Team Liquid is a family team. Liquid has supported me through thick and thin. Liquid has supported me despite acting out and Liquid has supported me despite having no results to turn in. And I know and can confidently tell you that Liquid would have supported me until the day I decided to hang up my mouse and keyboard. I've truly been treated like a family would treat one of its members.
Even though Liquid has provided me an ideal team environment, I'm convinced that some time away from a team environment is just what I need. If I'm ever going to be successful again then I must rediscover the intrinsic rewards of playing StarCraft. I haven't felt intrinsically rewarded since Brood War and my results reflect that. What I'm hoping to gain by leaving is a change that enables the productive mindset I used to have.
Leaving Liquid means I'll have less support and opportunities as a progamer, but the essentials for success will remain available to me as an independent player. I will practice and stream. I will play in online tournaments and in qualifiers for offline tournaments. My goals remain the same as ever. Until I'm able to put in a proper and sustained effort, I have no intention of quitting.
I want to thank Liquid for the consistency and variety of support given to me throughout my SC2 career. It has been rough and I haven't been able to give much back but they've always had faith in me and given me their time and attention beyond what our professional relationship required. It simply feels natural to care for and want to get the best out of all your fellow Liquid members. I'm happy and grateful to have been a part of it and wish them all the best.
From Liquid`Nazgul...
Although some of the newer SC2 fans may not remember, Tyler is someone who has seen and done it all. He was one of the best foreign Brood War players of all time, a TSL champion, a pioneer in Korea, and a dear friend. I'm proud to be able to say he did these things as Liquid`NonY.
I won't deny that it wasn't always easy to support Tyler in the battle he fights with himself. I'd like to think we tried our best, but I still wish we had been able to do more. I want fans to know that there was a period in which he asked not to receive any salary, because it was a constant reminder of having something to live up to. On top of everything else he had to deal with in his life, the sense of responsibility he put on himself in StarCraft lead to an unhealthy amount of pressure.
Today's news doesn't come out of the blue, as it's well known he has has struggled with these issues for a long time. By leaving Liquid he is going to try to regain the joy of playing he once had. He needs to go back to the basics. It is a decision I understand and support, and I hope the rest of you do so as well.
We wish you the best, Nony, and know that our door will always be open to you.
Sad but not surprising, I hope Nony gets that desire back as most fans of your BW play would agree with. Good luck in your search for why you started playing in the first place, hope you'll find happiness through simplicity.
You better come back soon and with new ass kicking powers NonY! You were my favorite foreigner toss player, and even now one of my favorite players and personalities in the community.
I have a feeling you will return to liquid some day, but until then I hope you can hit your stride independently and when you do I will cheer for you as I always have.
I hope you're able to find a way to enjoy Starcraft again. I still think that a fully motivated Nony could be one of the scariest forces in the scene. Best of luck as you continue on.
It's sad but as someone who struggles with similar issues I totally understand where he is coming from. I wish you all the best Tyler and I hope you are able to find peace with yourself and the joy in this amazing game ^_^
Im so sad right now, didnt see this coming. Hopefully he can follow through with pushing himself to play and stream more. Wish the best to you in the future Tyler! <3
GL NonY. As someone who deals with depression I can understand how stepping away from pressures and making important personal choices for yourself can sometimes be the best thing for you.
Hope to see you streaming and perhaps one day you will be back on Liquid where you belong ^^
I love your honesty and decency, Nony. It must have been tempting to remain in a team that would no doubt have taken care of you even if you were playing badly, and get a salary at the same time. Good luck in the future, I'll still root for you!
aw this actually sucks, been a fan for quite awhile now but hopefully it might ignite that spark, will never stop hoping to see you back on liquid in the future
From the outside, it doesn't seem like Liquid + Tyler has been working, since he hasn't really done anything much in 3 years of SC2, so it might be that a fresh approach separate from TL can do him some good.
It's been something quite a few people have been expecting for a long while though, since he hasn't been around for team competitions.
Tyler, Nony. You will always be my favorite Star Craft player. From when I followed you in Broodwar having great games against Mondragon to almost winning courage league on your first time, you have always had a place in the Star Craft community that could never be taken. Good luck on your future adventures. My favorite moment of course.. is when I finally got to take a picture with you at MLG Dallas.
Best of luck NonY, you are one of the few foreigners i am always happy to watch play. I hope you can get to a level of skill that you are happy with. i will be watching your stream whenever it's on and i look forward to seeing you in tournaments.
Good memories of back when Liquid'Tyler was competing at MLG in the early days of SC2 and was a force to be reckoned with. Hoping he can tune his game and find the motivation again just like those days.
GL man, I hope you can find whatever emotions you need to help drive you towards success, whether it be in Starcraft II or life. Always respected you, again good luck.
Wish you luck man, I always loved watching you play. You also have a very smart and good outlook on things and it was always good to hear your opinions.
