There are literally no real problems with the banlist apart from one or two players. None at all. All the drama in this 24 pages has been created by about 2 players out of a base of 200 or something. It's insignificant and irrelevant. 99% of players are simply not aggrieved with ban decisions like this...
My only actual surprise is that GMarshal has let geript spew his poison for so long without simply getting rid of him. I don't think the problem is that not everyone is equal, it is my feeling that people who don't deserve preferential treatment continue to get it. So how do you determine the deservedness of said player you happen not to like? By having an equal standard of judgement. The veterans who follow the rules will not have anything change, while the veterans who continue to bend/break the rules will be punished. so nobody deserves preferential treatment then in your opinion?

Yes. However, since most people are good on this forum, veterans who deserve to be thought highly of and don't break the rules will probably continue to not break the rules. These people also tend to understand when they break the rules and accept their punishments, which makes me see no reason why we shouldn't standardize rules/punishment.
You can still spread the love to whoever you want outside of this thread. But there should be no preferential treatment here.

I dunno whats wrong with preferential treatment other than its 'not fair'.
|
I mean, its like the punishments are not being able to play an online game in 1 site for a period of time. THATS IT. There are many other sites where you can play mafia, you just cant play on TL. Is that a big punishment to warrant all this thinking about how to make it 'fair' for vets and newbies? Nope. Just dont break the rules and you are fine.

Bans/Warnings for Extractor Trick Mini Mafia:
I'd like to request either a 1-game Ban or a Warning for Coagulation. At MYLO, as a townie, he hammered himself.
The facts: Instant Majority Lynch. MYLO with 4 town, 2 scum. Coag is town. There are 2 uncontested blue claims, considered confirmed town. One confirmed town and 2 unconfirmed players vote for Coag. One more vote is required to hammer. Coag believes that alakaslam is the final scum, and will hammer him. He says Kush and Slam are scum, hammers himself, then after the day ends (since you're not allowed to talk after the hammer) says "I hammer myself you lynch kush and slam.
The speculation: Coag played against his wincon and voted for himself, an action that could only cause town to lose and have no other outcome, and he knew this was the case. After the fact, he claimed he didn't know it was MYLO (despite knowing there were 2 scum and that it was 6 players, 4 for a majority). To an extent, I believe him. I don't think coag would intentionally ruin a game by hammering himself as a townie at MYLO. If he didn't hammer himself and nobody unvoted him, it was only a matter of time before Alakaslam came back from work and hammered him. In a way, the people ACTUALLY responsible for his lynch are MrCC and Hopeless who both voted him and put him in the range that scum could quickhammer him.
That being said, all the explanations he gave and instructions to town in the event of his death were given AFTER he hammered himself, when the thread was closed. He could have chosen to continue playing, by for example appealing to MrCC and Hopeless1 that the day was only about an hour old or something. There were many plays that would not result in him instantly losing. His reasons didn't include "we might have a doctor so we could have another lynch" but actually that he didn't really know it was MYLO, despite knowing there were 2 scum and also knowing that it was 6 players, 4 to lynch.
I like coag, and he's a cool guy, but townies hammering themselves at MYLO in IML is something that needs to be punished. I'm interested in hearing opinions about whether this should be a warning or a ban. The outcome of the game would have PROBABLY been the same if he hadn't hammered himself (MrCC and Hopeless wouldn't unvote him, and the final scum would just show up and hammer) but it's still a pretty blatant play against wincon.
If he really thought it wasn't MYLO he doesn't deserve a punishment.

Why was that game so unbelievably short? Also is there a reason why it being MYLO matters specifically? I don't think there should be any reason it's ok for town to hammer themselves really...

I disagree, he should be aware of what the gamestate is especially in an instant majority game.
|
I didnt know it would end the game. I was aware the scum suspects were me / kush / slam and I knew I was getting lynched and thought I would expedite the situation and give my reads for town to base the next lynch off of instead of wasting time. sorry I made a mistake and If u need me to be banned for it I understand.

The thing about town hammering themselves, is that at a non-LYLO situation there MIGHT be a reason for it. For example, if you KNOW you can't argue your way out, you've said what you needed to say, and the only way for discussion to move on is if you're dead. I can see it happen. Even if it's not what's best for town, if you THINK it's what's best for town, that's what matters-- you're playing to your wincon to the best of your abilities, including your ability to judge what the right move is. Just like a cop claiming on D2 for a bad reason isn't playing against his wincon, a self-hammer at the right time is fine.
At MYLO, though, a self-hammer can ONLY instantly end the game in a loss for town unless you REALLY think town vigi and doctor or something are gonna save you. This can't be acceptable.

Sometimes being confirmed town via flipping is more important that being alive. It shouldn't really be encouraged but it isn't inexcuseable. Plus Coag had the scumteam nailed and ostensibly believed that this was how he could prove himself right.

I can see that I suppose. But yeah the game being less than 50 pages is weird to me---I'm pretty sure all of the IM minis I've played were a fair amount longer.

The game had silent nights. Town hammered 7 hours into D1, 55 hours into D2, 2 hours into D3. This puts us at a total of 64 hours of gameplay, or about the length of a single Day + half a night in a normal 48/24 style game-- this is why the thread was short.
The point to get at here is whether or not coag really didn't know it was MYLO, or whether or not he had an OBLIGATION to know it was MYLO (I believe he did have an obligation to know it was MYLO, which is why I brought this to the ban list thread). If people disagree with me on that, then that's fine.

I rather just take a ban then have people arguing about it.

I'm just wondering if maybe it should only be a warning. It basically boils down to "are people obligated to know if it's MYLO" or maybe "is it playing against your wincon to not know it's MYLO in a normal mini, especially if it's IML". If people believe there's no obligation to know it's MYLO, then you definitely do NOT deserve any ban list action. I think there is such an obligation, but I don't want to be "that guy".
In any case yeah let's make it a formal request for a 1 game ban.

Yeah there are definitely times when self-hammer is a legitimate tactic (though ideally not one aimed at lynching a fellow townie).

Personally, if you don't know it's MYLO then you're not paying due attention to the game, and basically you're actively playing against wincon - not by self-hammering in MYLO, but being so completely unaware of the game you're playing you don't know the really basic facts about the game-state.
Ignorance is rarely a defence against anything.
Don't play mafia if you're not willing to try hard enough to understand when it is and isn't MYLO in an IML mini...
