant click animations and strange tech ...
The front desk just called and they are throwing me out now. Last night was just crazy. OMG, we were having whiskey shots with Savior. Sea is like the coolest guy ever. He remembered me from the day before when I was wearing an MBC shirt and when he had to go he took Rage and me up to his room and gave us two of his own shirts.
Jesus I slept only 4 hours. Yesterday night was pretty crazy. I'm not gonna do a full report now. Just imagine a fucking huge reaaaally fancy hotel having like around 200 beer bottles just.. everywhere. Not to mention that sAviOr and Sea[Shield] hung out with us for like 5 hours. They were both really awesome, handing out their shirts, promising a lot of things for TeamLiquid, talking to everyone.
I wanna give you one quote you might like, knowing that Mingu cancelled TL Attack:
RaGe: Do you know B.net Attack? Sea: What? RaGe: *writes down B.net Attack on a small piece of paper and shows Sea* Sea: AHHH Benatzetnzogizebo (weird korean pronunciation of B.net Attack) yeees. RaGe: *draws an arrow to make the paper look like B.net Attack -> TeamLiquid Attack* Sea: YES TEAM LIQUID ATTACK. Me play. Mingu bad manner. Me play.
So yes, we got both sAviOr and Sea for TL Attack. Mondragon also promised to play, although he was really drunk when he did so.
Something pretty funny that happened around 4AM when the party was kinda stopping: Tasteless was like really tired and a bit drunk and he was sitting in this sofa with xeo and a few others. He was like slowly falling asleep, closing his eyes for a mere 20 seconds or something. Suddenly he wakes up, turns to Xeo and tells him with this daydreamish voice 'Man, I gotta bunker rush'. We laughed so fucking hard at that haha, he had no idea what was going on, and didnt even remember saying that later that night.
Just some random thoughts. i'll be spending 2 days with my gf in paris starting today, so I'll do like a big writeup from my point of view in 2 or 3 days.
BTW, the person beating KaL was Nyovne. He also beat another progamer I believe. I heard KaL is bad at SC2 though, and sAviOr the best.
Expect pictures of progamers wearing TeamLiquid shirts soon.

-Marines are fucking dope. If you get the shield upgrade and the stim upgrade you can really pressure any race opponent. Theyre even awesome in TvT. -The medivacs worked out great when I played them. Nothing is annoying, cause the game is so smart. You attack a unit and your units autosurround and shit. Might be a bit bad for SC2 as an esport, but medivacs werent hard to micro at all. -Marauder is really good against stalker rush by protoss. Its nice to have them in the mix. In my opinion, the static defense buildings should be nerfed a bit though.
Haha I was the one who told you that I'm just a random lurker Kennigit. And I'm really sad I couldn't go to the second party because I had to leave Paris. It was great fun hanging out with you guys. We should do Tl.net parties more often And awesome work there for TL.net Attack!!

Auto-surround sounds..... horrible?
Feel free to post in one of the many medivac threads, I guess it's a good thing it worked out although I'll miss the medic =[
And I really hope we won't be going marines in all 3 matchups? I sort of like having the bio / mech distinctions.
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG it was awesome, especially the last party with savior & sea at the hotel, i'll post some pics later :D
btw, hi to everyguy i meet.. taiche, sexlord (funniest guy ____ever____), thecrow (nice discussion!), the dutch guy (fuck i don't remember ur name), all the germans (GOGOGO SPAIN), kennegit & meat, and obviously tasteless & rose (hey, faut que tu me files ton msn), rage, oh and haji, mani, raven, etc etc

I don't own an SD card so I'm not familiar with them, but it saves as .MST [on the SD card]? I know MST is an executable file and it's usually used to test software during development, didn't know it would save like that on an SD card.

Sup. I made it to my hotel easily enough thanks to Taiche's help. Awesome guy. Was late the second day though because it took too long to get a taxi so I made it in just as the games started. Faced with sitting at the back or following Idra (who had just appeared) I went for the 'I'm with the VIP' option and sat right at the front. It was empty anyway. Spending any time with Tasteless is awesome. The guy is professionally charismatic and has an enthusiasm which is just contagious. Mani is just <3 Rest of you guys were fantastic too but tbh it'd take too long to list everyone and I really need sleep. All great guys though.
Hey! I was involved with the getting savior for tl attack too! lol Sea and Savior and his coach were all just soooo cool. The CJ coach even gave some of us his cards and we can just call him up if we wanna go to the CJ house if we're in korea WOOT.
I'll do a huge report with my pics and vids in my blog this evening. expect funny stories, pics with progamers, the most awesome broodwar cd in existence, etc.

J/k j/k.

The WoW Line was always ridiculously long hahaha. At one point i was going to cut the entire thing just to spite them but i really felt bad for them. The SC2 line was really good though - they changed 25 ppl every couple of minutes so it moved quickly