This is a little nit picky but, i wish they'd choose a picture of him smiling or laughing. This picture is kind of depressing to some extent. None the less, good luck Nony and do good things. :D
Been a long time coming. I did not follow brood war but I heard a lot of good stuff about NonY's skill which don't reflect his results in sc2. I like his approach to be independent now. Best of luck in the future!
J/k kidding J/k kidding (props to anyone who got that ref)
Good luck Tyler! your stream has been enjoyable and I will keep cheering for you, not because Im a huge fan of you as a player, I havent been following you close enough for that, but because through your blogs and various statements, you seem like a nice, intelligent, although troubled human being with too much pressure on yourself and I can heavily relate to that.
I hope everything will work out for the best!
haven't felt intrinsically rewarded since Brood War
Tyler knew that he needed a change of pace and leaving liquid will alleviate some of the pressure's of performing well. Some time away from the pressure of the team and to find something that works for him. Even though this was expected to happen eventually, it is still very sad.
I don't usually post but this warrants one. I wish you the best of luck NonY, you're one of my favorite players and I hope you can achieve the goals you have set out to.
Saddened from this. NonY was someone I silently looked up to, given he faces similar struggles to me (depression, etc) and wanted to see him flourish. Well, no matter where you go, I hope he will find what he seeks for, and that once more will find enjoyment in playing StarCraft.
Man that is crazy, I am not sure how leaving Liquid will help him get back to form, but I hope he does one day and I hope that he returns to liquid, I can't see him on any other team it would be unatural. GL to both liquid and Tyler.
I know that after a hundred of these it may not mean much, scores of people you've never met wishing you well, but from the bottom of my heart, I wish you the best.
Sad that Tyler's leaving Liquid for the sense of family and camaraderie that was always shown, but happy that this means he's looking to actively increase his skill, which can only mean higher level foreign play incoming
Good luck, Tyler, you're a great dude, and we as a whole want nothing but the best for you.
I'm not sure why he hasn't been able to post results in Starcraft II, he definitely has the skill as he was a top foreign brood war Protoss. Hopefully some time away from the game and being on a team helps him refocus - Nony was one of my favourite Protoss' to emulate in BW.
Nony I'll always remember you as the first modern Liquid player and I hope the best for you in the future. I will also always remember your first courage tournament, getting as close as anyone possibly could to a progamer license. gl hf
Nony hwaiting! Your TSL2 final against Mondragon was the reason I started following progaming; best of luck in the future! I believe you can rediscover your spark.
I miss NonY from BW. Haven't ever seen a game of his in SC2 to be honest. Wish you the best of luck! I hope you return to BW scene for fun while you are deciding what to do!
I sincerely hope that the changes you've been making over the past few months will have a positive effect on you and your SC2 career. Never give up. NonY hwaiting!
You're the player I respect the most, for your integrity and respect for yourself and others alike. I hope you find what you're looking for, good luck~~
"Always look ahead and above yourself. Always strive to elevate your craft."
Damn man. When I first came to the sc2 scene it was by watching state of the game with you, geoff, artosis, and day9. I have always thought that you were one of my favorite players, and Ile always root for ya. good luck.
Won't pretend this was unexpected. Everyone's gotta retire someday, and this feels like it was NoNy's time to go. A little past it, in fact. He was in this slump for a long time. It wasn't making him happy. Can't win like that.
I hope everything pans out for the best for you, Tyler! Know that you've always been a hero to a lot of us here at TL, and we want you to keep being the baller we all know you are, so here's to the future man!
I won't act like I'm your biggest fan or this is somehow devastating to me, but I will just say that you're obviously one of the more intense pro-gamers Tyler - with the kind of pressure you put on yourself, it's difficult to perform well.
I hope you find what you're looking for, and I equally hope you can keep things in perspective (after all, it is only starcraft!)

User was temp banned for this post.
People with this mindset should never post in TL forums. Liquid's seal is the family-like environment, we don't bash our players in the head because they haven't posted results.
Best of luck yo you Tyler! Hope to see you back in form, but more importantly, I sincerely hope you enjoy the game again, or find something else that rises your passions.
Good luck Tyler! I'm glad you want to take Starcraft a little more seriously again as I always loved watching you play and I was really worried you were going to quit.
I hope you find what you're looking for with HoTS and show us all good games! :D
I'm reading this with a laughing and a crying eye (also: comical o-shaped mouth).
It's sad to see TL lose another of the players that made the team so easy to root for, but here's to hoping Tyler can really use this opportunity to get back to being great. He hasn't announced retirement yet, so I hope he keeps going.
It is a little bit hard not be sad about this. But I am convinced that Tyler knows best what's good for himself, so it HAS to be a good move overall.
Nony is a GREAT programer even though his SC2 results dont really tell that. I really hope he can overcome his problems, and simply live a happy life. Then hopefully he will be able to unleash the beast within him and rule foreign SC again!
