Lochte swam a 47.7, grevers swam a 47.6 in the prelims but had just swam in the prelims for the 100 back so he might not have been the best choice to make anyways. oh well, that's sports for you Yannick Agnel : 46.66 This guy can win 100m and 200m. It would be so incredible. On July 30 2012 05:28 LaNague wrote: french relay does this on a regular basis at important events, thats why i love to watch them in those so much. Yup. We were 2nd in 2008 and should have won because we were so ahead at one point... PS : AUX ARMES CITOYENS !

Heats : Jimmy Feigen (48.49) Matt Grevers (47.59) Ricky Berens (48.52) Jason Lezak (48.04) Finals : Nathan Adrian (47.89) Michael Phelps (47.15) Cullen Jones (47.60) Ryan Lochte (47.74) Only Grevers swam faster but he had a finals moments before. So it was the US best 4 and they lost. Edit : And Yannick Agnel beat the world record of Cielo too (not valid because it's not individual) and is the second best time in the Olympics behind Jezak with suit, the man who grabbed the title for USA in Beijing.

It's not because it's not invidual. It's not valid because the reaction time is shorter, since you can see your partner coming. If the 1st swimmer in the relay beats the world record, it's valid. That's why Magnussen opened the relay for Australia. That makes me even more surprised at his time, because he went for the record and swam pretty bad (for his standards) edit: but damn Agnel was fantastic. That was just as good as Lezak in 2008, as he also swam under 47'00. edit2: I just checked on google and Lezak's time was 46'06 at that relay, that's just mind blowing. It's the fastest 100m split of all time, even if you add some tenths of a second for the reaction time.

Anyway for the womens, meh. Just can't get into it like last Olympics. Was fun rooting for Shawn/Nastia. Not getting the same excitement this time around.

So there is a chance that the 3rd best gymnast in the qualifications can't even compete in the Olympic all around that has 24 competitors in it just because the top 2 people might be on her same team. Why would they do such a rule? Wont't nations like China, Russia, the US, Romania, etc all at least have 1 or 2 gymnasts not be allowed to go to the all around even though they could be better than half the people in the final and more importantly could easily be contenders for gold? at least they have a chance to qualify. Sports like Judo only allow one person per country, Japan has world #1 and #2 in a few categories but cant bring both of them into the competition.

The problem is the line has to be drawn somewhere. It's supposed to be an international competition. We can't have the marathon event with 30 guys from Kenya or whatever, lol. I think 3 is a better line to draw than 2, though. WCG Starcraft used to allow 3 Koreans, that seemed like a good amount to preserve diversity but still allow a dominant country to send more deserving athletes.

It's so lame that a gymnast's career is so short that they're basically training their entire lives for this 1 event and if they have a bad day their dream is over. I thought it was cruel for them not to let her leave and force her in front of the cameras for an interview. Just let the girl leave. She had her bags packed and was ready to gtfo.

I still think the rule is fair, although I don't understand why they don't let 3 athletes from each nation participate in the finals like usual.
