Are you sure you're not just making stuff up? I've already told you they carry multiple copies of the flame around every olympics so they can relight the torch when it goes out from the same 'flame'.
The flame was only introduced in 1928 and if you want to go all the way back to ancient greece multiple fires were used at the temples!
You talking bout accidents which can happen obviously. Never officially thje flame were split though.
also i bet in rehersals many have said the oaths wrong , played the olympic theme wrongly etcetc but they doing it properly in the end
Pls find me an incident whereas officially more than a single torch was ligthen up before you accused me of trolling .
also there were many temples in ancient Greece , sure but only one particulary temple in ancient olympia where the flame was taken upon the same one it is today.
About symbolisms ... you had 2 hours of preshow to use whatever symbolism you liked and you blew it...
in the end they could simply have 204 flames send in the world than cover 70 something thousand kms with one and save us the trouble but they dont.

The history of music skit they did was amazing. Really shows how music has gone from singing and bands to dance/party/craziness in our modern era.

"During the Olympic Games, which honored Zeus, additional fires were lit at his temple and that of his wife, Hera. The modern Olympic flame is ignited at the site where the temple of Hera used to stand."

Vancouver 2010. Four torchbearers lit the Olympic torch with 4 separate torches. (Technically 3...technical malfunctions left one out)

On its own I enjoy most if not all of the music and many of the films they used for that skit, but as a whole I couldn't stand to sit there and watch the thing. Maybe it was different for other audiences but the text love affair thing had me wanting to shoot myself, and everything being cut together in 15-30 second clips of each song/movie clip made it really annoying to sit through.
I understand the wanting to celebrate the English heritage and culture, which is why I actually enjoyed the industrial revolution/forging of the olympic rings skit, but it just went south from there for me.
To each his own though.

Really liked the opening ceremony. The industrial revolution part was definitely the highlight. Uniquely British ceremony!
Now let the games begin!

I think London opening was better than Beijing opening. Beijing was too rigid, it was the kind of thing where one mistake would just screw the entire effect up. London was more natural, more surreal in a way.
I think Putin's going to get into this dick measuring contest with the Queen at Sochi in two years. I wouldn't be surprised to see him jump off a helicopter on skis or leap out of water or something. He seems like the kind of guy who enjoys that a lot.

Also, why aren't the Koreas marching together this year and Taiwan still referred to as Chinese Taipei? I thought they'd just change that for 2008, I didn't realize they'd have it in London as well...