Tyler, I wish you good luck and a lot of courage for your future endeavours. I really hope you can rebuild yourself, and then, maybe, come back to Liquid stronger than ever? GL, man!
Best of luck, Tyler. If possible, you should do a YouTube-show where you talk strategies, and BW memories, those have always been my favorite parts of SotG.
This is sad news. Tyler was, is and will forever be my favorite player. It will be SO weird to not see him as a part of Liquid anymore... :/ Still, I hope you find the peace and comfort zone you are looking for, man. I (as I'm sure many others, too) will keep on rooting for you.
i have always had great respect for Tyler. i have greater respect for him now. his stream will always be playing when ever i catch he's on. i hope only the best for him.
i like how nazgul always metions that ''our doors are always open to you'' or ''liquid will always welcome you back'' etc. at each player's leave, it just makes each player feel so welcomed totally like a family. Sad about tyler leaving, he was an inspiration and such an innovative player too, good luck.
Nony's stream in the SC2 beta was the first stream I watched regularly. Will be fun seeing how he does in the future Also, that pencil sketch makes him look pretty badass ^^
I dont want to be the conspiracy theorist, but something is a bit off here, and I think Nony was actually released...? For example, nony's reasons and manner of saying it, nazgul's coldness, and the general "simpleness" of this farewell thread, in contrast to other similar retire threads, is worth noting.
Anyway, GL to Nony! I hope you find your fire soon!
This seems like a strong decision, I hope Tyler is able to achieve the mindset he is seeking. I was a bit of a late comer to the StarCraft eSports scene, discovering this wonderful sport with the first SC2 GSL Open Tournament, so I didn't get to see Tyler at the peak of his abilities but I was won over as a fan by watching him on SotG. I like the personality and philosophy that I have seen from Tyler, and his high self standards have led me to believe that he will continue to improve until we watch NonY games with the same awe we reserve for Code S players.
Good luck NonY! I'll be cheering for you during your journey, and I hope HotS will help to return your love for the game.
I can't describe how sad this makes me . I became an instant fan of yours after watching you blow through TSL2 and then learning of your past achievements.
I really hope you come back one day, but seeing you without that Liquid blue will be so different.
I don't really know much about Tyler, as I am not an avid follower of the NA sc2 scene. But maybe somebody can help me out: Was he a very active player that participates frequently in the regulas small cups? Is he one of the better protoss on the NA server?
Either way, I am glad that he did not chose to quit. I hope we'll hear from him again. :-)
This is not bad news. Tyler is not retiring, he's just leaving the team. He's not even taking a break. He's just going to find his passion again. This is good news.
Nony, I first joined the scene shortly before TSL1. You were the first starcraft player that ever I became a fan of. Your skill and promise in Brood War were unparalleled for any other foreign player. I was convinced you were the highest skilled foreign BW player, and to this day still carry that bias. It's entirely understandable that you want to recapture what ever it was that made you that player. I wish you the best of luck and will always remain your fan.
You'll always have a ton of fans rooting you on Tyler. Despite the lack of recent results, no one can deny how great of player you are. I'm sure we'll see you at the top again. Good luck!
Things are getting worst everyday. Tyler retiring, bisu not playing, zvz in code s finals, my girl just said she doesn't want me anymore (actually that's not so bad right now). I really hope things get better like the old times again after HOTS release.

Nony Fighting!!~
I hope you're right! It's still sad for me to see him leaving Liquid. Now only TLO and Ret are left from the early WOL days
I wish you good luck and in the same time I like what you decided to do, it's a challenge to yourself and I think it's a great idea at this point. The timing is right, do your best we will support you.
I seriously have tears in my eyes. Tyler has been such an amazing person for this community with his character and amazing mind. I´ve laughed so many times reading his posts, listening to the state of the game podcasts and cheered him on in different tournaments.
I truly wish you the best of luck Tyler, You are one of the persons who made me love the SC community for what it is. I hope you continue to do what you love. I´m just sad I never got to see you at a event but I hope I will some day!
I had huge hopes for Nony when SC2 came out but he just never seemed that passionate about the game. It's too bad b/c he was one of the best foreign brood war protoss users ever and I feel he never was able to show many of the new SC2 players his skill. I think this move is for the better and I can only wish that he rediscovers his passion or finds a new passion to pursue in life.
I hope Tyler does well, just because I respect him as a deep and thoughtful person. But while he did well in Brood War, I hope his reason is ultimately what's deciding whats good for him and not his emotions and memories of the past. I feel like he is intelligent enough to be doing lots of really great things, and with SC2 as incredibly intense as it is today...I mean not even the players that used to be good register anymore. At least, my greatest hope for Nony is, that he doesn't decide to just start playing poker as an alternative, because it seems like an even more depressing way to go out that has less chances of success.
Should have done this a year or two ago... I wonder what his therapist told him. "Dude, you suffer from major depressive disorder. You dont enjoy being a pro gamer. Pls continue!" ...
