All the talk about the track being fast both here and for the Athletics makes me interested in how much improvements on speed have been influenced by better surfaces over the years. Obviously training improvements make up the bulk of it but I'm sure surfaces have got steadily quicker over time too?

yer! wasn't far off gold so would have surpassed the canadian girl had she finished the landing. =[ ah well. china "should" still win all the badminton, diving and table tennis gold XD hehe, women's team fencing tonight too. go china!

haha why are you cheering for China? :D yayay

Most people cheer either for their home country or by default against China ._.

I do hope they can win the most golds by the end, but it will be close, if not a US win.

Have you seen how Australia have been going? The only thing more annoying than the amount of silvers we've gotten is having to hear the commentators trying to put a positive spin on it all. Sure, it's fine to hear them telling us that the Aussie only has a dig a little deeper (and s/he's definitely got the ability!) for the first couple of times, but when you're watch the men's 4s in rowing behind by a mile and the commentators saying that all they need is a little surge and we can snag the gold... it gets tiring.

Dunno if you have Foxtel or not, but the swimming commentator on it is the absolute worst. "The Australian is up in FRONT!!!" and he/she turns in 5th or 6th place.

Thank god I don't have Foxtel, I would have fully broken down by now.

and in other news, Aussies leading from the start in the cycling, loses to the yanks in the heat. Classic.

If its any consolation. The Russians and Japanese are doing a pretty good job of silver and bronze finishes. Prob better than you guys, or worse I guess depending on how you look at it.

Basically, at the end of these games, I want Australia to be AT LEAST higher in the medal tally than Kazakstan. I'm not hoping for much, just that.

Kazakstan is going to get some more golds. gonna be hard, wrestling is coming.

Well, There's still cycling, so hopefully we can get at least one gold from that, and Hockey's looking good. and then there's hurdles, and I think we've a chance for long jump. All in all, it's not a hopeless wish.

Hockey should be in the bag easy, I'd be very surprised (and upset) if they didnt win that.

Fast veledrome apparently. Not sure what makes it so much better than everywhere else though, smoother surface?

They have a double seal so the air pressure isnt affected, plus they heat it up like a microwave so its less dense.

I don't think you understand sir. I seen countless replays of the women's 4x100 medley. Massive letters pasted over the T.V congratulating them on their win. EVERY DAY. We need one more gold to break the monotony. ONE more.

Put it this way, if we lose to the new zealanders, you wouldn't want to know any Kiwis. We won't hear the end of it.

Hahaha same, I don't get why we are so good at cycling :s

Someone started an initiative to improve britain's cyclism. That guy created the track training center in Manchester also the professional team Sky. That's the main reason they are above the rest of the world. That and the fact that they are not afraid a new technologies. Those are the main reasons.

As for the WR, well maybe there is a little magic too as it's the norm and not the exception in Cyclism.

I don't think we're locks to win the men's hockey, we are missing one or two really talented players due to injury, but we did roflstomp our first two opponents.

Put it this way, if we lose to the new zealanders, you wouldn't want to know any Kiwis. We won't hear the end of it.

They just pick on us because they're jealous of our great Aussie icons, such as Pharlap, pavlova and Russel Crowe.

Magnusson was in the bag too.

No chance at gold in hockey! Those are both ours! We need them.

I don't think you understand sir. I seen countless replays of the women's 4x100 medley. Massive letters pasted over the T.V congratulating them on their win. EVERY DAY. We need one more gold to break the monotony. ONE more.

You stole the women's relay from us already (sure thing, they said). It is only fair to let us take this one

Fair? We're set to have our worst result in an Olympics in almost 40 years, fair has gone out the window!

Well the Manchester Velodrome was built for the commonwealth games. I think Sky investing hugely in GB cycling and Dave Brailsford being the best coach in the world are the main reasons. Obviously you need talented riders too

Edit: McLaren used to make our bikes too until they made rules that they had to be available for everyone lol.

She can't serve if there's the slightest bit of wind.

It's the WTA though so you can pretty much better on terrible play at any point in a tournament nowadays.
