there are no suicide champs in league, so to speak on the list, kog'maw has a suicide passive, but it's known. shaco fits the "town clown" persona *kinda* but he's more of an "evil clown." in dota, techies has a suicide attack and are well known for their mines, which teemo closely mimics. but teemo has no suicide abilities
i also think that it's unlikely that there is a village idiot role

there should be no confusion, as i have clarified >i don't have any good scum reads >i'm not as aggressive a person as i used to be >i don't like building cases on other games. later in the game based on reactions to night activities i will be of more help

but each of these either has a damage ability listed (morde, TF, malz, syndra) or has an extremely high likelihood of a damage ability (karma, talon)
i believe karma is his favorite champ though. hard to analyze her based on her abilities though, because Wave said that he's been planning this for months, and karma went through a remake somewhat recently My propensity for playing less popular champs in game has 0 reflection on what role I chose in this game. had to change my vote without an explanation on account of an emergency errand i had to run i don't believe bum is scum i also don't believe it's wise to lynch one of our most experienced and logical members on d1 without solid proof that he's mafia, which i don't think we have.
i took my vote off of JonnyLaw as my mistake in pick order understanding was pointed out and i no longer believe JonnyLaw to be lying about his pick order numbers. i think put my vote onto LSB in order to take some pressure off of bum.
i now have a good read on someone that i believe is scum. there is no chance this person will be lynched today so i will save my case for tomorrow.
i do ask that you take your votes off of bum though (even knowing what little water my request will hold)
also, we can drop the roffles telling me to die thing. i sincerely appreciate the sentiments, but i don't really give a damn; i know he meant it in a non-abrasive way (if that makes any sense). no need to further clutter up the thread with it. just roffles being roffles.

thresh's lantern in league is tossed toward a teammate (or several teammates) and applies a shield at it's landing location. after landing, a single teammate can click the lantern to be pulled to thresh's location ("to safety"). it's generally used to save someone from a gank, and sometimes used offensively to initiate a very long-range gank
in the context of a mafia game, i'd put dollars to donuts that it's able to pull someone out of being targetted for a night action, to safety. i would throw the lantern to someone that you feel will be a mafia target, and they will likely need to "click the lantern" to avoid the night action

i'm going to the gym. when i get back i'm going to take a shower and make breakfast. if my girlfriend is still asleep and nothing comes up by that point, i'll make my case for a lynch. if she's up, my case will have to wait until probably 3pm pst today. either way i'll do my best to have a cohesive lynch case by the end of today (dec 4th)
i feel strongly about my read. if my case is strong enough to convince you to lynch my suspect, and i turn out wrong, i'd like to be lynched the next day please. i just simply don't feel strongly enough about anyone other than my target to make any conclusive assessments yet, yet i feel like you guys are putting a lot of pressure on lurkers to perform more (and rightly so). i will probably have my confidence shaken and be even more worthless if i'm wrong on this one

i want to start my case with apology for being rather lurky this game. i've stated before but people are still commenting, so i will reiterate: i'm not as aggressive a person as i was a few years back, so my playstyle is not as aggressive as it was either. additionally, until now, i didn't feel strongly about anyone being scum. lastly, i do not like to use meta-game to build a case, especially on day 1 (unfortunately, you'll see that i will have to use the 'meta' reasoning a bit in this case).
i know relatively few of you and have played mafia with even fewer. i don't know your traits when you are mafia or town. however, some of you i know well or even very well. as bum_at_large pointed out, he and i have been friends for years. i felt very strongly that bum was doing his normal bum thing - being analytical, making logical posts, and being pro-town - and that he was town. one of the only other people that i can claim to know their personality is jacarlsoniv (henceforth referred to as soniv). i've played league with soniv, posted in the league sub-forum with soniv, and watched soniv's sparse streaming for a couple years now. as i stated earlier,

i feel like although he's not my bestest buddy, i have a good read on soniv's overall personality. he thinks highly of himself as a strong player and intellectual, and he's a fierce competitor. when he's "winning" he's cocky and carefree, but when he is challenged, i believe that soniv becomes extremely defensive and can get emotional. it's a knee-jerk reaction that i've seen in playing with him (exasperated sighs and outbursts when his lane gets camped in league, banning viewers [read: me ] when they comment on a mistake he makes on his stream, etc). i believe that soniv has taken a needlessly harsh and defensive stance on several comments made in his direction, many of which don't even point a ton of suspicion in his direction
i'll start by cementing that i believe soniv is just being soniv and not changing up his personality for this game, as that's what i'm basing my case on:

... but soniv's first post in the game was a quote from his favorite champ:

the second he's put under the tiniest bit of pressure, no matter how tangential it may be, he retracts into a defensive, ad hominem style.
so that's my setup. now i want to give 2 postulates that i've learned from playing forum mafia and epic mafia. 1) knowledge is power. mafia inherently has more knowledge than town, so doing actions that lead to town having more knowledge helps to level the playing field. yes, it can lead to revelations for the mafia as well, but remember, mafia has enough information to win the game from the start. mafia thrives in a suffocated, information-free town. 2) town needs to lynch mafia. town does not need to lynch lurkers, anti-town townies, pro-town townies, or blues. town needs to lynch mafia. this one is simple. you don't lynch someone because you don't like them, or because you have a weak lead on them. mafia members can subtly push for lynches on bad town and lurkers because it can feel like a "next best" option.
1) knowledge is power i agreed with a mass roleclaim plan. soniv did not:

It doesn't hurt to be prepared for the mindset that there's so much we don't know. But trying to pinpoint what it will be is a fairly non-value add activity. soniv is in the wrong and roffles is in the right. i've tried to illuminate what several hot-topic champs can do so that we can help non-league players. information is power. soniv, however, wants to nip speculative and free discussion at the bud. in fact, when i've given my expertise,

there is one role that he does want to find though: kassadin, a potentially scum-screwing role that will likely be able to dart out of trouble as well as screw up enemy actions:

this is because soniv, playing as SKT1'S Poohmandu (even getting one of his favorite hipster support champs, Janna!) wants to actively limit the amount of information that town has in order to both prevent town from getting too many power roles, and eliminate said power roles quickly.

it's subtle sheeping. town does not put their votes onto someone that they do not believe is mafia. it's a mafia tactic to subtly sheep votes onto people that others fine suspicious. however, soniv himself did not even put a vote on me, he voted for geript. he's sowing discord:

literally no one thinks that i'm mafia at this point. my worst detractors think i'm unmotivated town. you don't lynch unmotivated town. points to soniv for keeping his vote on geript instead of hopping on the bum bandwagon, it was a nice cover-up. though a bit unnecessary as the wagon was rolling fast enough that he didn't even need to jump on tbh

I don't understand what you are trying to imply. Are you just simply trying to discourage me from using my role should Bum not get lynched? Or are you trying to make a blanket statement saying I should never use my role? Or are you criticizing my choice of night action? I'm saying that it has said that people using mafia roles should be lynched. Yours is considered a mafia role, as far as we know. If we are 100% sure that there are 5 scum next to you and you want to spin through them, whatever, I don't care. But otherwise you will be aiding scum. And even if you confirm yourself as Tryndamere by spinning through townies, how in the hell does that help you look town yourself? Why would we keep you around?
again, it's subtle and it's not a direct statement. but soniv is pushing us toward lynching people based on their roles, not their alignment. town's job is to lynch mafia, not to lynch bad town that took a role that seems to aid mafia more than town. in fact, this post almost feels like a dare: "i dare you to spin [which would help mafia] to confirm your mafia-esque role so i can push a lynch on you, a townie." it's a big double whammy

thresh is one of, if not the, highest damage support in the game i would say that all of his moves are signature, with the lantern and box being the most so. the box does more damage than cassieopieaiea ult. flay does a ton of damage. even hook does non-negligible damage.