So good luck Nony/tyler. I dont know if you are still depressed and to what level, but you should fix that before you start thinking about being a pro gamer. I dont know how your financial situation is like, but if you can, try something new and see how it affects your mental state. And if you miss being a pro gamer, come back.
Good luck Tyler! Fuck results, fuck pressure, fuck everything but finding a way to live life in a way that you enjoy. I'm just a nobody here, but you will always have my support and cheers.
For what it's worth coming from some random guy on the internet, I feel like you've been a very possitive influence on the community. You usually give a very level headed impression and it's always been a pleasure to hear your thoughts in a discussion. In short, you've made it very easy to be a fan of yours and I sincerely hope that you stay active in the community and that you find happiness in your endevours.
Good luck Tyler, I hope you are able to find StarCraft 2 rewarding to play with the HotS release. Sad to see you leave TL, but respect the reasoning. Again, best of luck, hope you are well, and look forward to catching your steams in the future.
woow.... This is really sad.. I actually teared up a little.. For me Tyler has always been the liquid guy. I hope that we can welcome him back one day!
Your such a cool guy tyler, and im so glad to hear that your not retiring, but only leaving your team (something that needs to be underlined i feel) Im looking so much forward to that inevitable day in the future when someone blasts through that open bracket of that big tournament, and we all realise that its our old friend Nony, reborn glhf
Tyler I hope for the best and am praying you rediscover the joys of playing and that in time you come back to Liquid. I am excited to see what you will do and know you always will have at least one fan cheering for you. Nony FIGHTING!!!!!!!
Lmfao. 19 pages about someone who I don't even know and I thought I knew all good SC2 players. Was this guy foreign or something cause I haven't seen him in any tournaments?

Show some damn respect. This isn't even "trolling" like you think it is this is just you pretending to be an idiot.
This is the first one who says that he will continue to play and try to find his inner mojo, and then try to come back. This is quite impressive, he has been playing for so long and is stil trying to get what he once had. This is not a retiring thread, yet people here threat it so
was afraid you were gone for good when i saw the title, but it looks like you will come back hard and strong. gl. hope to see you again in big tournament finals.
I wish you the best, still remember you from the early days of SC2. Maybe the life as a progamer isnt supportive when you got mental problems. Too much pressure, too often situations when your angry of yourself. However good luck.
Liquid plz get some foreign signings, it would be disappointing when TL gets an only korean team. Of course its more easy to win foreign tournaments by letting korean progamers smash some foreign "noobs". but at least for me its more easy to identify with people who actually speak a language i can understand, and show things called emotions
Long overdue. I hope you find some focus and rediscover why you chose this unique career so you can either come back refreshed or you can find something else to do with yourself.
Tyler was my favourite player in BW ever since he won WCG USA and is the main reason TL is my favourite team. I really hope he can get his mojo back, and win everything, cus he deserves it.
A sad day but perhaps a neccessary one. I always liked and sometimes admired about Tyler, are his well-thought outspokenness, foremost against discrimination in any form (I remember his posts in a thread about sexism not so long ago), his constant attempt to be as unbiased and fair as possible when weighing his arguments in a discussion and overall his integrity. Those characteristics all come to bear in the decision to continue his career without the liquid tag. As I said: sad but perhapsm neccessary. Sincerely, all the best of luck for all the small and big obstacles life throws at us and best wishes from germany.
Getting a picture with you and having my team liquid shirt during IPTL was my favorite esport moment ever. I was just a annoying fanboy and you guys totally made time for me and my friends. You and team liquid will have my life long support!
And hey they're giving us Protoss micro back in HotS. Maybe you won't be bored anymore when you can put your awesome APM to good use!
I'm hoping this won't turn into the end of his SC2 career. Best of luck to NonY and his pursuits, I'm hoping he'll eventually come to accomplish a lot.
Tyler could end up being the second Grubby as far as no-team-but-still-sucessful-pro goes. :D I look foward to what's in store for you bud and wish you the best. Nony hwaiting!
I think NonY is right to acknowledge that he isn't doing good in SC2 and something drastic has to happen if he wants to be a successful player. So far, he hasn't had much in the way of results. Hopefully he still plays a lot and success comes. I want to believe again in the NonY era of BW where he was smashing everyone. I still believe he has that in him still, he just needs to find it again. NonY Fighting!
NonY I will always support you. It takes a big man to know what is best and make a (what I am sure was) hard choice. Best of luck and I look forward to watching you stream and participate in tourneys.
wow, I mean I knew he was struggling with depression but I didn't think he would quit TL though I can understand wanting to reignite a desire. Good luck to you Tyler!
Reading this i feel so sad, yet so happy. I hope Nony finds new passion to pursue esports in heart of the swarm. If not, i will always remember him as one of the greatest starcraft players.
Respect Tyler, respect man. I hope you are able to find what you are looking for. And even if not, I'm sure your fans will be here to support you for as long as you desire.
