Sports that have pinnacles outside of the games though, like football, rugby, basically the traditional ball sports, I can't get into at all, because the players are just second string trash as a gold medal is nothing to a league title or world cup etc I agree. Winning gold in track and field or swimming is a really big deal and becomes the legacy of those who win. Tennis, too, doesn't really mean anything. I'm not sure how seriously other countries take basketball but the U.S. in general doesn't take it all that seriously.

Mosop out due to tendon injury. Emmanuel Mutai named to take his place with Stanley Biwot as alternate. Totally ignored the current WR (2:03:38) holder Patrick Makau, as well as arguably the best runner right now Geoffrey Mutai with the stated reason being: "We asked their agents to give us a report why they dropped out of the London and Boston races and we are yet to receive any from Makau or Mutai. " Wierd but okay, except.....Makau's agent brought forward his proof that he DID in fact inform AK of the situation around Makau, his reason for DNF in London Marathon (basically Kenyan Marathon Trials...sorta), and the status of his training. Whoops.

May I request the mods to change the title of this thread to "2012 Olympics Event Discussion Thread". Since there are specialized threads already, I would like to make this thread as a dedicated one for issues outside the events themselves, things like security, food, services, other attraction, comments, and complaints during the Olympics. I am a volunteer for the Olympics so I'd like to share the experience as well to the teamliquid community.

I'm looking forward to track and field, swimming, gymnastics, basketball, and tennis. T&F/swimming, as always, are super interesting, as is gymnastics a bit too. For basketball I want to see USA cruise ![]() For tennis, it doesn't mean much to the nation I suppose (except for Switzerland since they love Roger lol), but it means a lot to the player. Roger Federer especially really wants that gold medal, and it does a lot for the legacy for tennis players, especially for players like Nadal and Agassi and Graf who needed it for golden career slam.

Sadly she's not really even the best junior (and she's about to pass into senior events), let alone being on an Olympic level.
