Day 1

Two years and over a dozen seasons have passed since the last cheesing incident. With Mr. Chae hospitalized, several players dead, and both the internet and the police in an uproar, it was almost inevitable what happened next. The Global Starcraft II League was summarily dissolved, and in the following months, the entire Starcraft II pro scene fell apart. Sure, the game was still played at a semiprofessional level, but never again with the kind of sponsorships and prize pools necessary to hold things together. Many devoted fans and players still hold and watch tournaments together, but the vast majority have moved on-- and so has GOM. In April 2011, GomTV announced the first season of the GSL-- GomTV Special League-- a highly produced, well-funded League of Legends tournament. Soon, the GSL became the premiere LoL tourney, a flagship for eSports everywhere.

It is now October 2012. For nearly two years, LoL has dominated eSports. HoN is long-dead and DotA2 stillborn. Blizzard cancelled development for HotS as battle.net logins for Sc2 plummeted and polling indicated there was no interest outside of a few hardcore fans. Warcraft 4 is rumored to be coming "soon" but as usual there are no promises. With their latest Diablo III DLC the company remains stable.

The GSL Code S cast is beginning for the final series of 2012 Season 4, live from SeouL...

"So, Nick, it sure has been a great season, eh?" Sean 'Day[9]' Plott nods to his co-caster as the cameras go live. "Maybe the best one ever."

"I'd definitely say so," agrees Nick 'breakycpk' Caras, "and with two foreign teams in the finals, this is a historic occasion anyways. TPA's win over CLG.eu in the semis really showed that the new foreign style has exceeded anything we've seen before."

The two eSports casters begin their descriptions of the game that destroyed their loves. Unbeknownst to players, casters, and the massive audience both in-person and online, however, this was no ordinary Code S finals. Brewing in the darkness are the machinations of the radical Sons of the eSports Revolution, who will stop at nothing to see Sc2 returned to its rightful place as the premier eSport worldwide.

All plots come to their head now, as the final day of the season begins. Who will be victorious?

Incognito as Mr. Chae has been forced out!
Foolishness as teamliquid.net's Sc2 coverage has been eroded!
League of Legends owns the field!

Welcome to Day 1. This Day ends instantly when a majority is reached to lynch.

When you stare into the iCCup, the iCCup stares back.

Nonsense! I'mma gonna lynch me some lurkers bitchessss!

In all seriousness, we should sort out some sort of policy for the instant-lynch mechanic. I feel that the inactivity, combined with the town's reluctance to throw around votes led to town's loss in GSL II. So I'd like to propose a couple of things I've been mulling since before the game started...

1) Vote vote vote vote! There's no point in withholding votes, and don't be scared about it.

2) While we should be eager to throw around vote, hammering is a different story. If someone doesn't have a good reason for hammering someone on the vote, I'll policy lynch them.

3) If you vote someone, be kind enough to update the vote count on the player - makes it much easier to keep track of things and makes it easier on the hosts.

Being able to vote more freely will allow us to pressure more effectively, and I propose the above as policy for this game (or atleast for D1).

Hapa what do you mean by hammering? Do you mean pushing a lynch on someone?

The "hammer" is the clinching vote in insta-lynch.

i.e. someone has 4 votes on him D1 - whoever puts in vote #5 is the hammer (and better have some pretty damn good rationale for it).

Ok thanks for the clarification. Meh. I dislike policy lynches. But I agree. If you are townie don't hammer someone when you are not certain they are scum or the certainty you hold is not rational.

The nice thing about policy is we can choose how strictly to enforce it or not. I just would like to set the stage for some discussion, and create an environment where people aren't scared to seriously pursue scumreads.

Progamer Darthpunk, what about you? Sounds like you're pretty good at scum, and a lot of games as mafia means you're probably pretty good at it, better to get rid of you quickly then. :D

@ Drazak

I hope you'll be more active this game - you were hesitant to post as town in your newbie games, and it'll be really difficult to read you if you do the same here. Will you be free enough to post frequently in this game? I'll be holding you to a higher standard.

Of course Hapa, plenty of free time as far as I know, should be posting a bunch. Also a little less afraid to post for various reasons.

To elaborate. Don't be scared TO hammer someone if you DO have a strong case and read on them.

So what is the point of even discussing it if we may or may not enforce it at all and it comes down to the circumstances? I know that policy is the best way to start discussion. But honestly it is very easy for scum to hide in the midst of policy talk.
I have never seen a policy lynch despite it being discussed at length at the start of every game.

Yeah, I don't think policy lynches are a great idea for forum mafia. Hard to keep to a policy, hard to agree to one, and generally useless. That guy lurking probably isn't mafia, and might just be scared to post because he has a role, or because he doesn't, or something.