Best of luck to you Nony! Your fans will stick by you thick and thin and once you find that drive to reignite your competitive edge and regain your bearings, we will still be there for you to see you rise up again, so much respect for you over the years and all the best! Nony fighting!
Tyler! But why!? I really hope it's for the best and I wish you the best of luck on your own! As with family, whether you have the last name, or team name, in common is of no significance. You are and always will be a member of the Liquid family!
Know you'll be back. Good luck though man. Your TSL was one of my most memorable BW moments, and I know tons of others feel the same way. Take some time and come back stronger. You'll always have fans here.
Watching Nony go within one game of achieving a pro licence in Korea, f5'ing like mad in the report thread, was one of the most exciting things ever to happen in my time following esports.
Tyler i just want to say that i will never forget, For me personnally your the one, trough your stream, that got me interested in sc2. Your build were always precise and you could see just by watching the stream, a very expirimented and organised player. Your logic is the one i still use today, not in terms of build(cause that has evolved sicned then) but in terms of how you approach the game and how clear and precise your build orders and midgame goals were. I haven't had much time to watch your stream recently but i wish you the best and i hope to get to see some more interesting content on your stream soon and hopefully see you in tournement play in Hots.
We wish you the best, Nony, and know that our door will always be open to you.
All the best Tyler. I know how hard depression is. Let's hope for you to finally find the ability to take a grasp on those problems once and for all. I'd like to see that Liquid tag once more on you sir!
If I'm ever going to be successful again then I must rediscover the intrinsic rewards of playing StarCraft. I haven't felt intrinsically rewarded since Brood War and my results reflect that.
Try out the TLS Qualifiers and see if you are intrinsically motivated again would be my advice. Nony, you are, to me and many, the single most achieving foreigner and it will not be forgotten. Best of luck!

Good luck Nony! I'll always be a fan.
^ I 100% agree. Watching Nony perform when he was at his prime in BW was a beautiful thing.
Nony I most sincerely hope you will consider playing Brood War again. You have a big fanbase here, and we too, are like a family. Your glory came from Brood War, and you will find more if you decide to open that door again. True BW game sense, never goes away. Here's to hoping to see Nony in TLS2!
Nony, TSL2 was my first experience with a foreign starcraft tournament. The way you made me feel watching those games. . . I've never met you in person but I want to thank you for providing such a powerful experience for a fan like me. I've always rooted for you and will continue to do so; I wish you the best.
Sometimes you just need to let go of what is supporting you and take a risk. Sometimes you need to free-fall.
Wish Tyler the best. Stay positive, have fun and realize there is more to life than 1st place! I don't have much time these days to watch SC2, let alone play, but when I do, Tyler's stream will always be on the top of my list.
Sad news, I really hope this helps Nony improve to the point he's looking for. I'm a huge fan of the guy, and I'd love to see him hit his goals. Best of luck.
GL Tyler, take a break and come back if you miss it. There are a lot of other games to catch up on that have come out since you started playing starcraft.
I just hope I don't end up against you in any of them.
haven't felt intrinsically rewarded since Brood War
could somebody explain the word intrinsically?
It means 'in and of itself' - in this case he hasn't enjoyed playing the game. There were other rewards though, like the cars, the dollars and the bitches.
I thought he would retire soon. Leaving Liquid and still playing as a pro is suprising, even though I doubt he can find any passion again. I hope he would stay as a pro, but I think he will soon move on to something else. My advice would have been to work for TL as something else than a player. He is the best face for Liquid in my eyes, could have build around that (a little bit like Incontrol).
Good luck in your future endeavours.. I never knew you as anything other, than a decidedly average player, but in the words of JaeDong: Work as hard as you can doing what you love, that is the only way to live!
Best wishes to Nony. My favorite player, he's the one player who I make an effort to watch all of his matches. I hope he manages to find the spark again, and I hope he gets all the success he is capable of.
To be honest, if he actually was in the mix with SOTG, and other talk shows, the amount of popularity he has, would of more than been enough for a salary. 26 pages in a couple of hours, he's a draw, and maybe he can use that at a later point, hopefully if he doesn't stay away too long.
When I first saw the headline, I was scared to death he was retiring, even though I've been expecting it for a long time. While it will be sad to see him without a Liquid tag, I'm very excited Tyler is not retiring, and is making a such a drastic change to get his motivation back. He is obviously intelligent about the game, and I really hope he can improve in HotS. Tyler fighting!
gl Tyler^^ One of my favorite Protoss players, both in bw and sc2. One of my favorite streams as well when he talks a bit, although usually at bad times for me Hope this leads to more streaming.
I'm glad you aren't quitting Tyler, there have been some amazing games from you and I know that that's only going to get better in the future. I'll be watching!
Nony, always been a fan. I really admire you for this and wish you all the best. I hope you find what you're looking for, and i hope you come back to liquid once you have it. Gl hf.