I checked, you can still use your ability if you clicked the lantern. you're claiming thresh, then? I am. And as much as I still disagree with you speculating on possible roles, I had to chuckle to myself when you guessed right for Thresh.
it confused me a bit. for one he's been riding me all game for providing league info and saying there's google for a reason and everyone here is a challenger level league player etc etc etc. so why would it make him chuckle when i connected a lantern to the only lantern in the game?
that's when i remembered that there are more, shitty lanterns in the game. they're so shitty though, that they didn't even register on my mind when you asked about a lantern
there are 3 lanterns in the game: thresh's lantern: allows you to be rushed to safety wriggle's lantern: provides sight in a location for a short time grez's spectral lantern: gives true vision in a location for an extremely short time
thresh's lantern is by far the most prominent. wriggles is built in probably < 1% of games on summoner's rift and is generally considered complete shit on every champ save a handful. grez's lantern is built even less than wriggles, on a seldom-played map and i had forgotten it was in the game. i cannot stress enough that the last two lanterns are so insignificant that they don't even come to mind when "lantern" and "league" go together in my mind.
not only that, but neither of those two lanterns directly tie to a champion. the only way one of those was in the game is if the inventor built them, but as we've already seen, he's focused on building dota-themed items.
so why would roffles, a guy who has played as much league as anyone else in this thread, suggest this:
On December 04 2013 13:35 Roffles wrote:Show nested quote +On December 04 2013 13:33 raynpelikoneet wrote: I got a lantern. Anyone experienced with LoL could you tell me what it's could possibly do? maybe, *maybe* you could argue that a grez port into this game would give info on allegiances with the "true sight" mechanic. but in 99% of cases, i would say that someone porting wriggle's or grez's lantern to mafia would make it so you can see a night action in a certain location. i will give credit to Wave and say for the mostpart he uses logic, and this would be logical.
and at this time, we know that viktor is inventing useless dota crap. so why would roffles come to this conclusion, and use one of his extremely sparse posts on it?
it just reeks of spreading misinformation. i'm not saying it's enough for me to vote for him (my vote will remain on soniv), but maybe it's enough for someone else to strengthen their case or for me to build one later
|
gonna stick my vote on soniv like i intended to last night don't want you guys thinking this is a random vote without reasoning. my mind hasn't been swayed by his defense or any subsequent posts. in fact his very defensive defense felt like it affirmed my suspicions. even if soniv picked thresh, doesn't mean he's not mafia. though thresh is more of a madlife support than a poohmandu support...
i have read the entire thread and i don't feel extremely strongly about most of the cases being made. part of me thinks that this game is just town attacking town while mafia AFKs, and another part of me thinks that all the mafia is trying so desperately to not be suspicious via AFKing that they're all just bussing each other lol. i know that it lies somewhere in between, but there is sure a ton of bitching going on. by the time we have soniv lynched i hope that i'll have some more strong suspicions i can dive into
chez, you sure are an interesting poster. i really like your enthusiasm and adherence to triviality. i am not in the right mindset to decipher a lot of what you've written at the moment, but i may get a chance on saturday. is there any chance you could send me some PMs with some hints? i'm not particularly clever.
odin, i think you need to relax
i would like to see more out of roffles. i think it's possible that when he suggested that i was shit-posting because i was pissed i didn't get a role, he was subtly referring to himself too. i'd like to reiterate what i said earlier about roffles being wayyyy too experienced a lol player to suggest that a lantern would be anything other than thresh's lantern. just curious as to why he'd try to mislead the thread in that sense.
in another note, when chez claimed to be all-knowing, my mind immediately jumped to twisted fate and POSSIBLY malzahar, and i was surprised that soniv suggested nidalee's traps as offering omniscience. just a tidbit i guess. but, also strange, doran in the game is not all-knowing. he's the opposite - a simpleton. his lore says that he was kicked in the head by his donkey which is why he can't make fancy items and just makes the starting items (d-blade, d-shield, d-ring). is that what you meant by things aren't how they appear, chez?