Go play some D3! I swear the Diablo series is like the best for these kinds of breaks and then you come back and have an amazing new perspective on the game. I think Vibe did this and was an entirely new animal after his return.
Anyways, a focused and productive Nony is one of the scariest things so hopefully this break is exactly what you need to achieve that! Gl Nony!
To Nony: I was at Lone Star Clash last year playing with my college team. I was walking from the players room to the restroom upstairs, absent minded, waving my arms, just excited to be there. Then I saw someone walking towards me, and thought, "Hey...I know that person." Then I realized it was Tyler and got this big doofy grin on my face as we made eye contact. He smiled back warmly with an amused expression. I didn't even think to say hey. I just kept grinning like a dork and gave him a quick wave.
Tyler, that made my day. As I got into the bathroom I just started laughing as I imagined you thinking, "lol, what the hell is wrong with this guy?" I wish you the best of luck as you go forward.
I will miss NonY on liquid but I feel like this might be just what he needs to get back to the NonY we knew. He is still one of my favorite streams to watch and will continue to support him.
This is extremely sad, i basically shed a tear at this. Nony is to me what personifies Team Liquid. I really hope to see nony back on liquid one day and i will continue supporting him regardless of what he chooses to do. Best of luck Nony.
Since starting Starcraft in exchange of Warcraft 3 several years ago, NonY was a shining name in the american scene to look up to. I hope leaving reinvigorates your motivation and look forward to rooting for you in the future
I think the new dynamics of SC2 suited some players worse than others. And one of them was undoubtedly Tyler -- who was always more of a management type of player with perfect build order execution and just... perfect economy management in general.
When I look at the most succesful players in SC2, they all have the following in common:
They spend like 90% of their time staring at their army (through streamlining their play and effictivizing actions they buy themselves the time to do what actually has the most effect in SC2: moving and microing your army looking for a superior engagement).
Look at someone like stephano and you will be amazed at how much time he spends ordering his army around and... simply staring at his and his opponents army... setting up favorable position after position after position until his opponents finally lose their patience.
When you watch Tyler and others stream (including me to a degree), we spend way too much time on the management side of things. Especially Tyler when I've viewed his stream -- won't move around his army a whole lot. He relies on his build orders and his execution of said build orders (which tbh doesn't give much of an edge anymore in SC2).
Don't take this as bashing but rather as constructive criticism. Economy and Production management is... not effective to focus on in SC2. Relentless army movement, constant prodding and constant positioning and re-positioning is what will reward you.
You gain very little in ways of economy or army leads by merely being good at perfect management. Which is a shame for certain really talented players like ret and tyler (even ret has said he has a really hard time playing the BL/Infestor style, because his engagement skills are just inherently worse than some of the top zergs').
i really hope Tyler rediscovers his motivation to play and improve, would be a shame to have him gone forever. So best of luck to you in the future Tyler, looking forward to your stream!
This is pretty crazy. I thought you might take some time off from the team but never expected you to actually leave it. This is pretty insane. I hope things work out for you man. We are all cheering for you.
best of luck nony. hope that one day you do your crazy livestream of running 24 miles. eating 24 krispy kream donuts and playing starcraft or whatever the madness you had planned i cant really remember but that woulda been a riot to watch and cheer you on.
now ill just have to root for you to regain your intrinsic as you put it.

Cheer up! He isn't dead or anything like that. He not even quit SC2, he just left the team to gain a new perspective. I'm sure, someday he will rejoin with TL.

So disrespectful to a member of the community who has been around for a long time and has accomplished more in Brood War than you likely ever will in Starcraft 2. Yes, Nony wasn't a top player in SC2, but the 'so who cares' comment is really dumb because either you're completely ignorant to the history of the player, or you're just an asshole.
I'm sure this won't be a goodbye and we'll see you soon enough wrecking some more newbs in HotS, so good luck Tyler! I hope you can overcome your personal struggles and find yourself again!
I am sure you made this decision for the right cause. Sometimes getting out of a comfort zone brings you way beyound expectations. Many people have been lingering on your come back and it will definitively happen with SC2 BW -> hots~
I've never been the biggest NonY fan, but I've never been a hater either. Always recognized what he's given us as SC fans and I wish him, YOU, the best of luck. Hopefully we'll see you back flying that Liquid banner and owning scrubs.
Why wait literally less than 2 weeks before HotS release? Its been a long time coming IMO. But gl to Tyler on his real life adventures i hope he has a successful life. Don't think we will ever see him again playing in a professional environment.
You are my favorite foreign player, and I've learned so much from your VODs and replays. (in fact, my Protoss hotkeys are still based on yours!) I cheered so happily when you won TSL2, and though I didn't watch SC2, I still wished you the best. I hope you're able to find more joy in doing what it is you do, because you have helped bring so much enjoyment of the game to others!
I'm still cheering for you, NonY, and I know there are tons of people like me who are also rooting for you. Remember that we're all behind you and want you to succeed.
I hope that you can find the passion for StarCraft that you have been missing so that you can return to TL and tear the scene up!
I don't know if I am misinterpreting this but, I don't understand Tyler's decision to leave Liquid all together. Didn't he already decide to just bear the title of community manager? If so, I don't see much productiveness in leaving liquid completely.
I hope he still blogs. His blogs about depression really made me realize what a philosophy major does to someone, it makes them think hard. Not that non-philosophy majors can't think for themselves, but the level of introspection he wrote about seemed astonishingly deep considering he had/has depression.
Tyler is one of my favorite people in the SC2 scene in the way he formulates and expresses his opinions, and it just feels weird that he won't be on Liquid anymore. It's exciting to think about a back-in-shape NonY, and I hope he finds whatever he needs to make that happen. Good luck!
i saw this thread and feared he was quitting SC2. Then read it and was happy hes still playing. Hope it works out and we see Tyler owning it up in the SC2 scene.

this is a really interesting point i never gave much thought. Thx!
Good luck NonY. I'm sad to see you go. As a protoss player and sotg listener, you were the face of TL for me. I always rooted for you and will continue to even w/o TL. It's still a sad day though. GL HF
I sincerely wish you luck NonY, I hope that you find what you're looking for, and eventually return to liquid in the coming future after unlocking your enormous potential we all know you have from your older days
This is nothing short of a HUGE bummer Wishing Tyler all the best luck and I really hope to see him again soon. He may not have been my favorite player to watch, but I identified with his personality in a big way. I hope he knows what an influence he's had and I really hope he remains connected to the scene As best as he can. We'll miss you Tyler!
I was watching your stream lately and I was excited that you started streaming and appearing again. Now these sad news!. Thats as sad when TL announced Haypro and Jinro leaving. Nonetheless, I wish you the best in your future, may it be with loads of SC2 Hots success. I thank you, as well as any other player of TL, to enlighten my flame for E-Sports and especially Team Liquid.
Tyler, you have always been one of my favorite members of the community. I hope this new approach works out for you, and you can get back to top form. good luck
Tyler. You are the best. You have been my favorite player since I started following starcraft. Best of luck, and I hope to see you winning an MLG soon!!
Back to basics! Good luck, man. You're the only streamer that plays music I can tolerate. I'm glad you're still going to be playing games for all of us!
Best of luck to you Liquid`NonY I will never forget your BW years I hope you will once again raise to glory.. and make sure to be on state of the game more its always entertaining to have your insight on the game...
expected something like this to happen eventually. i dont feel the team enviroment is what was keeping him from improving. i feel (which he alludes to) is that he just did not enjoy sc2 as much as bw and thus couldnt give it all like he did before. i dont hate the guy and gl.
Personally. I think this was the right decision for him. And when he returns i wouldnt be surprised if he is signed to another team. Not saying he doesnt love liquid but im thinking he needs something new as well.
You were one of the only players i knew of BEFORE sc2 took off, and one of the players I respected the most as a whole. Wish you the best, in your life and even more than that (selflish, I know) your SC2 zen, fame, fortune, and glory!
Tyler, NonY. Best of luck in the future, I hope all is well and you stick around the scene a lil. You will be missed, thanks for all the great games and streaming.
GL nony I know you struggle with depression. I hope the best for you. And encourage you to keep going and to put in your all. Also if you decided to leave SC all together thats fine. Do whats best for you.

Best of luck 2 ya!
Hey, back off! He might have an indecipherable Polish surname but Nony bleeds Red, White and Blue.
Anyway, here's to a great player rebuilding himself. I enjoyed the blogs too. They reminded me there are others predisposed to attack life with diligence rather than fiery zeal.
Having that much pressure in any situation is such a damper on motivation. I personally used to suffer from depression and it takes a toll on everyone.
I'm a bit of a lurker but I have always liked you. I don't really play sc2 anymore but I hope to watch your stream/tournament play from time to time. Nony hwaiting !
Though I kind of wonder what is meant to be achieved by leaving Liquid. Does he mean to block out the distraction of expectations? Or maybe try to earn his way back onto the team?...
All the best Nony. Nony's stream is my favourite stream to watch and only one I watch all the VODs of. November and December was not a very productive few months at work. Now twitch is blocked at my work...
I've always loved Tyler, first time in Raleigh 2010 I saw him walking around the streets as I first got there and was star struck. I always hope to see him do well and I'm glad hes not done playing.
I will always root for you Tyler! I hope you find your spark and motivation again! Good luck and I hope to see you in Liquid colours again some day. NonY Hwaiting!

But he's still playing. Just leaving Liquid, not retiring. Unless you mean for him to be a coach/player, that might be decent for him now that I think about it.
Best of Luck to the my absolute favorite personality in the whole community! It was always a pleasure to listen to your thoughts and insights. I believe in you!
Edit: I would love if you could start doing those Vlogs again.
im glad he didnt retire, im still a huge fan. despite his issues, hes an awesome guy and capable of being the best of the best. good luck in moving forward nony!
GL HF Nony, I was lucky enough to be one of the older generation of TLers who lived through your epic courage league runs and TSL wins, I hope the very best for you in life.
Watching Tyler play sc2 beta a couple years ago was one of the things that made me really get involved in sc2, especially seeing him abuse phoenixes so well. I hope everything turns out for you, Tyler.
Thank you for being a continuing force in the community and on Team Liquid. We're all sad to see you leave the team, and hope you regain the wonder and passion you are seeking.
Your fans will still be following you, so good luck, have fun, and play well.
Sad to see Tyler leave, but it will be for the best so that we can see Tyler come back in HOTS, motivated and ready for some crazy strats! It's been sad not seeing much of him in the community up until recently when he started streaming again, Can't wait for more!
best of luck for him. in one way he will forever be a teamliquid player, at least in my Heard. So many things have changed in the last 2 years. I remember that interview in Dallas with the hole Rooster, a bunch of friends sitting in the Hotel-room making fun of each other. What a spirit! :D

Wow, Team Liquid sure feels a lot different without Nony in the roster. Not that he has made a big impact since the early stages of SC2, but he has been in the team for as long as I have known about it and was such a huge aspect of it during the end of BW.
Sad times, hope he can rekindle his spirit in the game and start owning again.
He should not be so hard on himself. Its not like any of the other former top foreigner bw players are doing really good in sc2 now. Competition in sc2 is just much bigger than it ever was in foreigner bw.
For some reason, Tyler leaving Liquid doesn't break my tiny eSports heart at all. Not like Jinro's leaving of Liquid. Thats because, even though I've never met him, you can't help but trust the guy-- He knows what he's doing.
No heartache, no hard feelings.
I expect you to be back in full force come HOTS, Nony.
i guess it's not too surprising, but pretty unfortunate as he was such a staple of their roster for so many years. anyway i wish him the best of luck trying to turn his mentality around and doing what needs to be done!
Its a tough choice to leave a family like liquid, but good luck to tyler, in future endeavours, and someday i hope to see you return to the team you belong in.
Sorry, not buying that it was a choice. We're all friends here, why the formalities and doublespeak? No results for years for the team = this is the result for the player. Hopefully, this will give him the incentive that he needs to get back in the game.
Nony. I love you. No but I do. No but you know, you're my favourite brood war foreigner.
I remember when Artosis put up the video of your first courage tournament. "Be like water" the goon pushes on medusa. If I'm ever gonna talk of a moment with nerd chills it's that moment. In sc2 koreans can be beaten but that was in another time and going so far in a courage was just sick.
And watchign you beat Idra in the TSL. The proxy gates the canceled cc, the winning of it all. That tournament was too good to be true, a perfect good bye to brood war as it then could be.
My most memorable Brood war Game I ever played involves those 3 gateways and a macro terran in a PCbang. It was last year, a game between Sweden and Korea. By playing your game, you affected a poor Swedish student and 3 years later that same strategy made me jump of my chair raising my hands, watching the korean pride run out of Jins angry face.
It's so sad someone this awesome leaving the team, very widely known on the BW scene and I can relate to him, because I have been diagnosed with a similar condition as we all know he has the Major Depressive Disorder... I'm going to follow him no matter if he quits TL, SC2 or joins another game another goals to pursue... Although we play different races, he is still awesome and I wish him the best of luck in finding that motivations and re-live up to his BW fame...
On March 05 2013 02:42 bonifaceviii wrote: Tyler should have figured out his motivation hangups a while ago. I fear it may be too late
it seems more like a formal way of cutting ties with liquid rather than a motivational move. let's face it, they can't keep paying him to play WoW instead.
Not that this came out of the blue considering some of the things Tyler has been saying about how he's feeling this is super weird. Tyler without Liquid? Liquid without Tyler? I can hardly believe it! Best of luck in the future!
I started watching BW and learned who all the players are, and about a half year later the TSL2 came around. Everybody thought Idra would take it pretty easy. Then there was Nony. I had never heard of him, but playing Toss I instantly fell in love with his game. TSL2 hooked me for good on BW and brought me to TL. And much of this I credit and thank Nony for. When he joined the team for sc2 it felt so right to me!!
I will keep cheering for you in whatever tourney you might enter in the future. I've been cheering for you since waaaay back. You were the true star of old SOTG. Your arguments are always memorable and your frankness inspiring.
Good luck in your future man. You're an inspiration!
Personally I'll remember you for your BW passion, you could do whatever you wanted once you set your mind to it. You beat everyone and we loved it! Gonna post this video because it always makes me smile, remember the good old days.
I was on the Team Liquid Pro website just now and was shocked to see that Nony was not on the roster there. I missed this post entirely when it was put onto TL.net. Best of luck to you Liquid'Tyler!
